    I watched this video before and I have been thinking about it.. I have multiple pairs of skis that have demo bindings that are lifted.. I also have my 25+ year old race skis that have spacers.. Actually, out of my 10 pairs of skis, I only have 2 pairs that are flat to the ski.. One is 99 under foot and that slides all over the place.. My Stormrider 105s really slice the carve when I roll the edge over.. I am not sure what a spacer would do on these skis.. I am 5'9 so I am not sure if I am in the short category... I am still thinking about all of this...

    Thank you for this video! I have the previous ski (MX99) and have been trying to figure out why more people don’t talk about these. They’re considered a bit niche - fat carver? Why? - but I can’t imagine better for a full day of skiing, focused on groomers, on the west coast. One of the other commenters mentioned how these turn anything into a race course. On the west coast, where ice is rare especially after 10am, it’s so true. If I were on really firm bulletproof ice, sure, I’d want something narrower for being quicker edge to edge with more torsional stiffness. But here, it’s not ice I have to deal with, it’s that the groomers get soft by like 10-11am. Narrower skis don’t plow through and smooth out choppy snow as well as fatter skis. These cut through all conditions like butter. At Palisades/Alpine I notice ski patrol staring at me. One actually pulled me aside to say “I need to pull your pass … … For having too much fun!!!” Your reviewers hit it. You need to be strong and know how to ski these correctly. I’m still learning (not a racer or instructor) and they’re teaching me to be better. If you do it right, you bring that focus, commitment, and yes…anger…WOW do they reward you! I’m still curious to own a narrower, tighter turning ski someday, like 72mm, for if I find myself on truly firmer conditions. But having tried a lot of other well regarded frontside oriented skis (though not true race skis) like the MX84, Deacon, Mantra, i.Titan, Wingman 84 CTi…no interest in them anymore, now that I own these and know how to use them. I do also have the FX 106 HP for days when I feel more like off piste. Both skis can go to both places but the MX99 brings markedly more power, stability, and edge while being way more work and punishment for bad technique off piste, while the FX106 HP is still a super fun and very sharp carver while being significantly looser and floatier off piste.

  • @vthike
    @vthike 4 месяца назад

    I really want the MX but in a narrower waist, probably 75. I currently ski the FX94, love these an push them to the limit. Sometimes just letting gravity do its thing and let them rip on groomers. At the top end they get a little unstable. The only skis I never found the top end of control were my Kastle RX National Teams. Hopefully the MX will be close to those.

    • @ransquare
      @ransquare 4 месяца назад

      I have the FX 106 HP and the old MX99 (previous model, I think heavier). FX in 184, MX in 176. Both are sharp, energetic, and precise. But the MX99 has another level of smoothness, especially at speed. The FX holds an edge and is stable but I can feel the terrain and imperfections under it, especially at speed. Doesn’t bother me but it’s there. The MX is silk, edges always dug in and cutting smoothly through.

    Last season I was on my 2016 Stormrider 88s one day and there is a great story behind that but after I was done skiing I noticed a gash along my edge that was at least 15 inches long.. I thought I was going to have dig them a shallow grave.. I did get them fixed and they still work great.. They hold an amazing edge.. As a racer I am trying to learn how to pivot or do the skidded turns.. I am pretty good at doing it with my 2019 Stormrider 105s.. Normally when I get to slow areas around a lot of people I just snowplow.. Last season I demoed some Stormrider 95s and before I even got on snow I realized they were blown out at the heal.. When I returned them they had another pair of 95s that were blown out at the heal and a pair of 88s that were blown out at the heal.. I did talk to someone who had a pair of 102s that were blown out at the heal.. Did they fix that for this season?

    It's hilarious how so many people are showing up to the resort to ski groomers all day with powder skis! LOL. I had some dumbass kid at the ski shop tell me a 95mm waist ski was for carving!! LOL. They seem to be oblivious to the true experts that rocket by them gracefully, while they are so busy "carving" with thier fat skis.

    I skied the 2023 95 out West last spring. They were awful in the bumps, but great for cranking GS turns in crud off-piste. I'm not totally shite in bumps; I did my time as a Bump F*g on Outer Limits at Killington. Anyway, how does anyone think the Stormriders are good in bumps? They are like taking FIS GS skis through moguls!

    Greetings from ski holidays in Livigno 🇮🇹. I have got Stormrider 88 previous 2021 model. I agree with you: you can carve, skid, do long and short radius, some off piste, bumps, fast, effortless, damping terrain. They are very light. I am 58 and ski mainly in Alps. I usually alter them with Stockli Laser SC for more radical carving but this is tiring. If I want to ski in style all day then I have Stormrider 88.

    • @SkiandBikeMagazine
      @SkiandBikeMagazine 7 месяцев назад

      Thanks for your take on these, irideaduck939. We must admit that we are always swayed by value when doing tests and with that in mind, we stand bythe fact that (for the money) these are pretty damn good skis. But yes, "does everything well" and "does nothing particularly well" has a lot to do with ski tuning, the right length, and binding positioning. Please keep following us and let us know your thoughts on skis that you might have tried.

    Intermediate Skier - mid 40’s - 5’-10” 200lbs. Was on Elan Explore 82 skis for 7 years - my first and only pair. Needed a big time upgrade felt these skis were Holding me back in getting better. I consider myself an intermediate skier, comfortable on blues and blacks. Most skiing done out west No so big on trees or moguls but will ride them occasionally I am still working on my carving technique still skidding down steeps, and love the occasional speed - have topped out at 46 MPH - I don’t consider myself an aggressive skier not getting any younger but I plan to improve my carving skills this year With practice. I didn’t want to get a ski that with time I would eventually overcome and stay stuck with I wanted a ski I would eventually work my skills and techniques into as I gain more experience and settle into it nicely. I don’t plan on buying another pair of skis in a loooong time as I am well invested in the Mantra M6. I did a lot of research on it and i understand it’s an overpowering and demanding ski. I am looking forward to the challenge. I am not concerned about the weight of the skis as I am in good shape and have strong legs turning won’t be an issue or fatigue. I am excited to purchase . Did I make a good choice?? honest thoughts? I am Ready to invest 👍👍
