Why you should consider deferring your Fall 2024 Masters admit to next year
Просмотров 2453 месяца назад
My recommendation: Defer the admit for MEng programs. Go to US for MS and PhD programs. Reasons: 1) Economy has to improve. Too few jobs and too many applicants. 2) Most companies do not sponsor H1B visas. Check H1Bdata.info 3) 800,000 applicants for 85,000 slots. 90% chance of not getting H1B. 4) What happens if you do not get H1B? Use 3 year OPT. Go to a different country. 5) Cost of educatio...

    In Orlando, Fl, for 2 1/2 years, I was working as a W2 employee, but I was getting paid as a W1099 independent contractor without benefits and no overtime pay. I've never signed a non-compete agreement, and about one month ago, I quit my job and started my own junk removal businesses, and yesterday, I was contacted by text message by my former employer and he was threatening me to stop and close my business because I violated the non-compete agreement. I was working misclassified and never signed any non-compete agreement. Can he sue me? Can I report/ sue him because I was getting paid as an independent contractor, but I was working as a W2 employee every day from 8:00 am until he said you are clear for the day after 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 hours shift!?

      You should talk to a labor law attorney. They know the best and the initial conversation is typically free. My reading of the situation is that the employer threatening you is an empty boast. It is a big waste of time and resources for lawyers to target ordinary people. Only senior executives in companies need to fear. You also have good ground to sue the employer yourself. What happened to you is a serious labor law violation. A lawyer or attorney will get you more specific advice.

    Hello, I’ve been accepted and given out-of-state waiver at Master of Engineering general program at Texas Tech University,USA.That means I have to pay in state only.It’s two year course.It’s interdisciplinary nature gives me to choose any subjects or courseworks for 4 semesters from all engineering disciplines like Computer,Electrical, Mechanical,Industrial,Geomatics,etc.I am planning to taking some Machine Learning courses and specialize in that field too.I also wanted to take other management subjects such that it can make me more practically capable.Therefore I am considering this degree over MS.Therefore, my tuition fees will be 8k USD for one year without adding living expenses.Now, the program is allowing internships too while it was not before.Additionally, I did engineering in electronics and communication and worked for 2years as a software developer in XX company.So, will it be good to go and how likely will it affect for approving the VISA in this course.It’s in STEM category and allows OPT too.I’m afraid how should I convince the VO as this is non-thesis based course.However, program advisor is also telling that they will allow us RA/TA if we can from other departments but not from this department.But the selection requirements might be quite different than the normal one.I also got acceptance in another one university in computer science and issued the I-20 including Texas Tech but I got more interested in this course due to its interdisciplinary nature.Would you help me with this that how can I convince the VO and what’s the possibility of student VISA getting approved.I am really in a need of help regarding this matter.

    • @Careerbolt
      @Careerbolt 3 месяца назад

      If you are interested in the MEng program and have work experience, you could consider going to TTU. Visa officers have one major concern - will you come back to India at the end of the program. You should make a case that you will be back. The job market will help make the case. Since the costs are really low, it is worth taking the risk and going for this program. Just because aware that the job market is not good right now and may not change for a year.

    @Careerbolt I came to the USA this spring to pursue my masters in Information Systems. Back in India I have 2 years of experience in IT. I see many students who completed their MS are still unemployed and struggling to survive here. I'm planning to return to India. Because I don't have a plan of living here for more than 5 years. And being here for 5 years is of no use financially (I have a education loan of 40Lakhs) so it would take 1.5 - 2 years to clear the loan after my MS and I'll have to leave only with 1 year of savings.This is the best scenario if I get the Job. Recent under grads in India are blindly choosing US for MS and coming here with huge Loans are gonna suffer. Please make a video on this!

    Firing and hiring employees while applying for the GC process can be contradictory since it might suggest that the new hire is more valuable to the USA, potentially conflicting with labor certification principles. Companies like Microsoft, Google, Meta, and others that have downsized significantly can face challenges in sponsoring GCs. When seeking immediate sponsors, it's crucial to carefully evaluate companies based on their financial stability and revenue-to-employee ratios. These questions can often be addressed with HR or found online. Building professional connections can provide insights into a company's culture and business performance. It's also important to stay updated on finance and global news as disruptions in other countries can have ripple effects globally.

      I would recommend Wisconsin for a better student experience, learning and jobs in Chicago, a logistics hub. TAMU will get you to work in Texas in places like Dallas, Houston and Austin. Check which companies recruit from both schools in the placement reports or by emailing the graduate admission office. Also, check placements by searching for alumni on Linkedin and maybe talking to a couple. Your financial situation also matters, so look at affordability in both schools. As a final parameter, ask yourself if you want to settle in Chicago or Texas. Chicago is damn cold, and Texas in like Chennai or Hyderabad. Message me on Linkedin if you want to talk more.

Is it worth getting a MEng? Will it open up more opportunities? I have 5 summers of engineering internship experience and I have a job offer as well, but I don’t know if having a degree in physics (concentration: engineering physics) will be good enough.

    • @Careerbolt

      You are lucky to have something in hand. The job market is bad and may not pick up for some time. So, if you have a job, I think it is better to defer the admit, and join the next year. I have seen people defer by even two years as they keep working. In the meantime, you will get some savings and additional time to reflect if a Masters degree is for you. Typically, only R&D jobs require a Masters degree, not other functions. In your case, your internships have given you enough real world experience. Academic degrees are pretty useless when it comes to the real world. Most people can pick up job skills on the job after beginning work. You can even pick up some MOOC courses by the side or even examine part time study options.

      Missed answering this. Check up my videos about AI. VLSI and design are very difficult to replace, but nothing is impossible. Your generation should not worry though.

    I am trying to decide between Berkeley MEng in environmental engineering and a MS from Northeastern also in environmental engineering. I am coming from Environmental Science undergrad so I don't have as technical of a background. What would you recommend for me?

    • @Careerbolt

      This is many ways to look at the choices. Pick up criteria like placement report, starting salary, location you want to be in long term, % of students getting scholarships after a semester in the course and overall cost of the program as important factors. Rank each university on these parameters. Call up the graduate admissions coordinator and talk to alumni from the programs through Linkedin. The idea for you is to learn as much as possible in the Masters program, so your prior exposure or lack of it does not matter. You should be more thoughtful of settling down in Northern Cal vs Boston, these can mean very different things. Berkeley is also one of the most expensive programs around, so you need to have a big bank balance to afford it. I highly recommend not taking huge student loans, as the job market is not good at present. Final two thoughts. A two-year program is better than a one-year program as the job market could change in two years, but I don't see it getting better any time soon. Also, you have an option to defer your admit by a year. Hopefully you have a year of work experience and more savings by then, making iteasier for you.

      Thank you for such a fast response and your input its much appreciated. I plan on moving to Boston either way until 2027 so in that sense Northeastern is better, but Berkeley is the best rated school in my program and Northeastern is 33rd. Do you think this ranking means that much? I will not have to take out student loans for either school@@Careerbolt

      I think a 2-year course is safer than a one-year course, as the job market is not very good in the US. Connect with me on Linkedin if you want to talk. I don't know what specialization you are targeting.

      Reach out to Vinod on his Linkedin Profile with your resume. Compensation depends on undergraduate degree, interview performance, compensation philosophy of the company and quality of work experience. Giving exact numbers is not easy. The numbers shared here are average numbers across industry, and there is a lot of variation as per the factors listed above.

    any tom dik and harry become advisor these days because of cheap internet and because youtube pay money for views and then there are plenty of ignorant meat head in this country who are desparate to live in US but do not educate themselves enough by all visa rules and promote these kind of low level videos. First of all , if you are not an immigation lawyer and still itch to give advise then atleast do full research. you do not need plenty of times in advance to apply for changing the status to B1/B2. As long as your change in immigration status filled form reach to USCIS by the day of your last day of 60 day grace period , you are good. you can do it electronically on the same day. also getting on dependent of your Spouse H1b is riskier option than getting on b1 because what happens to your status if your spouse loose job too? he also claimed that india and china economoy have been booming like crazy. really? china's economy has been deterioting since 2021 when US and EU decided to pull over FI from china and advised their companies to exit china over Corona virus controversies. China's foreign investment went down from 330 M to mere 30M from 2021 to 2022. What is happening to china's economy now if the impact of that. but potato head like him wont understand all these nor his ignorant viewers

    • @Careerbolt
      @Careerbolt 6 месяцев назад

      It doesn't matter when you graduated. Ask yourself if you have any skills which the industry needs. Even if it is data entry, you will find a job somewhere, though with low compensation. If you want high compensation, you have to start from scratch and learn something from an online or regular course.

    Thank you for this information. Can the current organization withhold acceptance of your resignation and relieving letter even after completing the contractual notice period and asset handover because they are aware you are joining a competitor? If not, what are the options the employee has in such a scenario? Can the employee be termed absconding in spite of serving notice period?

    • @Careerbolt
      @Careerbolt 6 месяцев назад

      It is difficult to say what the company will do. Generally it is neither worth their time or lawyers fee to teach a lesson to a junior employee, anyone below a director or VP position. In your situation a company should not withhold. Talk to the HR head in case of an issue. Don't talk about your future plans, that is none of anybody's business. However, one should ask themself if they are following the split of the code of conduct and also think about how such a move will look on the resume in the future. Again, every company is different in what it does. Talk to a lawyer.

      Recently, rules have changed to allow B2 visa folks to enter the US and look for jobs. You can do a Google search to see the change in rules. This is a workable idea. Note that I am not an attorney to give exact advice.
