Hank Mobley N.Y.C 1967 and Holland 1968
In September 1967 Dutch jazz pianist Rein de Graaff, on his first visit to N.Y.C, met Hank Mobley, Herbie Lewis and Walter Davis at the "East Village Inn" on Avenue A. Six months later Hank Mobley came to Europe and did a radio and TV show in Holland.

Wow! It's great to see films of Hank! Thank you.
Thanks for posting. Bought the Mosaic Records box set of Hank's 1960's recordings and it is outstanding.
Amazing, just listened to Houston Person playing live at Emmet's Place in New York to celebrate his 90th birthday.
Always loved Mobley but Pim Jacobs has been a great find on youtube. The orchestration is a great adjunct to his playing. Jazz has suddenly become alive and available in depth on youtube.
Thank you for this! Mobley💙
Live recordings from the 60s? These sound fantastic! Hank's one of my faves.
I dig the alto sound, looks like a Selmer long bow with a Meyer?
Good stuff. Thanks for this performance much appreciated
Great! Love it!
Smoking
High as a kite, love Babs
... ¡¡¡ GRACIAS INFINITAS !!! ...

There must be something in the water in those Scandahovian countries, cos so many of these guys can play, what is essentially a black American art form, so believably well. I'm thinking of Ferdinand Povel fer instance, most of the other guys, not only can't I pronounce their names, I can't spell them either, but they all sound so great.. Notwithstanding Charles McPherson's playing sounds so free here, he must be real happy with the rhythm section.. Great set.. Thx fer sharin'
the netherlands are not in scandinavia :)
@@FritzeStromberg My apologies I stand corrected.. Netherlands or not it seems to me, from listening to musicians from the Netherlands or Scandinavia, especially those guys born in the 40's and the 50's, Ferdinand Povel, immediately comes to mind and one of my all time fav tenor players, sound hipper to me than their peers from the rest of Europe and I am a musician born in the 40s from the UK originally. That's all I was trying to say. I was not trying to offend or discriminate against anybody's nationality, gender, gender bias, age, music preferences, race, colour. tribe, creed or WTF ever else and if I've missed anybody out I'm soo F8&^%&* sorry. How's that? Did that about cover it all??
@@davekeen1963 no worries. i had the pleasure to play with ferdinand once. the whole dutch jazz scene is amazing. cheers.
wish i could see more of Han beenink of that era
Heerlijk om naar te luisteren. Koos ook weer prachtig.
My favorite tenor sax player Al Cohen is always best choice.
Just finished reading his book.I paid my dues, wonderful book
Such an awesome performance. I can't understand why the audience is so quiet though?! Al's name on his sax is next-level coolness. No one else could get away with that but Al. What a legend. Thanks for sharing this.
Just super stuff. Many thanks for the upload!
Awesome footage. Mobley looking like a black panther walking down that street.
Ouwe meuk. Goeie meuk. Echte meuk. Zo worden ze niet meer gemaakt tegenwoordig. Alles was beter vroeggguh
A fantastic Trio, that manches so good with Charles Mcphersons saxplaying. This Quartett is unique.
So good
I'm sorry to hear that Rein has given up playing. I hope he's all right and will return to music soon.
thanks for posting this!!!
So glad this was recorded..super band ..
What is the first song played, and what CD is it on? This is too sweet !

Hank has always been a very special favorite musician of mine. Hank has long been underrated by the press and the polls. But ask any of the best players around today who their favorite tenor players and Hank will be named. He is an original, like no other, and he played in a very relaxed fashion. Hank had the sweet and the hip and always so soulful and funky.....swinging like mad every time!! It's Hank Mobley along with Wynton Kelly that made Miles Davis Friday & Saturday Night at the Blackhawk my favorite all-time Miles record. I saw him at the Blue Coronet in Bed Stuy in 1980. He still sounded pretty good but he was not well and not near his peak but it was a thrill just the same!

You are very welcome!
I recognize his handwriting as I have a copy of a letter he sent from Paris to a promotor in Manchester in ,68 . I have a gig in Manchester also ...

Great!
In my list of fabuolous altoplayers, Charles McPherson comes in by my former best in compagnie with Bird, Cannonball, Stitt, Lou Donnaldson and Jackie Maclean. But why all the accents by the drummer in "A nicht in Tunisia " ? They stop the flow.😮
Song #3 is titled, "Voila pronounced Wal-la (French Rock and Roll)" as printed on the 45tpm on the Debut record label. BTW Debut was owned by Charles Mingus.
Thanks for the info: "Sometimes he, [Babs] recorded the same tune more than one time and used different titles. His motto was: Life is LALA! So this is lala in paris.. All best Rein"
The pianist "robe" the improvisation of the saxophonist girl!!!!!! No elegance!!! It's mais club?
Pas très "pro" , effectivement. Et louper le thème de Bird ..
This was awesome! What was the name of the song/artist at the very beginning of this?

I am doing a thesis on Hank Mobley and I’m having difficulty finding a lot of personal information about him. Does anyone have any recommendations? I am also analyzing some of his solos and showing how he emphasized melody and rhythm. I am taking particular interest in this I dig of you, and remember.

I would suggest you contact the Jazz Video Guy, who has an extensive channel here on RUclips. He has an amazing collection of videos, and knowledge(!) about jazz musicians. He may have some sources for your thesis. Good Luck!
Here's a good informative video about Hank: ruclips.net/video/C-8K39xJFOg/видео.html
Try to get the book on Mobley, published in England. Cheers!
Bought the CD, is absolutely fabulous!
Nice to hear. Enjoy.

Wonder if there are any current interview on his perspective looking back on that relationship. To be given that opportunity when there were other qualified in the line up back then. Incredible indeed.
