I love burners, always on the hunt for an affordable skyway or mongoose, sounds like you had some rapid old bmx's. I bought today the cheapest old skool BMX, and jn theory probably the worst.. it's a survivor from the 80's, that's coming up next

Definitely...those acorn mags did fit the grifter forks, I wonder if skyways will, I'll have to check. Can you even still buy grifter conversion forks !!

Not a problem, happy I could help. Hold onto your dream, keep it alive. Custom bmx grifters have been done. There's a chap on the Facebook forums that did one. He may have used longer forks. Definitely achievable but in the format I showed probably not.

Hard to say.. I might sell both grifters, clear them out of the way . Just focus on a lovely collection of burners. But then again I'll happily move it on

They had like a hold lacquer or film.. many were peeled off back in the day. This one's staying though, just needs a really good clean. Cheers for the comment

Cheers..You know what.. I thought about that this morning. I've got those black skyways still on the turquoise burner. It'll have new tyres regardless. The gold wienham wheels will certainly come off for the clean. I may as well put the skyways on just to see what it looks like

Thanks Rick... I love it, some sound advice. It so needs saving. If it was "battered" I would break it up but that gold lacquer is mint, they usually peel on the frame. Nice to see this exceptional survivor. I'll do it justice and save this little beauty and tidy it up

@dealermike1331 Great stuff mike, yeah,them 50mm drill brush bits are great, i would do the pedals,seat stem and all the nuts and bolts etc,and the pedals would come up well also, i would dab a little oil on all the parts after using the brush to stop rusting, looking forward to this one mike👍

​@@rick79991I'll think I'll keep the original grease on the bearings.. they could be done, but if it rides well they why disturb the history I guess !!. 100%, some serious de rusting on the cards with the wire brushes but it's going to come up lovely. I feel it's being saved just in time

We did.. they were (and still are extremely heavy bikes).. it was great growing up in the 80's, glad I brought back some fond memories for you

They weren't the best build quality... Agreed. But for me and many others they are memories, I was one of those 800,000 kids that had a burner, that lived BMX after school, my MK1 went everywhere and I loved it.. in today's market I would love a line up of skyways or PK ripper's, but unfortunately I don't have the spare thousands, what I do have though is a couple of £300 gems that turn heads and relight the memories of so many when I take them out, they bring a smile and for me that's good enough To add, every bike in this video (other than the chopper) I've sold or moved on, still on the hunt for that £200 skyway.. I'll keep looking!. Cheers for the comments though

Yes, absolutely right they'll be. Filming has already begun on the clean up, the cleaning of the frame and the fitting of the missing parts. They'll also be a first ride of the bike which will be amazing. It hung in a shed for 30 years so it'll be nice to see it out and about. That video will be out in about a week. Thanks

Undoubtedly there were better BMX's available back in the day. I think though with the burner, because raleigh sold so many, nearly every kid in the mid 80's who had a BMX can relate to them.. I had an ultra burner, that thing went everywhere!!

The colour is beautiful. Same colour as one of my dad's old Ford Sierra's from back in the day. A "C" reg it was

It's only had the one owner rider since new from what I gather, then dry stored. They seem to get worse when they get passed around or handed down in the family. Ones like these are rare.. this one has had an easy life. Cheers for the price history, great comment

I'm running about in a 2010 polo that's a bit battered that will be up for sale in the next 12 months or so. If you're still flipping cars then I'll be driving it down to London for you

It's a stunning bike Phil. The parts are cleaning up well. The frame will come up like new apart from only a few old battle scars. I was amazed by that post. Nice result

@dealermike1331 I always love restoring old Raleigh bikes, people say they were cheap bikes back in the day but unless they're scratched to bits they clean up really well. 😍 Your old RSW scrubbed up well and my Lizard and Mirage look like they're only a few years old not 34. 😀

Every mark or scratch tells a story. This burner will be cleaned to an inch of it's life, missing parts located then reassembled

I'm well chuffed my pick ups are relating to those who remember them the most. Do you mind me asking what happened to your grifter?..

@dealermike1331 It was sold in the local paper to help fund my next bike (a racer with drop handle bars !!). I'd kept it in good condition. I remember fitting a cool looking Raleigh front lamp that was styled to look like a car fog lamp with a plastic grill. It was also the bike I passed my cycling proficiency test on in '81. Thank you for bringing back some great memories 👍

That's a great story Eddie, thanks for sharing. The grifter hasn't been cleaned for literally decades so I'll be doing a full strip down on the bike and clean up which you might enjoy watching

Great story. What state is the chopper in?.. do you still use it ?... They're knackering to ride now, easy back in the day. 4 miles in and my legs feel like concrete

@@dealermike1331 it's in great condition had it since I was 14 still got it I keep it in a dry warm place covered up so the sun doesn't dye it and I ride it every Sunday with the 3speed gears love it

@@dealermike1331 I live in Sydney and not a lot of flat areas where I am but even so I just presumed there would be a lot of Chopper enthusiasts. So I have no idea what MK1 and Mk3 are worth over here. I can only go by UK prices so appreciate it when you mention prices. The old Chopper reps from the Raleigh Chopper Club Owner Club in both Australia and New Zealand have disappeared. Will be on the look out for more of your Chopper videos. Subscribed 👍

@gregpetterson I think all chopper prices have fallen in the last year. Only slightly. Clean used MK1 MK2 parts still hold money well.. it's all down to demand I guess.

@@dealermike1331 Good to know thanks for this info. Maybe thats why Raleigh only sold the MK4 in the UK as that is where the demand is. I've had a wanted add on Gumtree asking for Choppers. Nothing but scammers offering non existent Choppers, I'm waiting for them to send me a photo of one of your bikes🤣

Personally I would join the UK Facebook groups, they are genuine, enthusiast run with like minded people always offering parts for sale or even complete bikes, MK1, 2, 3 and 4. Some may even ship parts out to Australia. You could start with a nice original paint MK2 frame. In the UK they can be picked up with the forks for around the £150 mark, then the shipping... Just a thought
