I’m might open it up and pop a load of foam in the sagging areas then a nice thick topper over it. Think we’ll probably end up replacing it though next year. Going to do more due diligence when it comes to choosing a new one though.

Thanks, my friend says that his consumer unit is fused so all good.

@@DossingAroundInBoats the fuse in your friends consumer unit is probably not the correct rating or type to be suitable for a solar inverter.

I think you are missing the point, your inverter maybe fused but you are missing the point, your feeding more power into the home wiring, for example in your home fuse box, you will see 10amp fuses for your mains and lights, yes individual fuses. Don't get me wrong, lm not putting crap on you,just the safety aspect for you and your family.

I know, the government has driven people to desperate measures. Thanks for your concern, I’ll pass it onto my friend. He said he contacted numerous electricians but none of them wanted the job or the other ones that did tried to charge more than what the system was worth.

If that’s the case I’ll pass that onto him. Thanks for the information. Thinking about it logically, inverters with islanding cannot create a current but happy to update him if that’s wrong.

@@DossingAroundInBoatshas he though about the earthing arrangements? Is there an auto disconnect in the event of a grid failure? Are the mcb/rcbo bidirectional because you are back feeding the power. What’s the earthing arrangement on the supply? How are you handling earthing on this? There’s a lot I will diy but solar isn’t one of them, too much to go wrong. Even some of the Main Stream sparkies get it wrong.

@@davideyres955 ​​⁠it’s pretty simple to be fair. Growatt plug and play. You can just wire it into your consumer unit if you have a separate one in the shed. This Growatt inverter had a manual isolator for the solar array and built in islanding so if the power goes down it automatically shuts off. I think he’s since had his spark buddy round to tidy it all up.

From experience, the Honda’s are much more solid than the Mercs. Sounds like the Merc will be 2 stroke around that year.. so very different engines. The Merc will probably be a bit lighter and may be a bit quicker but it all depends on what you’re doing. If you’re using in a lake you might lean towards the lighter engine but if using in the sea I’d choose the stronger engine of the 2 which in my opinion will be the Honda. If it were my choice I’d go for the best condition of the 2 engines. Happy boating !

You can either be prepared or unprepared and when you have your kid with you without the right gear I would say that is irresponsible.most deaths at sea happen because of lack of equipment it’s fact. Get yourself a vhf radio and keep it on you at all times. A waterproof pouch for phone,plb,and wear your jackets. Complacency kills

Thanks for sharing your message. I need to work harder on the lifejacket situation. I do have a vhf for worst case scenario. One of my oars lost the button clip but I’ve found it now so all sorted. I need to write a equipment lust really so I never forget the important things. I forgot my fuel take on one trip so I had to stay in the local harbour. Lol Tight lines !

The bottom one (the Torx 30).. mine wasn’t too tight luckily. It came off ok with a socket Torx with the 10mm extension. It was the one a bit higher up for me near the pipes that rounded off and was a real pain.

@@DossingAroundInBoats mine looks like strange angle and torx30 is not taking it - 2h down the line. will have some break before attacking again ...haha. thanks for info

There’s a couple of spline 10mm that attach the exhaust pipe so don’t confuse those.

@@DossingAroundInBoats I got the right one but day no 2 with 30torx slimmer still no luck, if feels that the flex pipe is on its way to hold it properly and I might need to do with grider there just not sure how I'm going to fit one. Did you managed to do it by hand or used impact drill?

Can you get your phone down there with the flash on a record it for 20 seconds.. that’s what I done to see what was going on. From that I discovered my nut was rounded off. I got my impact driver down there just about but that was a bit too powerful for the nut extraction kit and basically rounded the nut even more. From there I got a cheap dremel copy, with a flexible extension that allowed me to grind it off. I kept using my phone to record the progress. A grinding stone in the shape of the end of a pen worked well.

@DossingAroundInBoats cheer's was that a 3.5hp I saw in the video. I was looking at the boatworld website and for the boatworld 300 it was saying the max for that size boat is 10hp. Do you think the sib could handle a little bit bigger or would that be pushing it because of the weight.

@@gaza66these can handle up to a 15hp 2 stroke as they’re lighter. A decent 10hp 4 stroke would be perfect though.
