    This 10 minute podcast has more ads than Duke blue Devils have recruits. This is pitiful. I’m so tired of listening to all these ads if you’re gonna give us so many ads why don’t y’all give us an hour show? No, you’ll give us a 15 minute show and 20 minutes worth of ads that makes no sense. Y’all are destroying this product, any of the sponsors are reading this? I’m making an appointment not to buy any sponsor on RUclips. If you’re advertising on RUclips, I’m not lying. I don’t care if you guys get paid or not they are not professionals. They should be doing this for fun, but all we get is advertising every podcast advertise advertise advertise. It’s cool.

    Hello. I saw this two weeks ago and I saw it against Maine, too. What is it and am I kidding? No. Bigtime no. Coach, find you a Duke football player, a big and tall one, one that has basketball experience and sbig ize, well bring him over to your next BB practice. Why? Because your gonna need him. This is glaring weakness and is almost inexcusable. Duke is missing experienced size under the basket. This Malaack [?], is still looking like a too little experienced rookie. When will he be ready play a whole game fluidly? He has little help on rebounds when Coop is double teamed. Kon? What, 6-6. 6-7. Do you believe Malock is ready for the Kansas big? No, the inexperience is excessive and will cost Duke. Is there even one top 15 team lacking muscle, experienced, big size underneath? Find one?

    This obsession with analytics is going to be the death of a lot of college teams come March you need to rebound play defense and have guys they can break people down off the dribble and get to the basket for buckets don’t want that inevitable 4/25 shooting night from three as a team Sends you home in the sweet 16 vs a plucky mid major.

    1) Too much emphasis on Cooper Flagg. Flagg could miss games and this Duke team will be just fine. The story should be centered on how great a roster this team is. 2) No weaknesses JJ??? Not very objective buddy. We’ve only seen exhibition games but I’ve seen clear weaknesses. Duke needs to get much more proficient at FT shooting. Staying out of foul trouble. We haven’t even played very physical teams yet. How will Duke look against teams that can smother you??? Rebounding isn’t just about effort either. It’s about physicality and smarts, sometimes luck. This is why the Kentucky game is the only game I care about out of the next 2 weeks. Maine, Army, Wofford will (should) be blowouts. Appreciate the excitement though. But there is still a lot of youth in some of our key guys that will need to develop quickly.

    • @landoman82

      Definitely alot to work on! Foul trouble might bite us in the ass but i love this D so far

    • @mike2687
      @mike2687 10 дней назад

      Yeah, I’ve been harping on how important the FT factor could be with James and Foster under 70% and Brown just north of 70%… Foster could certainly prove to be better than that as a sophomore but James and Brown probably are who they are. Proctor was down in the mid 70s after shooting much better as a freshman-he’s another one that I expect to have an improved shooting year. Gillis is a knockdown shooter but will be in a small volume. I don’t have any of the freshmen stats from HS but Kon looks to be a very high % guy (Harris too but in smaller volume), Maluach appears to be a low 70s guy and and Flagg probably in between the two. Flagg is probably the most important for this aspect being that he’s likely to force the most shooting fouls but the trio of Proctor/Foster/James are highly important as the ones who will be involved so often driving and sheer volume of having the ball in their hands. I’d say the other weakness is potentially shallow depth at C with Ngongba injured though this is more about matchups depending on the opponent-Brown will be strong against many Cs. There’s also the potential for lacking some scoring in the paint through posting up (high percentage FG) without an Okafor, Carey Banchero. But hey, can’t have everything!

      @@mike2687I’d add that an extremely quick and lethal backcourt could give us some issues early on ball screen defense. Kinda like #3 for Lincoln who had his way for a bit. But those type of mid major teams rarely get you over the course of 40 minutes. I think we can group rebound a bit to negate the inside issue but yes without Malauch the shot blocking goes down-we take a hit. However, this team has way more length depth and athleticism than last year, and that helps mitigate foul trouble.

    I actually think Duke can run through Kentucky, Kansas (who did not look impressive against Arkansas although short handed), Arizona, and Auburn. Line them up!!!! I’m not saying they will…. Many of those games will be about toughness - especially in the front court. Kentucky will be a perfect first test. Can our bigs impose their will more than their bigs??? One reason Duke blew through ASU is because they were more physical with screens and helped guards get open looks. Against more physical teams we will see how much separation our guards can actually create and how good of quality those 3PA are. But make no mistake about it. This is a vintage 1990’s Coach K Duke team.

    Haha looks like we got an episode of Locked On After Dark going on here. Arizona State is going to be similar to a mid-tier ACC level opponent. They are preseason #71 on Kenpom, just above Virginia and directly under Syracuse, Notre Dame and Georgia Tech. That would place them somewhere around 11th in the ACC. Bart Torvik has them at #68. As for Khaman, I’m not surprised at all about his rebounding. It’s why I said he’s a walking double double. I just figured he would get more easy dunks. Some of that is related to Foster and Evans looking for themselves in driving lanes. But really, Khaman can easily average over 10 rebounds a game in college. He averaged close to 14 REBS in the BAL against 30 year old grown men, former American College players. He looks like he’s trying to adapt to playing for a team that doesn’t revolve around him like the Uganda City Oilers did, but I hope he finds his footing soon and hopefully his teammates help him get comfortable inside. There is no need for him to shoot 3’s. I’m not saying he can’t, but you guys keep bringing up one game against team USA where EVERYONE on South Sudan shot well. You completely ignore what he has done at the professional level. I get it, you haven’t really seen him play, but all he needs to do is stay under the rim. Grab boards, kick them out for 3’s, get an easy put back, or dish it to Kon for another poster dunk. Brown is a better shooter than Khaman (so is Ngongba), but neither of those guys are 7’2.” Exploit his strengths, not his weaknesses. Stop being fan boys and be more logical.

    With Cooper showing he already has a very nice mid range game. I hope he doesn’t get caught up in the coaching staff wanting to shoot all kinds of three-pointers this year. I know they’ve already stated in numerous interviews that they wanted to shoot more threes and play faster than they did last year and Cooper took 5 himself in the scrimmage. I hope they allow him to get his one or two dribble pull up from the mid range instead of having him attempt 10 threes a game

    I love Proctor, but I said it over and over last year, the ball moves better and the offense flows better with Foster at the point. • @itsdagoat_Isaac
      @itsdagoat_Isaac 17 дней назад

      I don't mean disrespect but you're wrong man. I'm obviously a Duke fan and our offense was inefficient without Rese at the 1 with the starters. Rese has a 3-1 assist/TO ratio for his career. He's so controlled in the pick n roll its impossible to stop for opposing defenses. He held RJ Davis to 9-26 shooting in both games and held him to a 13 point average he's one of the best 2 way players in the country. I'm so tired of seeing this Tyrese Prcotor doubt from our fans. We don't beat Houston without Proctor, we don't beat NC State without Proctor, we dont beat Clemson without Proctor (and Jared obviously) and we don't beat Georgia Tech at home without Proctor.

    • @TravW12

      @@itsdagoat_Isaac Yes, Tyrese is a beast on D. I didn’t say not to start him I said put him at the 2 and let Foster bring the ball up. You can still put Proctor on the other teams best guard. I just think Foster puts more pressure on the rim and is more decisive with the ball, Tyrese gets in the paint but he just probes around and hardly ever goes at the rim. Look at his free throw attempts last year? Like 2 a game. Can’t have that from your pg

    Here were my Major Takeaways: 1) JJ, yes this is a title contender. It is Jon Scheyer’s first legit Final 4 roster as I said months ago. But I was most impressed by how much of a leader Cooper Flagg already is. This game started off extremely rocky (until Malauch entered) and Flagg was leading by example. He had another one of his staple weak-side shot blocks and then looks at his teammates demanding better performances (accountability). He helps lift up Harris off the deck (cares about his teammates), and he leads the team in scoring on limited minutes. Nearly 1 PT per minute (22 in 24 minutes wow!). He’s already shaping into Duke’s leader. A 17 year old…. 2) Proctor is a Must Start at PG. I have been on the fence the entire off season and my initial thought was the correct one. He didn’t look “clean” but the offensive flow, spacing, and transition is much more authentic. Foster is too ball dominant to play PG for this team and should come off the bench. I was happy to see Foster’s defense wasn’t complete garbage like it was at Countdown to craziness. Proctor had some embarrassing shots near the rim, but as we saw in the game, just him getting near the rim our size can complete the job for him. It’s funny, I think Proctor is going to have some ugly moments all year, but overall has a great season. He just has that I don’t care feel to him. 3) Jon Scheyer has no idea what talent he has. The lineup was far to helter skelter than it needed to be. There is absolutely no reason Khaman Malauch should come off the bench at this point in the season. Sure enough, Duke’s offense took off when he entered. His size is game changing. I don’t know how many times I have to emphasize it. All those offensive rebounds will turn into 3 points that bury our opponent. That is what will catapult point separation in games. Malauch DOES NOT need to shoot from 3. Maliq Brown is reliable. He has a nice touch and shot 37% last year. But Maluach was a low 30% 3PT shooter, inconsistent. Now I will admit, his shot, especially from the FT line looked more technical than in BAL a few months ago. But there are WAY TO MANY sharp shooters on this team to justify Maluach not under the rim rebounding. PERIOD! Brown isn’t 7’2.” Secondly, Isaiah Evans shouldn’t be one of the last guys coming off the bench. And he shouldn’t be rotting away on the bench for the entire 1st half. When you have a guy who can single handedly assassinate the other team you help develop him. He needs to build chemistry on offense and defense because there will be nights when certain key guys go cold. I don’t think Gillis or Harris should get minutes over Evans. I understand Jon wants to be tougher this season and those guys have larger frames, but the ceiling comes down playing those 2 over Evans. Those guys are offensively limited. Evans is unique. 4) It’s a shame it’s K2 and not K3. He’s awesome! He does everything you want. Plays physical, knows how to use is body, crafty and tricky, high IQ, competes for every rebound and every 50-50 ball, highly efficient shooter, very high IQ. But if Jon Scheyer is going to play him 30+ minutes he has to make a significant jump in his defense. Guards seem to have no trouble driving to the basket and scoring at the rim over him. Personally, I think Kon should be the 6th man of the year. Bring him in for a spark off the bench. Let Proctor, Sion, Flagg, Brown, and Maluach show how tough you are, and then bring your boys off the bench and let this game get loose real quick! 5) This was just one game. Duke did exactly what they were expected to do as a National Title Contender. If Duke only won by 20, I would have had serious questions of how good this team really is. Very fun finish to this game, but it was only 1 exhibition game. This will be a long, TOUGH season. Let’s keep things into perspective and continue to compete hard to get progressively better week by week.

    JJ - The preseason Kenpom rankings agree with you. They have Duke as a title favorite ranking in at #2. Houston #1 and Auburn #3 which Duke will play in Cameron. That’s a game I have circled to assess how tough we are. Bruce Pearl’s teams always embody toughness, just like Kelvin Sampson teams. I’m curious to see how accurate Preseason Kenpom Rankings are. I’ll have to follow up on this. There is an article written 2 years ago assessing Big East teams in preseason Kenpom rankings (and where they finish) since 2014 which is actually not too bad, but per usual those teams are more overrated than not. Again, I’ll do my own digging but hey, seems like Kenpom and Bart Torvik are on the same page (Houston-1, Duke-2, but Iowa ST-3 and Auburn-7).
