Striving to foster gratitude for the awe inspiring beauty which surrounds us in the great and the small, the common and the rare.
Brown-headed Nuthatch at Cavity
While on an outing with Four Rivers Audubon we were blessed to discover an active Brown-headed Nuthatch nest cavity adjacent to one of the public trails. So, a few days later when the light was better I went back and sat close enough to observe but not so close as to bother the birds as they came with food and left with fecal sacs.

Prothonotary Sings & Eats
Просмотров 5243 месяца назад
A Prothonotary Warbler sings as it eats aphids in Florida's Mallory Swamp. In the background you'll also hear a nearby Red-eyed Vireo, a Northern Parula, and a Mourning Dove.
King Rail 'kek' Calling
Просмотров 3053 месяца назад
On a beautiful spring morning in Florida's Mallory Swamp, this King Rail was heard persistently issuing its 'kek' call. Eventually just the head of the bird became visible. Finally it emerged into the open allowing a good view of it as it called. After some time it ran away across the Spatterdock pads (the thumbnail is a still image captured during that escape.)
Least Bittern Display Call

After arriving on their breeding grounds, Least Bitterns become quite vocal as they establish territories and seek mates. This one, in Florida's Mallory Swamp, was first heard counter-calling with another a bit farther off.
A Northern Parula Sings

A brief view as a Northern Parula, recently returned from overwintering, issues one brief song before flitting away (and continuing to sing from out of camera view, of course.)
Least Bittern Vocalizing
Просмотров 14 тыс.Год назад
While exploring a beautiful spot in Florida's Mallory Swamp I heard several Least Bitterns vocalizing rather quietly. One seemed reasonably close and in fact climbed the reeds within just feet of where I stood. I'm grateful for that bird's patience and persistence as a very cooperative subject!
Yellow billed Cuckoos & Katydids
Просмотров 297Год назад
A Yellow-billed Cuckoo subdue a Katydid it has caught by battering it into submission. But watch about 11 seconds in. Although she hasn't given th tail-bobbing signal which would invite the behavior, another Cuckoo, presumably her mate, mounts her for about 2 seconds before flying away without copulating. And he too has a Katydid in his bill! It may be safe to presume they have hungry nestlings...
Marsh Wren Singing

A Marsh Wren singing its bubbly song on a beautiful May morning at St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge.
Hooded Warbler Singing
Просмотров 3,5 тыс.Год назад
Of several Hooded Warblers singing on the Steinhatchee Springs Tract in Lafayette County, FL one April morning, this one was kind enough to pose for a moment or two. Because on their breeding grounds the birds favor the mid and understory of forests they are sometimes easier to locate than may other Warblers which prefer the canopy. But vegetation in the places they seem to prefer is usually ve...
Acadian Flycatcher's Song
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.Год назад
The song of an Acadian Flycatcher isn't much, just a quick "Peet-ah" (still more elaborate than its usual call note, a simple "Peet"). But in this video you'll note that the bird puts its all into the effort. The crown is slightly raised, the tail and wings flexed, and the bird fairly leaps from the limb with each utterance. That commitment along makes the song beautiful to me!
Bachman's Sparrow Stump Singing!
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.Год назад
Yes, this is another video of a Bachman's Sparrow singing from a burned stump. These birds, once known as "Pinewoods Sparrow", are in serious trouble as the clearing of the mature pine forests they need has greatly diminished acceptable habitat. And changes to forestry practices (especially the lack of regular fire) have made much of the remaining pinewoods unsuitable. So I'm very pleased to ha...
Eastern Towhee Singing
Просмотров 4,4 тыс.Год назад
This Eastern Towhee sang a slightly modified version of the familiar "Drink Your Tea-e-e-e" song of the species. It seems this bird didn't care whose tea you consume, just "Drink Tea-e-e-e". Anyway, in the background you'll hear Northern Cardinal, Red-bellied Woodpecker, American Crow, Tufted Titmouse, and one of my favorites - Bachman's Sparrow.
Summer Tanager Singing Softly
Просмотров 6 тыс.Год назад
When this video was captured (4/3/23), male Summer Tanagers had arrived from migration within just the last few days. Females will begin to arrive a bit later. Some of those I observed that morning were likely just passing through on their way to their preferred breeding grounds. But every year several pairs nest on SRWMD's Owens Spring Tract in Lafayette County, FL. This bird was calling and s...
Northern Parula Singing
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.Год назад
I certainly wish the view of this male Northern Parula was not so obstructed. But it's pretty uncommon for the one of these to sit still and sing for me, let alone at shoulder height! Those familiar with the species will tell you that while they sing a lot throughout the breeding season, usually it's from way up in the canopy. This one broke that mold! I was standing along the banks of the Stei...
Red-eyed Vireo Singing & Eating
Просмотров 487Год назад
The Red-eyed Vireo is sometimes called "The Preacher Bird" because it never stops singing. (As a retired preacher I can use that disparaging monicker without shame!) The constant vocalizations of the species begin as soon as it arrives on the breeding grounds and lasts at least until Fall migration. This individual shows that even consuming a meal is no reason for silence.

wow, that is brilliant captured. well done sir.
What a gorgeous bird! Great video! New subscriber here ✨
Hello, a nice observation!! I only film in a nature reserve close to my hometown and always find a few nests of nuthatches and what i do to film them close, is to wait when they leave and put my tripod and camera close to the opening and film for about 25 minutes and do that several times in different positions.Greetings Gijs

Hello, a very beautiful movie of this bird and wonderful to see and hear!!! Greetings from the Netherlands and subscribed to your channel.Have a nice day 😊😊
Helo tuyệt vời quá ❤❤❤
I only saw one one time in all my life
A world without birds would sound like night time
The chorus of birdsong adds a truly glorious dimension to the beauty of nature, in my view. (And so I'm grateful too for the owls and all the nightjars and such.)
I have a mockingbird in a neighboring tree singing a Carolina Wren song in the middle of night. For real!
I love these birds ngl, they look absolutely goofy 💀
Glad you like them too.
I love herons in general, not just bitterns, but I think this tiny guy is my favorite of them.
I look forward to their return here each spring - a favorite of mine too!
Love when it looks like o^o
They really built like 😮 sometimes when they open their beak and stare.
Fantastic thanks for posting such a clear video! Not a bird I have been lucky enough to see on my three holidays to the states!
Thanks so much for enjoying the video! Hope you'll one day have the chance to enjoy one of these beautiful birds in person!

Такая красивая птица, ....а звуки ....если бы услышал в природе, то подумал бы что это лягушка....
Thanks, I'm glad you find these birds beautiful too. For a long time I had wondered at the source of that call, and was glad when I finally learned its source.

I wonder If the two ranidaes clash once in awhile. I'm sure they do for territory.
Throw in bronze frogs and River frogs in certain areas in northern florida and georgia.
@@Riverfrog124 oh.. yes the green/bronze frogs do fight. They scare off the juvenile bullfrogs. But bigger ones hold their ground.
