Immerse yourself in my personal 'classic' vehicles include a 1967 Morris 1000 and a 1978 MG Midget with Rover k series power (1.4). My 'future' classics include a 1998 Volkswagen golf GTI track car, and a 2003 Jaguar S type R.
I do have a habit of buying cars on a whim so others do come and go but this little collection is pretty much a forever collection.
On my channel i share my progress working on my classic and future classic cars. There will also be some general vlogging at car shows, meet ups and everyday drives. I try to upload my video's once per week so be sure to subscribe and i hope to see you at some car shows in the future.

The break between christmas and new year seemed like a great time to knuckle down and get some welding done on my 1986 Jaguar XJ6.
Things didn't turn out great however when i found some poor, previous repairs covering some pretty terminal corrosion.
This XJ is one of the last Series 3's with a straight 6 XK engine, the 4.2 to be specific. I have never owned an XK engined car so i am looking forward to the quirks of this engine and also excited for the 'Magic Carpet' ride they are so well known for.

TH350 Gearbox OIL and FILTER change - How hard can it be?
I’ve done this today with my ezibleed and all seemed fine. I’ve still got a low pedal, any ideas? It’s driving me mad. The main res is holding fluid. I had good pressure, the brake fluid came through nice and clear, I’ve fitted new discs, pads, callipers, and brake hoses all around with new parking brakes too.
What car is it? Some cars have an extra bleed nipple on the master cylinder. That caught me out on my S type R
@ It’s a BMW x3 e83 2009. I don’t think there’s an extra bleed nipple but will check 👍🏼
just did this myself and it wasn't exactly fun but not super hard. the original pan was leaking because of a few cracks at a few pan bolt holes. got a pan, 6L of liquimoly fluid and a pump for the bottles. followed the video and drained probably 4.5L out of the pan, it was def low from leaking. on initial fill I could only fit about 4L back in, ran it through gears and got about .5 more in then got it up to temp and it took at least another L while up to temp so I have about .5L left over. THANKS for the vids and all that UK rust makes me want to cry... my 110k mile Las Vegas STR has ZERO rust anywhere!
Thanks for watching. Glad the video was helpful. Oh i wish to be somewhere the cars could stay rust free lol
Oh dear, you need a Klaxon horn to make her day!
That would make her jump lol
When you are saying water- you mean coolant or does steel seal not work with coolant
Yes i do mean coolant/antifreeze
Aww, that’s so cute
She really is
I converted many cars from dynamo to alternator in my time as a auto electrician. Now retired but still miss working on the older cars.
Thanks for watching
I have a P1582, P1410 and a P0174. My mechanic says it could be related to throttle body?
Could be
Can I use this if I have Coolant in Engine Oil...? Some say not to because it will get into your engine so thats why I am asking.
I would think so but just make sure you change your oil afterwards
Could be burning brake fluid from a leaky servo hence white smoke and sweet smell.
Could be. Thanks for watching
I'd put a small magnet inside the socket.
Good idea. Thanks for the tip
Loving the Morris minor videos I am going to get one hopefully soon
Thanks for watching
My mechanic told me to leave it for 4-5hrs idle????😢
Thats too long
Imma have to do this myself for my XJ the dealership is charging me $1300 and all the other mechanics won’t take it
It's really not too hard if you're mechanically minded
Great video I bought the coolant heat mod but it did not come with the sender, where would I get one of these, please?
I think i got it all on amazon
Does this work for jaguar xf 2009 v8
Yes I believe its the same engine
Well done 👏
Thanks
Hi Mark, great wee video! Do you know if your approach would work with a positive earth vehicle?
Yes, it should do with the right gauges
Excellent video Mark. I have a 2.5L petrol S Type and over the years, I sometimes get a gearbox fault message if I drive in heavy traffic i.e. a lot of stop/start. The message clears if I shut off the engine so not permanent. This last week, when driving off, I'm getting a large shudder/clunk sometimes when the car changes gear so I think an oil change is in order (never been done - 20 year old car!). I have two questions please. First. do you think it's possible to do the change without access to a hoist (just vehicle ramps) and second, is there an easy way to identify the replacement filter required? I'm also going to need to source a tool to remove the drain plug!
Yes it should be easy enough to change on vehicle ramps. The drain plug too is just an allen but so shouldn't be too difficult to source. The filter/oil pan should be the same and easy to find
@@MarksWheels Thanks Mark - I'll give it a go.
Surely that vehicle is beyond saving ?? Can't imagine it being in any way economical to repair
Unfortunately so. I think it will make its way to the banger track
What’s the chances of that O ring failing again..
Knowing Jaguar, pretty likely in 10 or so years lol
@ wow, yea my STR has been such a problem car
Hopefully, this changes the positive earth to negative is this true?
My car is a late car so was already negative earth. If you want to convert yours, it shouldnt be too difficult. Have a google search and there are plenty of explanations on how to do it.
Jesus , i thought i was watching a video about the Titanic.
Lol
It's for the track now when previous repairs have rotted out says it all really typical old jag get bodged and bodged some more
Yeah, such a shame
You can repair anything but this really is beyond it .
Thanks for watching
Watching brings back nightmare memories... I used to be a welder at Dundee harbour ... and everyone was at me to weld their cars come MOT time ..
Lol, it's a handy skill to have
Aww just saw the rusty unibody loose and build a frame out of 2x4 box steel and the LS will just fall right in.
Now that would make an awesome project!
the only use for that big pile of junk is being used as a stock car ,racing
Unfortunately so!
Thanks for this video, Mark. I feel for you mate. I don't think there are many cars built since the 70's and earlier that have been treated sympathetically by the British winters. I am seeing a lot of cars from this era that are needing major structural repairs. Porsches, Ferraris, BM's, they are all susceptible. I used to work freelance at the weekends when I was in college many years ago doing mainly structural body repairs on mainly British cars. I just really enjoyed gas welding and fabrication. The cars all rotted like fury even back then. I have often been tempted to buy a 911 but they are just too risky. It is difficult to see what work has been done or to what standard. I just have to watch videos like this to help me think rationally and tell myself to leave them well alone.
Thanks for watching
...Yup, its turned out the way I thought when you first examined it. But there is a big plus: the paintwork is ok, and the replacement sills were properly welded in more-or less. Leaves you with the task of making up repair panels for the chassis hookup points. And its a doable job, despite it looking bad initially, once the rot is cut out there the job appears only half as daunting. I have welded up cars much worse than this, and would not hesitate to turn this one into a (if not perfect) good daily driver.
This is why i was really tempted to repair it. It's not a bad job, lots of flat panels but its the time required and somewhere to store it that i am lacking at the moment. Hopefully the next Jag will be slightly less rusty lol
I have a 2007 Jaguar S-Type 2720 Auto,I got a warning of restricted performance as well, but after a short stop it has never come back on.Today I have gone to start it,and have smoke or what looks like clear smoke coming from the hood.I have topped up coolant, oil levels seems fine(I have no warning lights on dash,or messages). The smoke seems pretty bad once the car has stopped, and engine off.I have only had the car 3 months, and I know nothing about cars.Would you have any idea's please,I can't get to garage as everywhere is fully booked for a few weeks, and need my car for my journeys to work and back.
That would be hard to diagnose without seeing it. Can you see where the smoke is coming from?
@@MarksWheels Thank you for the reply..I will start it up tomorrow morning with the hood up and see where it's coming from, and let you know.
@@MarksWheels I have called the RAC out,the smoke is coming from the right hand side(passenger side) underneath somewhere. The smoke is filtering out by the headlight and that side.
Time for it to go to the scrap yard in the sky I’ve owned many XJ6 saloons and an XJC and a two XJS 3.6 and a V12 one all in the late 70s early 80s and they were rotten with rust then shame as they were fantastic cars
I've had many later XJ's and like you, a V12 and a 3.6 XJS and loved them all.
That’s rotten pretty bad mate. Happy rebuilding!
Thanks bud
It’s quite a shame about the condition but hardly surprising 👍👍🇦🇺
I know. It was a risk buying the car but i knew breaking it was always a possibility
Shame about the series 3! 😢 Make the next one a Jagggg XJ40
It may well be 😉
@ Surely you can buy prefabricated inner arches and sills for the S3? In any event, at worst case, an XJ40 is a lot more modern than the S3 and easier to work on. I love 🧡 my XJ40.
No problems plenty of news paper and fiber glass stuffed in the hole's a good body filler and a good red lead under coat then a rubber paint over last for years.😳🍻👍
Lol, i have purchased cars that have had this method used before
@MarksWheels 😂😂😂👍
It's way too far gone to ever be a good safe car but it'll yield plenty of good bits!
Yeah. I don't think i'd ever be happy driving around with the little one in it
Rubbish, it's normal rust for any 80s car, it needs a good amount of work, but it's all sills , wheel Wells, valances, jacking points. Every 80s jag is exactly the same as this.
@@morganmcdonagh2663 Yes, scrap!
@@MarksWheels Don't give up though. If you really want a Series III XJ, bring one in from the USA hot states like Texas. Knackered engine, sun destroyed interior etc but rot free.
Scrap that
Thanks for watching
No dont
I suppose it is hard to refuse a man holding a gun to your head, if it gets to much for you ask if he would lend you the gun.
Gutted for you lovely car I've got a jag sovereign 4.2 1985 rot around both windscreens has been sitting for 3 years. Dreading to think what I will find after your video.
I think it would be best to jump on it sooner rather than later before it gets too bad
Was hoping based on previous videos that the rust was containable, but absolutely gutting to see that it’s so terminal. Hoping that at least this XJ can help save other example examples.
Yep, thats the plan
I would head for the hills it’s only the holes holding the car together
Lol thanks for watching
Hi Mark. Gutted to see this. I did elude to this on the video when you said you were outing the STR for this car. I really hope you can work through it all and get it sorted mate. Looks like a very steep mountain of work. Still following.
Thanks Leigh. Me too but I knew this was going to be a risk. Sometimes you luck out and sometimes you end up with a lemon 🍋
Hi Mark - would you consider having a go at my S Type?? My gearbox is not behaving ….. I’ve got a few cars, but I like the Jag. If it doesn’t go well I’ll just scrap it. Like you, I’ve spent so much on it - I’m already well out of pocket, I love the S Type
Yeah, it probably just needs a transmission oil and filter change. Thats usually the best place to start
cmon mate, it isnt that bad, i would take it on.
I'd carry on with it if I have the time and space but i can't have it sitting in the corner for a year like I did with the S Type R.
Here , here, its a project but it's all relative....if this was a mk2 jag it would be really good
The one thing that scares me on cars is rust I have sold so many cars in the past that I would have loved to have kept but after finding rust unless you can catch it before it gets bad even then it is a never ending welding and patching up it never bothered me any Mechanical problems engines gearboxes etc can be repaid or replaced with reconditioned or good second hand one the rest is just fit new parts as they were out people who live in worm dry countries do not know how lucky they are like in parts of America you see 40 year old pickup truck just used as daily drivers its mind blowing to us in this country.
It's especially worse with british or Japanese cars from this sort of time period i think
I would consider this on "wider base" sort of speaking. There is a lot of completely out of logic YT channels out there, where people's are working on projects which by the way, will never pay for it self and that by far. Still they do it. Why? Because of YT and the hunger of us somehow lazy individuals out there, hunger for unfolded story of fights of the underdogs against hopeless, mighty and hard fighting projects of all types and sizes. My most recent one is "Ship happens" but I have watched lot's of YT channels as Acorn to Arabella, Tally Ho and of course lot's of cars enthusiast's building nice cars from rusty ones, etc. etc. etc. And.. some are making extra money while doing it!!!
Thanks for watching
I've saved a lot worse, my latest has taken over 6 years to get to the reassembly stage, but hasn't cost a lot, just some scrap offcuts, some gas and a roll of wire.
Wow 6 years! That's dedication
@@MarksWheels I'm 2-and-a-half years into rebuilding a rotten, ultra-mileage 2006 Peugeot Expert that's basically worthless, other than irreplaceable sentimental value to me. I'm probably not even halfway through it yet. Thanks to RUclips, my welding and fabrication skills have advanced from rubbish to mediocre, which is a bonus.
