    Intelligent episode. I love the emphasis on rural living and sustainability. Lin Xi is very lovely and explains the value of rural life very well. She and her uncle speak excellent English. If the dead are cremated, the ashes shouldn’t take much room in the land, it’s the tombstones that families want to build to honor them that take up room, is that the issue?

    • @anushavenkatachalam2323
      @anushavenkatachalam2323 4 месяца назад

      Yes, that's right. In Chinese culture, the size of the tombstone reflects how much that person was loved/cared for. The more decorative, the better. Old people save money for years prior to their death, so they could have a grand burial. Since the govt. banned it, people go to the electric crematorium. But they still build these tombs with the ashes. So, the issue is not burial vs. cremation. It's more about the tombs.

    • @Deeeepsea-j5m
      @Deeeepsea-j5m 4 месяца назад

      @@anushavenkatachalam2323 Thank you for the explanation! Yes tombs have their significance and value. Maybe they can be built in the courtyard of their own home and land. Is this possible?

    • @anushavenkatachalam2323
      @anushavenkatachalam2323 4 месяца назад

      It probably differs in each Province, but usually the Chinese don't bury or build graves right next to their homes. This is mostly done for pet animals. The graves are built at a distance, either on a their farmland or other areas in the village. It also common to see group burials, where a family is buried next to each other. So, building graves in the courtyard is not practical. Also, in China there is no private ownership of land. All land belongs to the govt. or rural collectives. So, there is no clear distinction between private and public, as is the case in other countries.
