As far as the allegations of civilian murders or SASR and CDO regiments indiscriminately shooting non combatants, the general public are receiving this information from the mainstream media, who have a great track record of using hyperbole and misinformation to distract people from the reality called life. Unless you or I were present when any so called war crimes were committed, we do not actually know the truth, only the truth of a third party. Almost every member of my father's family were members of our defence forces, including returned vets. Conveniently, the government train killers then forget about the sacrifices made in the name of our defence and freedom. I don't believe anything that the media say in regards to the military, I believe the people in my life who have served multiple deployments, including Afghanistan, that lasted 20 years and achieved one objective, absolutely nothing.

You're basically saying that soldiers can do anything illegal or not just because it's in the field and just because they're soldiers. That's a disgusting attitude. They are held accountable for their actions by a military court if they are deemed in direct breach of the rules of engagement. Seeing as Ben has only been to a civilian court and been subject to allegations that have nothing to do with his deployment, other than allegations he shot an unarmed civilian, which was corraborated by his own squad but still has not been subject to military court martial, any allegation in a civilian court means absolutely nothing as they do not fall in the same legal jurisdiction. I have respect for Australian military members, emotions have nothing to do with my opinions as I quite frankly don't care if he did shoot a non combatant because it is not my war. Australian military members were targeted by the same individuals they were tasked with training. A chain of command exists in every squad and soldiers do face penalties for breaching rules of engagement. In Ben's case, the chain of command did not have sufficient evidence to proceed with a court martial. As far as the military is concerned, he didn't kill anyone who wasn't trying to kill him, he was also awarded our highest military honour. Whatever Joe public believe has no relevance in his deployments, as they were not there to say "I seen that Ben fella shoot a kid, a goat, pissed on a tree and told a civilian to piss off". Fortunately I have family who are SASR, so I know enough about the military to know that the news readers are talking absolute shit. Imagine serving your country and returning home to be insulted, ridiculed and slandered. Pretty bloody shameful and next time I speak with a family member of the SASR, I'll ask how it feels to be treated as such. Anzac Day and Rememberance Day give veterans two days of the year to be treated with the respect earned. Evidence, something that the military have deemed insufficient to prove any misconduct by Ben. I don't watch the news or read papers so I am lucky enough to have a modicum of free thought, without accepting what the media believe that I should. As far as I'm concerned, the soldiers who spoke up about what allegedly happened are the heroes. If his own men are saying he really did the wrong thing, then he is to be investigated. There's nothing disrespectful about that. And that should apply to any profession regardless of being a soldier or not. His little fart smelling brigade are too blind to see that investigations need to be looked into not staying in the field as you said earlier. Not bragging, but for the record, I've held a dangerous occupation for 15 + years and if one of my fellow officers was ever accused by multiple people of something, I wouldn't jump on the butt kissing 💋 parade, I'd let due process be carried out and hope it wasn't true.

Seeing as Ben has not been subject to a military court martial, a common court of law have no jurisdiction to convict him of any alleged crimes committed while 90% of the country are thinking about or trying to kill you. Some of his squad gave evidence, yet people who are not military members would have no idea about PTSD and the mental health issues associated with being a veteran. My uncle served 28 years as 3 and 4 RAR, SASR and 2CDO. He was fortunate to have survived a black hawk crash in Afghanistan that killed his entire squad. He is only paralyzed from the legs down, no biggie. The only support vets recieve is from the DVA and RSL. Let's train individuals to be killers, persecute them for doing the job the government trained them to do and forget about the service given for our so called freedoms. Mike Hogan It looks like he is now being abandoned by his colleagues and those in charge.The allegations are too damming and disturbing to be covered up any longer.He may have done some heroic things and fought hard for the army but killing innocent people is very wrong and he should be held to account if he is found guilty

try to keep an open mind about this. Ben Roberts Smith is not above criticism just because he's a soldier who got a medal for doing something brave. Think about that. If a police officer, fireman, paramedic, SES volunteer or any Joe nobody did something brave in the past and got a medal and later were accused of murder or worse, you mob wouldn't be jumping up and down defending them. But because it's Ben Roberts Smith you think investigation us somehow bias. Rubbish

The same as every other war. You do not kill civilians or enemies who have surrendered. You do not kick someone in hand cuffs. You do not obey an illegal order. However it is time to stop treating soldiers as heros for actions in battle. I think they are heros when they work with and help locals, but they are not heros for doing their job in battl.
