Sharing my love for the hobby of ham radio with the world. Over 40 years, I've had Ten Tec, Yaesu, Icom, Flex, Kenwood, Drake, SteppIR antennas, tons of home brew antennas. I am a CW contester and DX'er. I also can be found ragchewing on 40M CW. I only run morse code ( CW ) and some digital modes like RTTY and a little FT8. I also help run a small remote control ham radio company called BeLoud - www.beloud.us This allow hams who don't have a good station or antennas to remote in to some really cool stations in the US and around the world. I use LOTW for QSL. I am a member of CWops, FOC, ARRL A-1 operator, DXCC Honor Roll. And lots of contest wins, mostly with my buddies.

Weighted VFO knob for BeLoud remote stations
What I cannot understand it’s why all people here continue to test radios in CW, when their best can be given by compare rx of low signals and frequency where they can get out the real force od filters and dsp. The CW circuit receiver is the most elementary system in the radio and do not tell about the real quality of an arbitrary multi conversion circuit, it’s quite normal to do not hear much difference between the two test and the two radios
Clear to me the Orion is better...... so makes me wonder how Rob Sherwood comes up with his ratings. Are dollars involved? Ten Tec being defunct may be a factor. I heard him on air discussing the current offerings and he was far from flattering on his comments live. Not sure why his ratings don't back up his actual comments. $$$$$$$$$$$$???
To me they both did well period
¿O no? ¿O con ponerle una compacta en L que sobresalga solo unos pocos cm hacia arriba es suficiente? (Imagino que solo para escuchar radio no será necesario conectarle más aparatos, ¿no?) Gracias.
You need to learn how to tune a signal. You were off axis on the 710 much of the time. Makes a difference. Also with weak signals, start wider and only narrow the filter when needed. The Kenwood is a great rig. The 710 can handle strong adjacent signals better.

Hi Steve, thank you for the video you shared. Could you tell me how many anticlockwise turns i must do for a 40-driver element? 10 turns feel like the tension is a bit loose FOR 40M spool.
Thanks for the video.
Kenwood always had and have the best received audio (and transmit), hands down. Most of Yaesu products are harsh compared to Kenwood unless it's the top of the line 5000.
You need to be way more precise with your tuning, to ensure they match. It seems the Kenwood doesn't tune well?
FTDX10 seemed to have the better output?? I assume when you tapped the unit, it was the one we were listening to. The FTDX10 is the clear winner. Also curious why the Kenwood was not set to the exact same (displayed) frequency as the FTDX10? That will skew the results, too. I would hope they both tune the same when the "numbers" are the same!!
I had the Sommerkamp version in the day.. Your VFO is showing signs of instability...
Bringing back memories from the 90s in a real sunspot cycle.
Seems like both radios should have been on same frequency
omg the guy cannot send his own call correctly (sp6gvu) LOL
My morse code isn't very good, but it sounded like a critique of putting pineapple on pizza.
It’s and air cool dummy load. I’ve seen the balun taken apart. There’s a 600 ohm resistor and a balun. You’re just heating the resistor. Anything that offers 50 ohms across the spectrum is defying physics. It’s literally like putting a dummy load on your radio. Even a ham stick can do better. I bought one and I cry every time I switch between it and my dipole. Goes from S9 to S1.
y SSB?
I hate SSB. Only CW - digital
Muito Bom,nota dez.
❤❤😂
how to get the same macro? my setup n1mm sends morserunner macros. so F2 does not send the call, but only the report. tks chris f5ind
Nobody talks about the white noise of the other radios. Ten Tec Orion 1 and the Omni7 and the Jupiter were easy to listen to. Not all that hissing white noise blending with everything. The Ten Eagle was even quieter.
Filtering is a bit wide on both radios…. I had a 570D and I should’ve never of sold it. Close the filter and turn the gain down so us could not hear any static the signal with pop out clear and clean. Unbelievable the prices of Kenwood Radios at the moment 😂
I have a 50' Universal Aluminum Free Standing Tower that looks much like yours. Have you ever seen one of those jack screws for those? AD4TX

thanks for the video? Is there a final list to see the errors? thanks

Thanks for the video. Very impressive.I must give it ago. I am a new member of cwops, but so far I have not called CQ in the CWT. I can head copy ragchew at 28-30 wpm but typing in a callsign in N1MM logger in a contest, no way. SP is what I am doing at this time. I must give this a go.
Sir if u fed just yr mast instead, it would have worked much better
Of course, but this was a test of that antenna, not my tower
FTDX10 FTW.
I would say Yaesu is more actual thanks to the design, and to the monitor. As reception IMHO I don't see any difference. 73s de HB3XUT.
Yaesu seams to be a bit clearer but it’s brand new tech respectively. As others have said the dx10 filtering in an rf noisy environment would make a large difference
assume you have a truck named 'lighting'
Inspiring🙂 I'm also grandpa, my grandson Alex is 2, I take exam for licence in Dec this year, in the future hope to build similiar relation with Alex, 73!
This is so neat! As his mom, I have no clue what's going on here, but I'm still really proud of him. He made it onto RUclips with Grandpa!
Go for it Jake, go for it Tom, Lovely Ten-Tec BTW !
I cannot type fast enough. So it's a problem. But will get there
Smaller flatter keyboards help me with that.
We need more like him around
Nice... almost the same..
can't watch these videos as I don't care for C.W. nice video on the antenna though.
If not for CW, I probably would not enjoy the hobby at all. But its great that it has something for everyone.
The AGC on the 101MP is set to MID as opposed to auto on the 10, would that make a difference in this comparison ?
Thank you for sharing this. I was thinking of purchasing one.this gave me some insight to owning this antenna.
Awesome, hope it helps
I have this antenna ground mounted. Best FT8 antenna you can get.
Good video on rebuilding the motor. Got to do same fr lightning hit. de K5SL
Iv worked Pat so many times and pretty sure he's using a key
Great comparison. One suggestion---at least part of the time, try to linger a bit longer on one radio or another--I know you were switching quickly to show the difference during a single transmission, but it was difficult to follow which was which some of the time, particularly at the beginning, even watching your hand on the switch (an overlay telling which radio was in use at any given time would help, but I know that is more editing work lol). But this was otherwise a fantastic comparison and really shows the capabilities of strong signal handling of both radios in **real world** conditions, which trumps the specs on paper any day of the week! Thanks and 73s!
Excellent example! I own both and agree. Identical receiver sensitivity. Shut your eyes and you won’t know which one is on.
That whole tape system makes me nervous.... the sound of the motor doesn't help either.
