Wow! That's incredibly surprising to hear. I think the east side of Christchurch is the only "rougher" area really. Little pockets here in there not as nice, but overall I find the city pretty nice all around- not rough at all. Shocking to hear Christchurch being describe that way, and a first! Especially coming from the US. Some of our "mid" areas are as nice as the "bad" areas of Chch.

Utilities in the mines is about 90 grand a year , worse paying job on site , Also if your on a working holiday visa you wont get a job in actual mining
