    I have a big ol touring Harley do you think this lift could handle the weight of that?

  • @calmac09
    @calmac09 Год назад

    After watching the video a few times it looks like there is some flex in the platform when you begin to lift it with weight. How solid is the platform after its been lifted? Is it wobbly? Otherwise this is really cool!!

    • @DIYMotoFix
      @DIYMotoFix Год назад

      Wood as a material naturally has some flex to it. The lift table when raised is sturdy and we provide a lockout option (in the customization section of our plans) to further increase rigidity.

    If I were to build this, I would use 2x12 Southern Yellow Pine or Douglass Fir in the longest length available to me for older growth strength, then rip them down to proper 2x size just before construction time. Though, white pine wood may be used in this application, it would not be as strong as SYP or DF. Whether it be white wood, SYP or DF, be sure to "sticker and stack" your wood properly once you're home. Now that it's properly stacked, let it acclimate for at least four days in the place you'll be using the lift. It would be even better if the wood could acclimate for two weeks(Don't skip the acclimation part though). Don't cut the wood down to parts until you're ready to build. During the build, I would glue and screw at every opportunity. I would sand the glue side of the wood just enough to remove sap residue(150 grit), then glue and screw every mating surface with construction adhesive (liquid nails). Now, you're gonna want to seal the wood when you're all done with the build, so, I would go with about three layers of Zinsser Bulls Eye shellac seal coat. It dries fast and you can apply 3 layers in no time. If the wood ever gets scuffed, just sand a little, brush on some shellac and you're done, easy peasy. If you don't want to bother with shellac or want some color, "indoor" oil based paint is your next best wood protectant. If you use exterior, you'll be smelling base additives for weeks and months. With anything that is made of wood and has mechanical motion, I'd periodically snug up all the nuts and bolts. With dimensional construction wood, drying and shrinkage will take place for up to a year per inch of thickness. Good luck with this build. It looks to be quite fun and very useful.

    Shimming my 04 crf450r as we speak, this video helped me confirm my proper tolerances. My poor bike is way out of spec, hoping it's not needing valves but previous owners weren't kind to it. I know these early year CRFs are known for valve issues and a fresh set of stainless valves fix that issue, being my 450 is bone stock, I know it's just a matter of time. Fingers crossed haha
