Our pick for #1 Beginner Overland Trail (Ep.93)
Drive the BURR TRAIL Road and its offshoot Wolverine canyon loop.
The burr trail Is 66 miles of paved road with breathtaking views. It’s paved yes, but still remote and there are no services.
However, Off Burr Trail Road are dirt trails that add to your adventure. If you want more, take the Wolverine loop. Still considered a green, this road weaves through Wolverine and Moody canyons. If you are a beginner off-roader or are considering trying Overlanding, this is the trail for you.
In our overall goal from I-70 to the Az border, we are a week into our self made Utah Overland route. The last few days have been easy and the BURR is a nice break from the earlier parts of the trip.

Our first Overland Expo. We've been avoiding this for years because we knew we'd want lots of things. But it's time for some upgrades and what better place to explore all the options than the Overland Expo Mountain West. We saw lots of cool rigs, the new Toyota Land Cruiser, Truck House and more. We also explored suspensions, air compressors, and Electrical/Solar system upgrades. We need all of...

It's heavy machinery day. Who knew we'd get this opportunity. Is it every Man's dream to drive huge things? Not only a man's... Marisha's too. This whole day started out as a mild joke when we asked Brian's cousin if he had Giant earth moving vehicles to rent , his answer was "Of Course". Then we asked, "Can we drive one?". His answer was, again, "Of Course". Well you don't have to tell us twic...

Life throws you curveballs sometimes. On our way to Mexico for a 2 month overland trip we received a call about a family emergency. 7 days later Brian lost his Dad and his Mom had fallen and broken her leg having to have surgery. Needless to say not much is the same. We have been making the 4 hour drive to Colorado Springs all summer to help Brian's Mom heal, move and settle into her new life. ...

I'm wondering if the biggest pool "community one" its warm..?
Hi. Yes. It’s slightly warm but not hot. Cool enough to be refreshing but not cold. The hot ones are the small ones in your campsite.
@brianandmarisha409 got it Thanks for the information
@fsantamaria1974 sure thing. It’s 100% worth the drive.
@brianandmarisha409 thanks
That’s deadmau5
What? Where?. I’m so confused hahah.
So glad you all are heading out again! More Carlos zoomies please 😊
Haha. Ok. Noted. He sure knows how to make the best of things. You’ll love the Muddy Creek Episode then.
Great video!!! Gah! Miss y’all! Cows everywhere! Loved all the drone footage - epic landscape.
@@colleenblair9698 we miss you guys too!!
Always good stuff. Carlos is liv’n large.
I want to come back In My next life as Carlos.
My wife and I really enjoy this channel. It’s our current favorite! Thank you for taking the time to make the videos and keeping us inspired!
Hi. That’s so nice. Thanks. We have a lot of fun making them even tho they are a lot of work. Trying to stay consistent is the hardest part. We are workin on that. Thanks for watching!! We are planning a lot of winter trips.
Do you think it’s getting more fun because y’all are better at driving that type of terrain? Looks so awesome!! Gorgeous
Probably. But this wasn’t as hard as AZ. It’s definitely different than driving our old cars on this type of road. Van takes a bit to trust.
Marisha is the clear winner of form, Brian’s tennis elbow got him hahah. Marisha huffing the man smell on the camera stick and Brian rubbing the hammer all over himself killed me. Oasis hunters!❤
Hahaha. Yes! I knew it.
It’s that a Swiss shepherd? I have one, vanlifing it up as well. Nice.
Hi. Yep. Carlos is a Swiss. They are pretty amazing dogs right?! He is our second one. In earlier episodes ( like Baja) you get to meet Klaus. He too was awesome. ❤️🐾
It would be much easier if you had 4lo.
Hi. We do have 4 low. And we use it. A lot. 👍🏻👍🏻the van is , well, a van tho so there are limitations with articulation, length, height. We 4x4’d our whole lives together (more than 25 years) so we realize we can’t do everything on the roads anymore and that’s ok. Still channeling and fun. Thanks for watching.
fun times ehy ! how much wolf is in that dog ? safe travels ~peace~
Type 2 fun. Carlos is a Swiss Shepherd. No wolf at all.
Yes, I now know what you mean by sketchy! My wife is not that good of a spotter and I am not as good of a driver as Brian. Definitely will not do that part of the trail! BTW, Marisha had better form with the resistance bands! Next try TRX straps from the roof of the Sprinter..
Hahah. Yes! I’ll tell Brian I win this vote.
Nice!! Willing to share your route details? 😁
Yes for sure. We marked all the rough spots too. Do you have gia? I’ll email it to you.
@@brianandmarisha409 Yes, I have Gaia.. Thanks!
@@brianandmarisha409 Same here. Mind sharing the route? I have Gaia also. We love this area ... not as brave with our van, but we bring bikes along and explore more with those. Thanks so much!
Yes I’ll share. I’m adding some markers and notes still but I’ll share for sure. I’ll need an email so private me (@marishacowles) or (@marisha Farbotko Cowles) message me via Facebook or instagram and give me your email Privately there. Cheers. Thanks for watching. The entire trail is fine except for that 1 pesky 1/4 mile stretch. It will be another week but I’ll send.
It's funny. I noticed that cabinet open just before you stopped as the tortillas fell out.
😂😂. Poor Carlos.
Who’s in charge of adjusting the new Falcons.?? Notice any difference?
@@lorenworthington8739 hi. We notice a big difference. Once the front inverted struts get added it will be even more noticeable. We really notice the rear most for now. The adjusting is both of us. Or just me( marisha) if he’s airing up. They are easy and quick to adjust.
Great vid!
Thanks! It’s fun right?
Love Utah!
Here too!!!
I love that whole area. Was in The Maze, Shaffer and White Rim in May this year. It was spectacilar.
In a van? Parts of all that would scare me in a van so I’d love to know if it’s doable in a sprinter.
Awesome! Glad to see you guys are able to be back on the road - and glad to come along!
Thanks. And thanks for watching.
The cliff drops and narrow trails look insane on video.. I could only imagine what they were like in-person!!!!!! 😬😬😳 The views tho!!! 🏜️
Yes. Stomach flippy for sure.
We just did that one Saturday
@@danswanson7399 fun right?
@@brianandmarisha409 yes. A bit scary making room for oncoming vehicles though. We drove it going downhill.
@danswanson7399 hmmm not sure what would be worse. Up or down. Maybe down. It’s a cool drive tho.
@@brianandmarisha409 not sure which would be scarier. It is a beautiful drive and we’re glad we did it. Looking forward to the rest of your videos.
😮😮😮😮
Favorite spot?… so far?
Of all time? A bay we found in Baja (if you watch the series you'll see where). This trip: Muddy Creek or backside of Powell - because we needed it and it came at the right time.
Sick upgrades!!!! Also Carlos sprinting around after a bath was everything. ❤❤
@@colleenblair9698 Carlos makes it all really.
The drone shots 🤤
@@colleenblair9698 right?!
Great series. Why is he called "Double O"?
Haha. Great question. When we met him YEARS ago he was trying to be all formal at work and said please call me James. So Naturally Brian called him 00 (007). Thanks for watching.
@@brianandmarisha409 ... I hope you guys can do another Baja trip next year. I'd recommend trying to surf at Scorpion Bay. It is perfect for longboarding when it is small.
@@roninplaya1 thank you. We were headed back this past spring when we had family emergencies. We’ll try again next year. We did hit scorpion bay last time but had no luck and it was flat. Timing was off for us but we will go back. 🤟🏼
Loved meeting you, Brian & Carlos!
You as well. Carlos loved you. Enjoy the Baja series. If you ever want to message us my contact info is below for instagram and Facebook. Cheers. Safe travels.
I don’t think I know of anybody who is beaten the living bezeezers out of a stock Revel suspension more than you guys. I have the Falcon 4.3 on our DIY 144 sprinter and I have become very accustomed to its responsiveness. And we also have the ARB air compressor. It’s funny how that little thing is four times louder than the diesel engine. we stayed next to some rather audible folks down in Baja one night. It was my pleasure to turn on the air compressor at 7:30 AM when it was time for us to depart. Karma.
😂😂😂
great video. actually felt like it could have been longer. But I guess it's good to always leave people wanting more.
Now you will need to add some quick deflate valves to your wheels to make good use of your new ARB compressor!
Oh, we have them. They’re just the old-school ones. Dented a rim day 4 of this Utah trip. So that comes next. Haha. Hemoraging money. We also need new tires now. Oy vay! Always something. Oh. And rally struts too. 💰💰💰
@@brianandmarisha409 Can't wait to see what you do to upgrade your house batteries..
@Wa61105 us too
@Wa61105 thanks for all the info
200 bucks for that bamboo folding chair with a hole in the seat is pretty crazy! But every time i see how much things cost in the US these days is pretty shocking...
We pay a lot for poo devices around here. 😂
Hey guys, always enjoyed your videos, especially Baja, next time you’re in Southern California we should connect and do some exploring in the vans together, 🍻 John B
For sure!!
im curious how many miles you have on your van and was it new when you bought it?
The van right now has about 87,000 miles. And we did get it new. About 5 years ago. About 30% of our miles are off road.
Bahahha we are interested in poop paraphernalia
Glad to see you guys making some upgrades to the van and sharing some of the cool things at the Expo.. I have to look into that coffee straw for Bike and Back packing! We have a 2019 Revel that has gone through a lot of upgrades as well.. I did do a DIY Lithium battery upgrade to 400AH that has worked out well for us.. Can't wait to see what changes you have made for yourself!
Cool - we'd love to hear more about your upgrade on battery. We are overthinking it a little I think. Lithium in -17 degree Steamboat Winters poses a few concerns. Would love to hear your experiences on that. Thanks for being patience while we dealt with some family obligations. We are glad to be back.
@@brianandmarisha409 I sent you a FB message with a bit more info.
Very very expensive now.as much or more than the United States. And the new government is very scary now be careful things are changing in Mexico now be safe
I bet.$. You could tell it was getting very popular. We’ll head back next spring I hope.
Please stay off our beaches the gringos have just about destroyed them with their RVS and trucks were trying to save them for future generations
I didn’t realize you could just go there and try them out
You can’t. Hahaha. We know people. 😏

Street food is still our first choice. We’ve eaten street food all over The world where meat is kept out in the open air but have had food poisoning more times in the US than anywhere. It’s not everyone’s jamb but we love it. Defiantly a risk if you don’t have certain rules. It MUST be cooked or heated to temperature in front of you and right before eating. We broke that rule once in Cambodia and were both horribly sick. Seafood off a platter in the hot sun -not a great idea by the way. Haha We also can’t even guess at all the crazy things we’ve eaten.
Welcome to Baja guys.🎉❤😂

Hey guys! I was driving by Delmonico late this evening and noticed your van. I am the guy that shouted at you through the window. 7/7/24. Subbed right after our greeting. Good luck and God bless y’all
Hey guy that yelled at us from the car haha. Always nice to see people interested in van adventures. Just a word of advice start later in the series. The first series is a little painful.
