STONELIFTING SHORT FILM | an Ancient Irish Tradition
A short film dedicated to David Keohan (aka "Indiana Stones"), who descended down to County Kerry, Ireland, in an attempt to "get the wind" under a stone that hasn't been lifted in over 100 years.
David has been featured on the Blindboy Podcast, the Tommy Tiernan Show, among major media outlets across the globe.
Lifting stones are heavy natural stones which people are challenged to lift, proving their strength. They are common throughout Northern Europe, particularly Iceland (where they are referred to as steintökin), Ireland, Scotland, Basque Country, Faroe Islands, Wales, North West England centered around Cumbria, Switzerland, Southern Germany centered around Bavaria, Austria and also in...

ANCIENT IRELAND - A Solo Bikepacking Adventure
Просмотров 2,6 тыс.9 месяцев назад
I’ve just landed home, after an off-road biking journey through Cork & Kerry in Ireland. Keen to follow some of the ancient trails and pathways, I’ve spent the last few weeks pouring over old maps and aerial shots. They lead me well. The trip centred around the Paps of Danu, an unmistakable and highly sacred pair of mountains near the county bounds. Danu (or Anu) was the ancient Irish goddess o...
BEARA by Chris Barrett (World Nomads Submission)

On a recent camping trip around the region of Beara on Ireland’s west coast, I pondered the thought of a living being landing from space and witnessing this area. I thought about how they would be enamoured by the natural beauty, how the area would capture their attention - in stark contrast to their darkened world beyond our planet. I felt at this moment, a responsibility to capture this area ...
ADVENTURE OF A LIFETIME | Sea Kayaking the Kerry Cliffs, Ireland
Просмотров 65Год назад
An epic days paddling from St. Finian’s Bay to Portmagee via Puffin Island. The Skellig Islands were on view throughout the day, in some interesting conditions. Sea Kayaking in Ireland is one of the most incredible experiences you could imagine.
My favorite part about this tradition is that many of these stones have names and are kept in their place. I heard in some places the law forbids their displacement!
Irish culture must be preserved!
Very true!
This film certainly delivered on its premise.
@@irvinetam3454 Thank you!
Ok I'd watch hours of this. I hunted heirloom apples in the southern United States for years just like David hunts stones. And I lift stones.
Thanks so much Pete! What do you mean by heirloom apples by the way?
@@Chris_barrett_photo Old nearly lost or extinct varieties. Just like you are talking about finding stones in old texts, you can do the same with apples.
@@petehalupka1 Very interesting. In this case, would you find the Apple trees?
This is such an Awesome video 🤙🏼
@@Scorpy2303 Thanks very much! Really appreciate it
Great video, I never knew that Stone Lifting was a Thing! I've done lots of stone picking ! :)
@@richardlynam2007 Thanks Richard! I’ve also had to pick stones from a field, although I couldn’t see the benefit as a young lad!
Happy to have found your channel and moved by your content it’s beautiful. I absolutely love that part of the world and it’s very meaningful to me . thank you
Absolutely beautiful ! Thank you
Thanks very much!
Great
Thanks Lucas!
I'll bet that if they put a handle on that stone Anatoly could lift it with one hand!
We’ll see!
Excellent!! A longer and more detailed documentary of the Indiana Stones mission and vision for the future of stone lifting is needed!!
Thanks a million! Hopefully we’ll get more content out there for you all
Brilliant! Great doc!
Thanks Stevie!
I named My gym I made Lil Wicklow. Only fire, stones, logs, chains, rope to train with. Wicklow is the most ancestral place in Ireland, barbarian bloodline runs thick
Great stuff!
Outstanding video. The tragic loss of this Pagan treasures might be the price we had to pay for our modern civilization
Go get it, boys! Well done.
Thanks very much!
Great documentary. I only wish it was 34 minutes instead of 4 minutes!
Thanks very much! Maybe we'll plan more for the future
Does it have to stay flat, or could you lift it standing up on its edge? I build natural stone walls, and that's how I'd attempt it...
No lifting on flat is better for putting the back out.😂
David attempted both ways but found this one easier. Hope this helps!
Top notch work, all. Thank you for sharing.
Many thanks!
I could see this becoming a regular 20 minute feature on the various stones. Be good to see you fellows take trips out based on David's finds. John Rooney's map would really come alive with that. @Netflix, here is some quality content.
Thank you very much! I really appreciate your comment, it means a lot. All the best, Chris
Fantastic
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you!
Great Job!
Thank you! Cheers!
Class!!!!!!!
Thanks Conor!
This is brilliant, well done.
Thanks very much Andy!
Good to see. Keep these uploads coming? Is horseshoe throwing still popular in places?
Thank you! I wouldn’t see a lot of it my way, but there was a lot of sheaf tossing when I was younger alright
@@Chris_barrett_photo aye, my granda was big into it here in the north of Ireland. I think my mother has some of his shoes and trophies.
Lovely film. Well done all.
Thank you very much!
Iconic!
Thanks lad!

Great video chris, i can't even begin to imagine what a spectacular feeling it must be to open a tent in the morning and see such beauty all around wow, im bikepacking from manchester to ballybunion in august in memory of my dad who was a proud kerryman and your video has inspired me so much thank you so much. 🍀
Thanks very much John, I appreciate it! That sounds like a great adventure, fair play to you. It's certainly a great way to honour your father. I'm from North Kerry, so if you've any questions on the area feel free to drop me a message on Instagram @chris_barrett_photo. Unfortunately, I'm abroad for the year, otherwise I'd love to give you a hand in person!
Excellent. Is more of Dan Cronin available to listen to anywhere online?
Hi Conor, here's an excellent written piece on CCD and Dan Cronin voicesfromthedawn.com/city-and-the-paps/

Great to hear!

7:27 the drivetrain switched to the left side of the bike? Interesting video all together!
That’s a great spot, Bill! God bless your eyesight. I’ll let you in on a secret, it’s no fancy modification - only that the image is mirrored!
