Cable Ties: The default device to detain people | Zip Ties
The cable tie was invented in 1958 by Maurus C. Logan while working for an electrical company called Thomas & Betts. The idea for the cable tie came to him while touring the Boeing aircraft manufacturer facility in 1956 and observing the labor-intensive and specialized manual process required to wire their airplanes. Maurus spent the next couple of years experimenting with various tools and materials before filing the patent for the Ty-Rap cable tie in 1958. The success of the cable tie can be attributed to its design, which allows for it to be easily and securely fastened. Today, there are more than 45 companies worldwide manufacturing billions of cable ties every year. In addition to th...

You don’t need a screw driver to unscrew the flint, use the case lip to unscrew it, you don’t need ANY tools, can carry as many flints as you want, they can got for 10+ years without cleaning, the lighter and a bottle of fluid is all you need. I have a big zippo collection and my oldest one is from 1963 and guess what…it still runs like brand new, even has the original asbestos wick that looks brand new, for $10 these last a life time, how many disposable lighters will you buy in your life?
May I ask where are you from? Your accent sounds familiar
That is not the lighter that inspired Zippos, sorry bud

You can also turn the cap into a whistle via blowing into it with the clip on the bottom.
I have been using fountain pens, I bought a few Bic ballpoint pens to try after watching a few of these video of it's history. I would say it is mind blowing to consider that this invention has improved literacy rate! In terms of writing experience, modern fountain pen writes smooth like driving a continental car, while this pen felt like a truck over a beach.
To me the Bic Crystal is the perfect pen, I wish I had one every time I needed to write something, but people keep "borrowing" them and not returning them.
Bic pens they are amazing When i was at school , Molin tried to compete, selling cheaper to my school, but Bic's quality was superior, and today we no longer hear about its competitors, just Bic continues with that quality we are used to. eheh 🖊...
I like them too and am happy to learn, that they put beautiful refillable ones in silver and gold. I'm going to purchase one in silver, yay!😅🎉.

Please enjoy and have very nice writings. One of my favorite pastimes is practicing ancient calligraphy, with beautiful letters. Now it's better if I can practice with BIC Thank you very much miss Mira Belle
The BIC M10 is really a true classic pen like the BIC Cristal. I've had bad experiences with it at the office, as has a colleague of mine. They are very fragile in the center where the clear part begins and often broke in the middle when writing. I always put a lot of pressure on a ballpoint pen, just like my colleague, but that should have no consequences. I also write differently than how people should write according to schools. Namely with the thumb under my index finger, which gives you more support while writing and prevents the pen from shooting out of your hand, which bothered me a lot as a child from the second year of primary school on. Here in the Netherlands you learn to write with a pen from the second grade of primary school and you are only allowed to use a pencil in the first grade. The button also popped back while writing and therefore the filling, which I have seen not only with my colleague but also with others. The BIC Cristal is also a classic pen and of course there I didn't experience those problems. On the other hand during my school time I avoided them cos During my school years I avoided them because I almost always had a BIC Cristal pen that suddenly stopped writing. I then switched to mostly refillable cheap pens in which you could put refills from mostly the German Schneider and no more problems!!!!!!!!!!!
great video. Deserves more views :D
I used Zippo lighters for years. They were reliable, easy to use, and easy to maintain. They were rugged, handling the abuse I threw at them during my work day. I'm sure they'd have lasted longer, but I always set my lighters down and forgot them. This was one of those things that "just worked."
Indeed, among many other good things, we can always count on their reliability!
Impressive information. Do you know name of the ball point pen with blue plastic body in the 1960's era? It has an end cap white in colour. I was seven years old at that time. My late father often used this pen in his office. I remember it was not BIC. I just couldnt recall name of the ball point pen. Appreciate you can inform me if you had the information. I think the tip is made of metal and not plastic like those seen in BIC. The shape of the tip is quite similar to BIC tip. Thank you.
It sounds like you might be describing the Paper Mate pen from the 1960s.
@@EhsanYaseen8 Thank you for your reply, do u have picture for the pen?
I have a can of coca cola here. It has a small u notch other than the regular drinking tab. I cant find what its for.
That is a very good question and, to be honest, I don't know it either. However, I assume it allows for the tab to lay flat when it is pulled back. Let's see if any of the other viewers know the reason for it...
I have a ton of fancy pens, but I always go back to my reliable Bic Cristal 1.6mm. My favorite writing instrument, hands down.
I like the Bold 1.6mm but it dries out faster then the classic one.
All you have to do is either buy the pocket tank for fluid refills which comes with a flint holder and a tool to open the screw for the flint which you should never over tighten, orrr you can simply keep a flint in the hole in the felt pad and simply use the lid when the insert is out of the lighter to use as a tool to open the screw. I carry a pocket tank with the flint and also I have a flint in the hole of the felt pad in all of my zippos. It’s a bulletproof everyday carry. I LOVE MY ZIPPOS
Most people’s greatest criticism of Zippos is “they leak” They only leak if you overfill them, which most boot greens straight outta basic do. Don’t overfill it & it won’t leak, if you overfill it it’s GUARANTEED to leak. And if you extra worried about it, all you have to do is buy literally a one dollar sealing pad that also comes with a extra flint which is the second greatest criticism of the Zippo is it’s flint
Weird. I put just enough fuel in one and didn't use it for a week but when I picked it up it barely lit. Because there was almost no fuel left in it
☝🏻Zippos we’re also heavily used in WW2, in fact most servicemen would refill them with gasoline. Very interesting
The best thing about Zippos is that I don't need to buy stupid plastic lighters all the time. The worst is that I need to fuel it every morning. But if you have a Zippo and learn to use it properly, you can use it a whole day for smoking. Super-easy to assemble or disassemble and you DON'T need tools to open it. A simple coin can help.
Zippos are very reliable and they are easy to use and have great quality!
Hi Matthew, I couldn't agree more.

Hi Čičiras, I really appreciate your comment and feedback.
Fantastic video.
Hi Corn Fed, we really appreciate your feedback.
Nice overview of the SAK's history, but the title and content is misleading. I mean it's a 5min video and just the last minute or talks about the Swiss Army Knife in space. Also, you really did not explain HOW the SAK got to space...
Hi Josh FA, you have got some good points there. I'll make sure to consider them for my next videos. Really appreciate your feedback.
How'd he open the tools with astronaut gloves on?
That's a very good question IMP 22. I'm not entirely sure but it is something worth researching. Thank you very much for your contribution.
Trams should have never been removed
Hey Joseph., that's a very good point! Nowadays, they seem to be making a comeback as one of the preferred transportation methods in most European city centers.
@@desicons2005 I still think it's the most efficient ways of moving the most people per area. And the tracks can be inside the pavement
@@JessicaFEREM Yes, I agree with you. The only downside is that the tram lines get quite slippery when it rains which might influence cars but especially, motorbikes.
@@JessicaFEREM Trams should be used more in cities with limited or no car access but outside of a city a tram is basically useless
@@Z38_US it sucks that it's basically illegal to design America like cities in Europe where it's designed to be human and bike and train first instead of car first, since roads and cars are unsustainable for most cities

Hi Grahame, it must have been a challenge, that's for sure. ;) Thank you very much!
These Safety Razors are better than the over Priced plastic rubbish 5 blades Razors that some people buy Anyway great video
Couldn't agree more with yourself there, Green Erick! Thank you very much for the feedback as well.
I am a bit unsure, though. The ink doesn't flow nicely on these pens. They constantly remind me of their cheapness.
Hi, Sriharsha C V thank you very much for contributing to this discussion. However, I do disagree with you. As an avid user of these pens, I find that as long as you use them frequently, they do not tend to dry out or stop writing.
Even I disagree with you,,,, no hard starts even after 10 years here in tropical India 🇮🇳,,, my favourite ball point pen.
How are the tabs (openers) made?
Hi Shella, to be honest, I have never researched that. However, I'll make sure to cover just the can tabs in one of our next videos. Really appreciate your feedback.
To informative for any one to appreciate? Thanks for the info and your time.
Hi Gardner Webb, thank you very much for your kind message.
Bought a pair of their "recycled" for £10. Recycled out of what, I have no idea. Worst scissors ever. Seen sharper plasticine. Instantly blunted despite me keeping them "for best", so sharpened them. No sparks when sharpening. I've been a clothing machine engineer since '76 so I've sharpened the best and the worst thousands of times. Absolute rubbish, will never buy that brand again.
Hi John, I'm really sorry to hear that. I wasn't even aware that they had "recycled" scissors.
A nice pen but produces a lot of plastic waste.
Hi Rafael55, unfortunately I have to agree with you however, I am almost certain that BIC is already working towards a more sustainable alternative material to be used in their pens.
@@desicons2005 I hope so. I would like to see them sell a refill for their pens and accept the return of the empty ones, so the plastic shell does not end up in the trash. They should handle the recycling. Same goes for the rest of the pen companies.
@@rafael55 Yes, that is a pretty good idea. I think that in the future plastic product companies will be obliged/incentivised to do that anyway.
engineers need to study bic.
Hi E.W., I couldn't agree more! People tend to overlook these simple, yet very complex everyday products.
Good little documentary buddeh
Thank you very much Zippo Fanatic 77 Outdoors, really appreciate it!
I have 2 pairs for 20 years and they are still sharp as ever. No complaints here.
Hi Deborah, thank you for that. It's good to know the quality of the products is still there.
What is the razor in the thumbnail called?
Hi Hunter, to be honest I'm not entirely sure about the specific model name; however, I do know that it is a vintage model from Gillette.
It's a Gillette Fat Handle Tech.
The lighter did NOT improve upon IMCO's design. In fact, Blaisdell's redesign made the Zippo's fluid evaporate faster - that's a step back, not an improvement. The IMCO lighters you show in the video (the IMCO Two-in-one and the IMCO IFA) were not the lighters Blaisdell copied - that was the IMCO 2000. Also, all of the earliest IMCO lighters could be used one-handed. Finally, Blaisdell made his design MORE complicated by making it necessary to use a screwdriver to change the flint. Zippo lighters were, and still are, overhyped garbage lighters.
Hi Prometheus, thank you very much for your feedback.
I would agree they're overhyped and overpriced but they still are kool.... yeah they arnt practical because of the fuel evaporation. But let's remember they were pacifically designed for smokers not for prepping/survival use. Each their own...... that old IMCOS reminds me I still needa get the Douglas field S great light no draw backs
@@spwan10 If they evaporate fast, thenn they're not useful for smokers either. A smoker might not mind that his lighter is evaporating fast, but it's still costing money that doesn't need to be spent.
@Prometheus alot of people dont realise zippos dont come ready to use. For the best fuel efficiency, you need to pull the cotton out and rewick it properly before filling for the first time.
@@johnredcorn2476 I've been collecting lighters (including Zippos) for around 20 years, and I know how to properly set up a Zippo lighter for fuel longevity. I'm currently in the middle of a test that includes a properly rewicked all-brass Zippo (supposedly the best quality Zippos have the tightest tolerances, so they don't evaporate as fast): the Zippo gave up after 27 days - the shortest of the 6 lighters I'm testing. The last remaining lighter in this test is a 1920 IMCO IFA, which is still going strong at 55 days. In a previous test, a regular non-brass Zippo lighter lasted 24 days, while an IMCO Triplex Junior lighter lasted 54 days. The problem isn't that I don't know how to properly set up a Zippo lighter. The problem is that Zippo lighters are garbage.
Windproof is about the only thing Zippo does well. It's expensive, it leaks like a sieve, doesn't keep its fuel for more than a week or so, needs tools to change flints, doesn't light reliably because the wheel gets dirty easily, and it gets hot fast because it's made of brass rather than steel. If it was used as body armor, it might work, but as a lighter it really is a piece of garbage.
Hi Prometheus, thank you for providing your point of view on that.
You couldn’t be more incorrect…keep buying Chinese crap.
It doesn't matter if you don't mind and have fuel. All you need is a screwdriver. I think they're far superior for a soldier in particular because unlike the disposable ones, you can keep them in service for as long as you are out in the field. I think zippos are certainly more of a forever survival lighter which produces these "cons" as a side effect of its longevity (leaks or not). You could maintain and pass on a Zippo to multiple generations.
Pros and cons are a factor of life. It lasts forever, but needs care...
@@christmasarchiveinc Yes, if you don't care that it leaks like a sieve, you're golden. Personally, I think a lighter that you can't even rely on to keep its fuel for a week is a liability. But you go ahead and use that piece of garbage if you want.
