GX470 Hells Gate Rollover, Poison Spider, Hells Revenge, Wipeout Hill
A short highlight reel of some of my GX470 wheeling vids in Moab the last couple years.
For those that aren’t aware Moab had a historical flooding storm maybe a month ago. The entire town has sand all over in places it never has. That means the trails have way more sand than normal on them. I’ve never seen so much sand on the slick rock in a couple decades. Most the time it’s not that much of a difference but for an obstacle like this it has a large affect as it made it so hard to get traction and then to hold the line. I’d keep slipping down into the crevice.

Footage taken in September 2021. My rig is a 2006 Lexus GX470. It has a 3” coil lift that includes Vated suspension from Fat Bobs, Eibach coils up front, OME coils in the rear, and SPC UCA’s. Wheels are the factory TRD Pro 4Runner wheels and tires are BF Goodrich 285/70R17 (~33”).

For those that watched my 4Runner video in Moab I sold that rig and took the GX470 I also owned and lifted it to make it my new rig. This was my first time out with it as I get accustomed to it as it feel so much different than my 4Runner did. I also don’t have a rear locker on the GX so I’m getting more comfortable with the ATRAC.

This was footage taken over Labor Day weekend 2019.
Gx470 is too tall to be crawling rocks like that. Rollover risk
I gladly accept the risk. Which btw has turned out to be negligible.
Appreciate the video !
I’ve dipped mine alot deeper
I have this same truck and wheels. What kind of tires did you go with (size/brand)?
285/70R17 BFG KO2’s
Just perfect!!! Take care of the rust, or the rust will take care of the truck...! ✌
That's a Lexus not a Toyota!!! Jk jk jk it's a joke! 😅
как бы я хотел переехать жить в Юту
водитель очень не осторожный
Eww dirty! j/k What is badass little Prado.
I’m leaving to Cali from rust belt Minnesota in a couple months to find myself a nice GX or LX 470 and a sc430. Still not 100% which I want to get. My aunt that lives out there has the sequoia, uncle has a 80s 4 runner, brother a 2021 Tacoma and my ex GF got a 05 gx470 because I turned her onto them. I’ve always loved Toyota/Lexus. I’ve bought and sold cars on the side since before I had my license and out of the 150+ cars I’ve owned in some capacity Toyota/Lexus never let me down in a major way. The only other cars I know I can rely are the old Buicks with the 3800 and Volvos (which I’ve owned many) with the B series engines. When it comes to SUVs though Toyota hands down.
We seem to have lots in common. I have a family full of Toyotas and Lexus as well and I also have a Volvo XC90!
Nobody in California calls it “Cali.” You sound like a fool for saying that.
Great driving an impressive rig. And no bueno on BFG ATs for smooth rock, Apparently.
Nice man! I’m looking into purchasing one of these.
I’m buying one pristine condition to keep it stuck and unmolested 😂
So fucking glad I got one of these ...mines a 5 speed
What wheels and tire specs please? I want those rims on a 285/70 R17 tires without rubbing the original upper arm without tires sticking out the Fenders. Maybe a +5mm offset?
These are 285/70R17 and come with +4 offset and clear my aftermarket UCA’s.
@@chasechapman4689 sorry to bother but do you think it will clear an original UCA? And how much clearance from de UCA to the tire do you have in MILLIMITERS APPROXIMATELY? Thanks in advance.
@@CristianAPrimoATM the amount of clearance from UCA I really don’t know. My understanding is if you do anything over 2.5” lift you’ll need aftermarket UCA’s.
I have one, same color, same year, mechanical A1. I have loaded it with up to 25 sheets of 8mm plywood in the luggage rack. I load it with up to 5 sticks of firewood inside. This 4runner is a beast. Greeting from Patagonia Chile.
Beautiful 😍. I've gotta white '04 and I want the same wheel + tire combo. Looks really nice 👍🏽
What tire pressure were you running?
Kinda high at 22 but that was on purpose to split the difference as I was on highway and on trail off again on again all weekend. Didn’t want the hassle of going up and down 3-4 times a day. It suffices just fine.
Beauty
Is your rear differential still intact?
Haha thankfully yes. I’m sure it’s felt it’s time was close on some of these.
Easy work 👏 nicely done
How does it ride on the highway with the lift?
Incredible. It’s so smooth and comfortable but also tall.
@@chasechapman4689 Thanks.
Love the verhicle. I bought a low mileage one recently and will save your video. Are your alloys OEM 4runner or aftermarket? Also, do you have spacers?
Thanks! The wheels are OEM 4Runner that I bought from the dealer. And I have no spacers as this wheel provides enough offset to clear my UCA’s. One of the benefits to this wheel as most stock Toyota wheels would not clear my UCA’s and would require spacers.
Your drive through Poison spyder is the best GX470 pass on the entire RUclips. Sorry to see what happened to you on Hells gate. 😮
Thanks man! Poison spider is my favorite trail for sure. And no worries on hells gate. Shit happens. I walked away with as little collateral damage as possible. Lesson learned.
Very nice. I own a 08 GX470. I bought mine about 6 months ago and I absolutely love it. Your GX looks great. I really want to lift mine and do some things, but with a large family(6 kids) to support, it's gonna have to wait. How much was your lift to install?
The actual labor for install was around $700-$800 I believe. The lift as a whole I don’t recall.
damn i want one of these. it might be a while so it could be a 460 instead.😅
Did you get a 460?
Is this using the original GX470 rear end?
Yes. Fingers crossed haha.
You really need to show us how that rear bumper ended up
To do that stuff, you need the bumper lift bar. I can't wait to get mine.
It’s just extremely scratched up. But it’s held up just fine. Can’t justify $2000 all in for a bumper. Just can’t do it. I wheel it. I have fun. I don’t worry about the scratches.
Probably should just show the full descent next time instead of trying to hide damage when we all know what happened.
He did good. They did great
Sick bro how much lift and what size tires you got? Looks like the perfect amount of clearance for my GX lol
Thanks! Lift is 3” and tires are 285/70R17.
@@chasechapman4689did you have to do any trimming to get the tires to clear? I have a 3 inch lift and wanted to get the same tire size.
@slowazzes1972 you shouldn't need any trimming woth that size. Wheel offset will change things. I run 295/70r17 stock wheels and I rub on the plastic liner in the fenders
Nice build, i actually like the wheel color you went with more than the bronze. Just ordered a lift kit for mine too, ready to start sending :D
GO UTES>>>LOVE it
2.5” lift and 285s?
It’s a full 3” lift and 285’s yes.
Great looking GX! They can be very capable rigs very easily
What lockers do u have?
I’ve since sold this rig but I had a spartan lunchbox locker in it.
@@chasechapman4689 thank you. Rear locker right? I have the opportunity to buy either t4r with rear or another t4r with a center diff lock. Trying to decide…
@@marcsmartinez01 yes, rear. Rear is far more beneficial and capable.
0:29 LOL This happened to a friend of mine. He refused to go any further because his hitch rubbed. Nice ride!
I rarely tow. That’s really what the hitch is for! Protects my rear end all over Moab.
Lmfao. “Excuse the fighters jets”. Tell me you’re in the military, without telling me you’re in the military! I get the same sound down here at Lackland…… Love it😂 also, badass rig
Haha I actually don’t work in the military but just live by the air force base. I definitely love watching the variety of jets and airplanes flying over my house. We got a Thunderbirds show front and center directly over my head last month. Thanks for watching!
@@chasechapman4689 that sounds awesome! Enjoy:)
How much was the lift cost? I’m planning to put a lift on GX also
A little over $3000 I think. But that included new UCA’s and LCA’s and all labor.
Can you please give the specs on the wheels and tires, they look great and I'm shopping for wheels now, mainly what offset.
Tires are 285/70R17 BFG KO2’s. Wheel is the 4Runner TRD Pro wheel that is 17x7 and has an offset of +4.
@@chasechapman4689 thanks for the info!
This 4runner is impressive!!!! I’m never getting rid of mine!! Can’t wait to start working on her one day!!
If it off-roading looks exciting on video it is terrifying in real life.
Love it so much I bought and modded one! Take it everywhere
I love the Lexus gx470 it’s the best car
Baby Land Cruiser!
@@Mr.International82 YES!
Have one for sale in Nashville. 2004 clean title, 180K, one owner, 11k. Come get it!! White in color with tan interior 🙂
This thing is sweet
Looking at getting a470 or montero live close also gotta love the jets
GX470 is obviously my choice but I’ve heard the Montero’s are awesome and I would absolutely love one of those too.
Bad ass! And, do I hear the siren song of the gx...the exhaust manifold leak?
Yeah apparently I have it. Not sure how or when I’m going to take care of it. Apparently it’s quite expensive to fix.
UNBELIEVABLE GREAT OFFROAD SUV GX470👌
As a 3rd gen dude doing these trails, there really is no need for the obvious camera tricks. They’re enough on there own. Good diving
Grandes experiencias

We could get hung up on the semantics or we could acknowledge this is the J120 platform from Toyota which is the same platform as the FJ Cruiser, 4Runner and Land Cruiser Prado. Literally the difference is L badges instead of Toyota badges.
Hey MO MO it is a Toyota you MOOK!
