Using birch trees as a privacy screen
Betula Pendula - Birch trees
In this video, Darragh talks about the advantages of using birch trees as a screen around properties over some of the other common choices people look for.
Although the birch loses its leaves in winter, it reveals a beautiful white-silvery bark which makes it a really nice option and it also benefits the wildlife. 🌱🌱

Brown tips on beech hedges

The brown tips that can appear on the tops of beech hedges is caused by woolly aphid. Darragh explains in this video that although it is common, it is easy to rectify. Beech is generally a hardy plant and as it grows and gets stronger it can often fight off things like woolly aphid by itself. Similar to the our last video where we prune the Laurel, we will start trimming the Contoneaster franchetii around 3-4 months after planting. This is important if you want to grow a full hedge without any gaps. Trimming the hedge will encourage side shoots to grow and start filling out. Sprinkle some 10-10-20 to encourage further growth.

The Laurel Hedge: 3 months later
Просмотров 6 тыс.4 года назад
Today we are re-visiting the Laurel hedge we fed back in March. We can see the quality of the hedge has improved, maybe not as much as we would have liked with the hard frost we got in April/May. This week we are giving it some 10-10-20 to give it a boost and after this feed it should be ok until next Spring. This will improve the colour and give it the nourishment it needs.

Hiding an eyesore with Contoneaster microphyllus
Просмотров 264 года назад
A great tip for anyone looking to cover up an eyesore in their garden. The Contoneaster microphyllus climber is a great solution to covering up anything that may be unsightly. It is very easy to grow and has a lovely white flower in summer and red berries in the autumn. If in time, you decide to remove this from the area, it is extremely easy to do so, unlike ivy.
