There is so much to see and do in this area of Scotland, but we are not stopping as we have a date with a steamboat on Loch Katrine, we could have visited Rob Roys grave or gone for a wander around The Queen Elizabeth Forest Park. The Trossachs National Park is an iconic place with outstanding landscapes, habitats and communities and we can certainly recommend a visit to the area.
Heading south on the A85 from Crainlarich we enter Red Squirrel and Deer country but non to be seen!

The A85 is a major road on the west side of Scotland running from Oban all the way to Perth and beyond, but we are not going that far on this trip as we are eventually leave it and join the A84, (in the next video). So don’t forget to come back for our next instalment as we head towards Loch Katrine.

Lake Vyrnwy was built between 1881-1888, it is a reservoir in Wales which supplies Liverpool with fresh water, besides the reservoir the area is a nature reserve and is jointly managed by RSPB and Hafryn Dyfrdwy, it’s a popular destination for for ornithologists, cyclists and hikers. The river Vyrnwy flows out of the reservoir into Shropshire where it joins the river Severn at the village of Me...

Hellfire Pass is a single track road up Hirnant and Bwlch-y-Groes, it’s the second highest paved road in Wales and can be quite busy as it’s a popular drive between Bala and Dina’s Mawaddy, we are on the first part of the road that takes us to Lake Vyrnwy. Where to go on a dull cloudy day after eating lunch in Bala, decisions, decisions! Oh well let’s head over the mountains to Lake Vyrnwy, this will be in 2 parts, in this first part we drive through Bala and turn onto the B4391, after about a mile we turn right onto an unnamed road that will take us us on a country drive on a busy single track road following the river Hirnant. Having not found anywhere to eat on our Welsh trip since leaving home as we had been driving down country lanes, our tums we’re saying feed me 🤣 and as we were close to Bala I knew our favourite Caffi in the area would be open, even if it was Easter Sunday. Even Bala was quiet as we drive through the town, the weather may have put people off and the fact all shops would be shut on this day.

We have had an interesting journey so far on our trip in Wales, (please see the previous videos) narrow lanes huge potholes and no through roads but now we are in Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochant we are finally heading back to civilisation, following on to the village of Pen-Y-Bont-Fawr where we hit the main road to Bala, even though it’s only the B4391, but more like an A road, that takes us up into the...
These lanes seem to go on for miles and yet we are not far from major towns in the area.

This trip takes us to Glyn Ceiriog, the village name translates to Ceiriog Valley, the village is technically known as Llansantffraid Glyn Ceiriog which means church of St Ffraid. I moved here from Manchester in 1979 with my husband and 3 young children.We have 9 children now, 25 grandchildren(at the last count) counting) 5 great grandchildren.We love this little market town. ❤

The reason why there’s dogs on the beach here is that people are allowed to walk their dog across this part of the beach to the other side of the beach where dogs are allowed so people generally they keep their dog on the lead until they get to the other side and can then let them off for a run and yes, most responsible dog owners do clean up after themselves

Morning Elizabeth, those Derbyshire villages are quintessentially British and we love driving around that particular county, it's very different from Wales, which is one of our favourite places, but we like to add a variety of places to our videos 😊
Penychain is where Butlins was. It’s now Hafan Y Mor, which translates to haven by the sea. I worked there in 1996, I have lovely memories. The last time I went when it was still Butlins was 1998 with my now husband. One of the reasons it was closed was because the council wouldn’t allow them to put up the skyline tents they have at the remaining 3 sites. Also, there was so much trouble from certain pockets of society that it was very costly to rectify the buildings after fights etc. It’s a shame as it was a great site. The last time we were at Hafan Y Mor was 2020. There are still some remaining buildings from the Butlins days. The last batch of staff accommodation was still there, but looking very sorry for itself. The building I worked in still survives, it’s now the owners bar and restaurant/ HMS Glendower pub. There were some of the basic chalets left, and some of the middle grade ones, which we stayed in. There are some other buildings that were Butlins ones that have been re-purposed, like the grocery shops.
Thanks for the info, we wondered what had happened to it, I never went there but Ness went there on holiday twice many years ago, it’s a shame when these places close.
