When you went through rivenhall past the church next to it my old primary school. Head out of rivenhall there will be a right hand bend with a big oak tree and an entrance to rivenhall place go past that you will go up hill then a left hand bend turn right there next to park gate farm which I think is more derelict now follow that road for just about a mile then take next left that will take you to it if you see porters farm house you’ve gone to far. Park gate farm is where I grew up so I know it quite well.

At least you've had a go bro,but it's clear you've no skill or finesse in using glue or patch fitting ... Cut brush bristles in half 1st or use a 20mm wide glue spreader, use a wallpaper seam roller to press patch onto jacket, it'll be a more neater/flatter job. Put that marker pen down ffs, you're making a real hash of it, it looked ok before you ruined it.

Blimey. Thank you both for being so honest. This is not easy stuff. The DH and myself are knackered after one day out on the bike these days, so you have my full admiration. Back in the day, when I was in my 20s and travelling abroad on bikes and trains and foot and bus, nothing seemed to get to me. Not even sleeping rough. But I’m not sure I could do it now. Buy an apartment and put it in the hands of a management company. Yes they take fees (😢) but a good company checks references and gets insurance. This ties up your capital and provides an income (depending on your budget).

Have you considered Premier Inns around the UK and some of Europe? They have a website and while they’re clinical, they’re clean and cheaper than B&Bs and can be a base for a few days instead of trying to find somewhere to sleep en route all of the time.

Once the weather gets warmer then you can go back to living in the tent while traveling. So a few ideas for reducing living costs through the winter: 1) Find a farmer who wants to rent out a barn. Put the tent in there and live in the tent until spring. It will be warmer and dryer than a tent in a field. 2) Try calling campsites with glamping pods that are closed over winter. See if they will rent you a pod for a big discount for a couple of months. It's free money to them for relatively little effort. You could even try block booking somewhere like a Travelodge and see if they will offer a good discount for a couple of months solid booking. 3) Buy a campervan and sell it in spring. Or even just an old transit van and live in the back of that before selling it in spring. Look up vanlife. 4) Put the bikes in storage and live in a cheap B&B in a cheaper hot country for a couple of months over winter. If you block book a B&B for a couple of months you may be able to haggle a good deal. 5) Ferry the bikes to a warmer country such as the south of France, Spain or even the Canaries. Live on campsites there over winter. You can stay in the EU for 90 days out of every 120 days. 6) Use a house sitting service where you stay in someone's house while they are away for a few weeks or months. I think there are some websites dedicated to matching people for this.

Instead of investing in another house, what about getting a van/camper and putting a two bike trailer on the back. A pay out to start with but you can still adventure and have somewhere warm and dry to sleep every night. It will soon start to pay for itself, true you need to fund camping sites and fuel but its cheaper in the long run than B&B`s etc. Just a thought. What ever you decide, keep safe and HAPPY CHRISTMAS...

Great episode guys it brought back some good memories. We stopped on sango sands campsite a few years ago , cost £8 with sea veiw this was just as the NC500 was taking off. Went in the pub on-site paid £2.50 for a 12 year old single malt too, don’t think it would be that cheap now. We also brought one of those chocolate motorcycles from that shop too. Did you manage to visit Smoo cave just down the road? Looking forward to the next episode.
