    I like chatty episodes like this. I'm still intimidated by knitting stripes but I will be making the Varsity Sweater by Lamb & Kid Designs very soon, though it barely qualifies as a striped sweater. I'm in the process of knitting the Bustleton Tee by Erika Flory (which is shown in stripes) but in a solid fingering weight cotton and the pattern is very good. I'd really like to make Virkattu kaarrokeneuletakki by omA KOPPA even though it's discontinued and crocheted I think I can figure it out. She used to have the pattern notes she made on her website, I'll have to look it up. All of these patterns are on Ravelry.

    I've been eyeing that Farnham Sweater too (I also haven't purchased the pattern because I'm not 100% yet). And yes, there are SO MANY striped sweaters out there and what isn't striped can usually end up striped lol. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

    im actually working on an all over stripe version of the Marseille sweater as I watch this video! Youre right, it's finicky but im just winging it and having fun haha. It's actually using an advent as well. I love the stripe hype sweater and the Olga sweater. I will probably do an Olga with an advent I get this Christmas!

    I do love the look of the Farnham sweater. I think the small details like the shoulder detail on the sibling sweater can really make a pattern stand out in a sea of similar patterns too.

    I just knit a wide stripey sweater - wanted 2 colour 2” stripes in camel and black and I ended up using a non-striped pattern - Poppy by Petite Knit as I wanted a neat shoulder and the look of a long sleeved tee - inspired by my favourite Marimekko tee I had back in the 70’s and it turned out beautifully. Maybe more of a transitional/ summer tee than what you’re after, I used KFO cotton merino which I know you like. Anyway I’m really happy with the result and glad I plunged into modifying based on the shoulder I liked.

    Love all the fabric you got! I was wondering how you purchase fabric? I mainly do project by project, but that means the fabric can't go to other projects because it's not enough. How much yardage do you roughly get to be able to do that, or like what's the thought process? Also love T. Kingfisher

      I actually have a Notions log of all the patterns I want to dive into someday! If I see a fabric that I think would be a good fit, I just check to see how much I need! If I like the fabric, but have no idea what to use it for yet, I find that 3 meters (about 3.3yds) is good enough for me to make a dress/pants/top+extra/etc! I recommend looking through fabric requirements for a bunch of patterns you like and maybe finding your average! Hope that helps (:

    Wow! I really appreciate you sharing how you worked up Tim's sleeves. I'll use this in the near future. Thank you! Knitting: I'm doing a 30 in 30 days with my little mushroom ornaments for the little craft Bazaar I go to every year. It's been difficult with my kiddo starting middle school and all that comes along with preteen stuff but it helps as well to have something else to focus on. Books: I read aloud The Puppets of Spelhorst by Kate DiCamillo to my kiddo and I enjoyed it as well. It has some creepy vibes because the puppets are amphopomorphized but it was fun. And we had to stop reading Scary Stories For Young Foxes because it got too scary for my kiddo but I'm going to finish it on my own. It does get a bit dark.

    Hi Mel, I love seeing the progress of your makes! Currently I’m almost finished with a cardigan using the pattern “Bougainville.” I was inspired by your swatch for the recursion sweater so I bought the pattern and ordered yarn for it. After I’m done with this cardigan and maybe another sweater wip I hope to cast on! Lately I’m into listening to audiobooks, mostly mémoirs. Right now I’m feverishly listening to “The Third Gilmore Girl” by Kelly Bishop. Happy knitting 😊

    I've been planning on a transitional knit too! Tessellated vest is definitely up there, as is the Very Varied vest by Lydia Morrow. Maybe a short sleeve Gr8 gingham raglan? Though truthfully, I'm already working on cold weather knits 😅

    It is so fun to see these transitional knits and to hear the weather in other places. Right now it is already almost winter where I am in northern Montana USA (so far north that I can see Canada north). This morning was 40F (about 4.5C) and yesterday it snowed in the mountains around where I live. I have decided it is basically sweater weather here. Vests are a great option right now as the colder mornings and evenings have warmer days than actual winter.

    • @MelanieAsato
      @MelanieAsato Месяц назад

      Ahh so jealous of your weather! I'm a cold weather girlie through and through so I'm melting in this heat and am very envious of ppl who have sweater weather already!

    For my partner, I really want to make him a cotton Flax Light. I think I can get it done this year but it would be a winter gift. It doesn't get too cold here though and he runs hot so he'd enjoy it through the winter and Spring. For myself, I have the Weekday Tee from Aimee Sher in my queue but likely won't get to it until next year. For kiddo, I have Stig vest by Yarn-Madness waiting to be made. I do think I'll get to it before winter hits us. It is a free pattern so I suggest reading through finished projects for tips.

    I feel like I’m in the same pickle, lol. I’ve been swatching like crazy trying to figure out what I want to knit next on my queue. I just made a swatch for the Tessellated Vest! It turned out so pretty! You’re right, it’s mosaic knitting - easier than color work and can be quite thick but I think a nice, plush vest is a great piece for those days when it’s cold but not that cold, imo. I wish you good luck on choosing from your queue, so many great options! I think it might come down to what is most practical for you for the season. P.S. that yarn from KW is sooo beautiful! 😍

    @jonnapeguero7910 Месяц назад

    I highly recommend the tessalated vest! I made it last year, it’s a pretty quick knit and so comfy on colder days with a shirt underneath. It is three yarns I used a fingering, spincycle dyed in the wool and a suri, it’s slipped stitches I think only one yarn each row so it’s not that thick. It’s a little more fitted than the pullover and no sleeves so very quick and would be so great with a handspun!

    Oh no, hope everyone in the family feels better soon 🧡. I love the colour you’re using for your poet socks! I totally understand the reading slump! I was feeling the same in August, so I’ve been reading some grimm fairy tales graphic novels/comics. I would recommend Dead Silence by S.A Barnes and Just Like Mother by Anne Heltzel. Great video Mel! p.s I received my yarn from the anime club of the forger family and I love it 😍. Can’t wait to knit something up with it 😁.

    I felt similarly about Horror Movie, which is a shame, because I loved A Head Full of Ghosts. I was pretty into the book until the ending and I just felt like it was such a let down? Not even disappointing really, just kind of blah. I'm hitting a reading slump too. It's coinciding starting stranded colourwork so I've been reading a lot of charts mostly 😅. Hope you feel better soon!

    Oh no! It's so hard when everyone in the family is sick. I hope you feel better soon! I wanted to ask, what is library access like there for you? I like scrolling through audiobook apps to get out of a reading funk, along with old comics and GNs. Also, some old kid classics help too like Arnold Lobel and Winnie The Pooh.

T Kingfisher's novellas are good and quick, you could try one of those if you haven't read them already, they're delightfully dark and creepy. Other books that have gotten me out of slumps have been The Thursday Murder Club, Some Desperate Glory by Emily Tesh, and The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison.

    Sometimes revisiting a favorite book, has helped me. Especially early in my day, before I get busy. I recently started rereading the Dark is Rising series, and plan to revisit some other newbery medel/honor books I haven’t read in years. Also, I don’t know if your into poetry, but a collection of poems can be a quick read to slip into your day.

    Do you think it was perhaps Agatha Christie's intention to 'mock' the rich/colonisers mentality with her characters in Death on the Nile? I.e. a very early version of White Lotus or Triangle of Sadness? Just a thought, would be cool.

      That's an interesting thought, but the lack of any supporting commentary/scenes/dialogue to back up that idea is pretty much nil 😅. There's just these random blips in the book that really just seem to be put there without really a second thought (which makes sense since she's writing as a person in her own era).

    The newest India Holton book, The Ornithologists Guide to Love, is a really fun and witty romp. It could be great to get you out of a rut if you like magical birds and rom coms!

    Yummy! Your food always looks so delicious! I haven't had good eel in quite sometime. I'll have to look for it next time we are in city/metro area. Yeah, I like rereading my favorite comics or GNs when I'm in a slump or just not getting on with current reads. Thanks for another great video!

    Love your glasses! This was so timely -- I just started reading "Death on the Nile" last month and my criticisms match yours. I was just bored to tears reading it. I figured out the gist of the situation early on, so I looked it up, made peace with it, and stopped reading lol! Hope you find some enjoyment with it toward the end. As for being in a reading rut, I'm sort of there. I don't have any great suggestions maybe outside of trying short stories? Less of a commitment during a rut. I did recently find a subreddit: r/bookclub. They have a few ongoing read-alongs for the rest of August, and are beginning the plans for September (loads of options and a handy calendar). Might be something to consider checking out. It's already introduced me to many authors! Hope your next read is much more satisfying!

    I laughed a lot when you talked about Death on the Nile and dated thinking, and then your feelings about the rich character who had died. I so get it:)) I'm not sure if I saw this book on one of your lists, but I love Genevieve Gornichec's The weaver and the witch queen - strong female characters, viking era, magic, fiber crafts <3

    I love these vlogs! They make me so happy :) Thanks for sharing your day-to-day <3 As a fellow creative and work-from-home person, it's nice and inspiring to watch :D My recent favourite books that have pulled me out of slump are: Batshit Seven by Sheung-King and All of This Could be Different by Sarah Thankam Mathews. I've also been recommended Martyr by Kaveh Akbar. I started to read it and loved the humor and the way it's written so far! Definitely intend to finish it. And my friend who is a bookseller said it's her favourite book of the year. I would also say that all of the books above are easy and engaging reads. They're well-written, heartfelt, and funny while still being serious. Bonus is that they are definitely very good remedies for out-of-date colonialism-laden lit like Death in the Nile :P (they're all BIPOC writers!)
