To The Stars (Official (Fractal) Music Video)
This tune is from my 2021 album 'Five'. Doing some catch-up on making a few basic vids thanks to AI. This is a fractal spiral galaxy video.
This song is about the deep human desire to find purpose to our existence,
made more difficult in a world rife in sterile tech. It's also fact to understand that sometimes
doing nothing of purpose is also who we are. ...and this tune is about the
positive, existential and fun in life. We met existentially in stardust billions of years ago.

De-essing - Various plugin Comments and Sonnox SuprEsser

I've had big issues with high-frequency tones and sibilance in vocals. It can ruin a mix, and cause people to leave your video or audio and not come back to it. There are plenty of videos about de-essing e.g. dynamic EQ, proper mic usage, etc. This just says from my own view what seems to work for my stuff regarding what plugin to use.
How to Master a Song in Cakewalk by Bandlab (with 4 specific plugins)

I disagree, but you've been heard, because Cakewalk Sonar is going to be a paid version (and I dislike it) I noticed it too that Cakewalk is always excluded, but you don't give in to bully tactics. Most DAW are overpriced software. I started with Cubase but couldn't keep up because of hard times in my life. And therefor I'm grateful Cakewalk made it possible for me to get back on track. I will support it as long as I can.

Inherently it won't be hugely diffrent to CbB but will have a new high DPI interface which is long overdue. Would be interested in your views on this and how much you think is a fair price. I hope it will bring manufacturers back onboard and we will see Sonar columns in our favourite music mags once again.

There is an immense CbB society out there, growing every day, and there are always a tons of workarounds against any problem. By supporting this software other developing companies are really starting to take it seriously because otherwise they just stay out of this huge pie.

Have you let the developers know about this "General Error" that can be cleared by playing a clip? Sounds like you've been around a while, and they're interested in squashing old bugs like this. I've been using Cakewalk intensively for the past 5 years and haven't run across that error. Looks like you're a Fabfilter and Waves man. I'm more of a Meldaproduction and Brainworx man. Meldaproduction has that great MFreeFX bundle. The compressor and EQ in it are first class. BTW, didn't you say about a year ago that you were switching to Cubase? Did that not work out?

Did you just say that documentation for VSTs and audio interfaces don't mention Cakewalk, even though those are based on standards that have nothing to do with the DAW being used? Absolutely 100% of my almost 200 paid and free plug-ins work perfectly, as do my audio drivers of four different interfaces, all show up as expected across all of my DAWs. Just because a company doesn't mention a specific DAW in it's marketing material, doesn't mean that it doesn't work -- that is the point of standards and protocols like VST, MIDI, WAV, ASIO, etc. This is coming from someone who mostly uses Reaper and Bitwig now, and who has never been a big Cakewalk fan. In regards to midi interfaces being configured and mapped to work with a DAW, it usually comes from the DAW developers or community projects. I don't think it has as much to do with the company who built the controller itself, so this could be a frustration with Cakewalk. I do understand the apprehension with using a free product to do professional work, but it isn’t always that black and white. Look at amazing free and open-source products like Davinci Resolve, python (the language), Google suite and Chrome, Linux, etc. It really just comes down to whether or not the product works for you in it's current iteration, that's a personal preference.

I think you are suffering from the very real phenomenon that marketeers call price perception. The belief that anything cheap or free can't have much value and that more expensive products must be better purely because they are more expensive. All these DAWs however are merely tools and in the right hands well crafted music is DAW agnostic- I still have music in rotation on shows like Keeping up with the Kardashians that I made with Sonar 8.5 which was over 10yrs old by the time I jumped to Cakewalk by Bandlab. Cakewalk has gotten better and more stable under Bandlab's ownership and I've even been able to speak directly with the Devs and had some tweaks and suggestions implemented which I never could have done under previous regimes. I don't pretend to know what Bandlab's end game is and I'm not sure they do either. They certainly don't appear to be after our money. I get the impression that as son of a billionaire with his own music company Meng was likely a Sonar fan himself and was able to secure his and many others favourite DAW - and I'm cool with that if keeps it alive and updated. I'm one of the few that I know using CBB for professional music that gets used in media but the clients who listen to the finished tracks don't know that, and it's the music that counts at the end of the day.

If it's important to you that your computer software be part of some imaginary "gang," then yes, it's probably best that you use a product that gets "mentioned" more than Cakewalk. Sonar became an abandoned product while it was being developed as payware. If you think that being payware is any guarantee that a program will continue to be developed to its betterment....well, look at Sonar. Logic for Windows. Deck....Acid Pro went for 10 years without an update, now it's been 3 years since its last release. It was payware the whole time. If Yamaha suddenly decides that they no longer want to be in the DAW business and want to focus on motorcycles and construction equipment, Cubase will get kicked to the curb just like any number of other technologies that they have acquired and dumped over the years. Not suggesting that anyone avoid Cubase, it's great, Studio One's great, Ableton's great, Digital Performer, Logic, Mixcraft, REAPER, they (and Cakewalk) are all really good programs for making music. Just don't believe that you can be sure of any longevity or market dominance in software. WordStar, Word Perfect, dBASE, Lotus 1-2-3, some mighty programs and companies have ruled the market and then lost it over the years.Use the DAW that works best for you. If you think that being freeware reduces the chance of compatibility with other things, I don't mean to scare you, but how much did the browser you're using to read this cost you? If it bothers you that there's no Cakewalk logo on your MIDI controller's box then you should use something else (but maybe not Digital Performer, Waveform, Mixcraft, Samplitude, Reason, or MuLab because their logos probably aren't on it either). It's not a good idea to keep all your DAW eggs in one basket anyway. Stay functionally proficient at more than one. I use Cakewalk and Mixcraft, and have a license for Studio One as well. BandLab has now been developing it longer than Gibson had it, and have done a great job. If they stop doing a great job, I'm blessed with a plethora of backup choices. I will also say that just because a company says they support another company's product doesn't mean it's going to work flawlessly and just because they don't mention it doesn't mean that it won't work fine. In my 4 years of using Cakewalk by BandLab, with a collection of hundreds of plug-ins, I've had exactly one instance where another company's plug-in didn't work properly, and switching to the VST2 version instead of the VST3 version solved the issue.

I would agree only in that Cakewalk has been treated as sort of the redheaded stepchild of the bunch, but it has had its trials and tribulations. I have always loved Cakewalk. I used it in the 1990s on Windows 3.1, with my old Yamaha PSR keyboard with General MIDI. Used it to write some music for video games. Used it in 1996-97 when composing music for the video game 101 Airborne: The Airborne Invasion of Normandy, along with a Kurzweil K2500XS (another good brand that had its problems). Stopped composing for a while, as I was actually primarily a software engineer and only wrote music on the side for fun. Later picked up SONAR in 2009 when I went back to college to finish up a degree and worked towards a music minor. Took a composition class and used SONAR along with Native Instruments VST plugins and early version of East/West sounds Symphonic Orchestra. I had to really catch up after over 10 years of doing nothing with music with DAWs. Huge learning curve and Cakewalk was quite different, yet strangely familiar. After that, I once again put away my music, since I had a family that needed my attention. Well, today, kids are 1 and 2 years from heading off to college, and I'm going have free time. I've been struggling whether to pick back up with Cakewalk or purchase one of the others. I am not as concerned with purchasing vs. free. Since I am starting over again, I've been researching DAWs and asking myself, do I continue with Cakewalk, which I have always enjoyed, but has had a rocky history of support. Or do I go mainstream with something like Cubase or FL Studio. I think I've decided to start with Cakewalk to get my groove back, then maybe transition to Cubase if I decide to get more serious with it.
