Hey sister, I haven't seen this comment yet but one thing that can help bring life to drums is working on the dynamics (volume of each hit)- In some cases, making some hits quieter than others can be used to emphasize the melody or bassline. Also, something that helps me is to study the greats of drumming- Steve Gadd , Brian Blade, Jonathan Moffett, Larnell Lewis, Dave Weckl and a lot more. Listening to world music is also great!

Great music, In FL Studio you can highlight the key scales on the piano roll. You would spend lesser time finding the melody. For strumming chords just select the midi and hold alt+s. I hope this will help.
