Quick video of our turbo street car. 100% stock K20Z1 engine, Garrett GTX3076R gen2 turbo @ 18psi. 523whp, 348wtq. Drivetrain is a BMW ZF 6-speed transmission, ACT E46 organic clutch, and Getrag 3.42 rear end. Full interior 2001 NB weighing 2380 lbs. without driver. Speedometer is GPS calibrated. Here's a few laps in our K24 Miata paired with the new BMW E36/E46 transmission upgrade. Parts are available to install this trans behind a Honda K series or the original Mazda BP engine. This setup is a ZF 5 speed with 3.91 final drive, and laps were consistent 1:38s throughout the day, with more time to be gained as we fine tune this car. See more at www.kmiata.com. Here's some recent footage from our testing at Mid Ohio. Car is still a full street car with 217whp, Koni shocks, Ground Control springs, and 225 NT01s. Even though the suspension is less than ideal, and the car wanted to understeer due to a broken rear sway bar endlink, the car felt solid and we can tell there is a LOT more potential in this setup.

For this testing, we only had 198whp out of our 2004 k24a2, mainly due to the very restrictive intake, header, exhaust, and conservative tune. They come from factory in fwd configuration, but people started mounting them like 2jz in a longitudinal configuration, and they usually have to use a BMW transmission instead of the fwd tranny
engines are neither fwd nor rwd, that depends on the rest of the powertrain. you can turn them 90º

I'm a little late to the party, but I'm just curious. What the hell does an NB feel like at 140-160mph? Does the front end just get light? Does it shimmy like hell? lol
it actually feels more stable than you'd think with the right suspension, alignment, wheels, and tires.
@@kpowerindustries8210 Nice! Wasn't sure how the aero would affect the car at those speeds. I know Miatas are draggy as hell, but I wasn't sure about the lift.
@@rfmartin89 its just loud. and the wobbly hood might give you are scare on its run. Also dont run top down with too much speed. while 140 mph are just fine, any faster will risk your top to fly off. Currently running a E92 BMW Gearbox with a 3.3 Rearend in a 600 HP NB. With 7800 on the revlimiter ill prob hitting 180 mph if i wanted to. Not sure if i wanna....

Interesting video. I just learned about the Miata K swap today (a video just showed up in my feed here) It's interesting. My question, how is it possible because to the best of my knowledge, all the K series Honda engines (except the S2000) are FWD, how do you convert a transverse FWD engine to longitudinal RDW for the swap? Thanks
This is 6 months late but you turn the motor sideways and bolt it up to the Miata trans I’m pretty sure there are some adapter plates involved
@@awoljones4908 That's what I was thinking, thanks for the reply, no worries. I've just rarely seen a transverse engine used in a rear wheel drive that someone made, So I was curious as to installation.

I don’t want to say a lot of people have had this problem or not, but I know Greg from carpassionchannel is having that vibration issue, and TommyFYeah did a lot of complaining about his transmission when he did his build as well. Is that something you guys are hearing about a lot or is it just a few isolated incidents? I’m wanting to do a K Swap but the problems Greg is having are starting to scare me away a bit.
Hey Tim. We're working with Greg right now on some things with his car and we expect to have a resolution soon. Our test cars are super smooth it's been hard for us to replicate his issue. K swaps with a Miata trans/driveshaft have never had any weird vibration issue since we released them in 2014. Our BMW trans kit will be updated/revised if needed, but even now most customers have no trouble at all. Feel free to call or email us if you'd like to discuss further!
Is the components swap exactly the same for k20a2?
Yes, except most of these items already come on a k20a2. All you have to do is swap the pump housing. This video shows you what's needed to put all the k20a2 parts on a k24. So if you start with a k20 you're most of the way done already.
@@kpowerindustries8210 Hi, question about the cluster, NB cluster max redline at 8k RPM. does it limit the revving or the needle just keep going beyond the range?
@@henryliu8518 The needle can easily go well past the 8k RPM mark. Just needs a K series :)
Is the RHD version conversion kit available?

Awesome video! Very helpful. Make the k20 a2 oil pump swap seem pretty straight forward. The only thing I would add is definitely try to hand thread any bolts before using the drill to reduce chances of bolts being crossed threaded. But thanks for the video!
