great idea
I love your setup. This case looks amazing and is a fraction of the cost of the Sendak rolls I've looked at recently.
Glad you like it!
Do you have a link to the gouache pallet?
I find Derwent water brush gives me great water control. You must try a Sailor Fude fountain pen. The green one. Variety of line width is it's best feature. Nice kit. Have fun😊
I'll definitely check them out, thanks for the tip!
This was very helpful! Thank you! I’ve never seen an airtight palette before, and I plan to get one for my gouache.
I hope it helps with your gouache journey! I've found airtight palettes make a huge difference for keeping things organized and the paints from drying out too quickly.
I have two one watercolor/pstel one sketch
I have one and love it! I added extra pans by taking out the frame holder of the pans then using a needed eraser molded to keep it inside.
I’m so glad you found a way to make it work for you! I need to try that!
Just ordered two and I just got the standard and triplet version try them both now if good I just need to get double one
oh, white nights are my favourites!!❤
Is it the background in acrylics?
Hi! No, it's all gouache :)
wow! amazing work friend, keep it up 🥰🥰
Don’t waste your money just buy 10 the number 10 Jelly Roll We’ve all done that testing. That seems to be the best Jelly Roll or the uniball.
Where did you get those small water containers in the contraluz boxes? Some more info please.
Hi! Contraluz is a local brand to Costa Rica, but if you check their website they might also have international shipping. It's contraluzcr dot com
@@iosebaart thankyou, I have emailed them but I can’t see the water containers on their site at all but would luv to try their paints.
Where do you buy your travel art kit?
Hi! Most of the stuff I have I got in local art stores or Amazon. Btw, there are links in the description for almost every item I talk about. Thank you for stopping by!
these look so stunning ☺☺
Thank you for always stopping by and leaving some encouragement, you're the absolute best!
I've not tried oil before but it seems fun! watched and enjoyed right till the end 🥰
That's not a "studio", that's a toolbag. I thought you meant an art office on wheels.
if you havent yet settled on a waterbrsuh then let me highly and whole heartedly recomend the Pentel Aquash brushes they are amazing with watercontrol AND great pointy bristles that actually last for a long time
I'll definitely check them out. Tons of people have recommended them to me. Thanks!
Winton vermillion was disappointing to me too. I didn't know it would have so much white in it, making it very pink. Didn't work as well in zorn as I had hoped.
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one haha
I'd love to try oils one day myself! enjoyed right till the end 🥰
I test pens by writing out the alphabet, and I always miss out one letter, but I can never remember which one it is. 😵💫
As long as our primary school teachers don't find out we're ok haha
@@iosebaart I'm so old all mine are long dead, so I think I'll be okay! 😄 Unless of course... ✍️👻 😱
I like how you describe what each colour reminds you of, as well as how it mixes with other colours you use. Really nice. I also prefer plastic palettes as they get better with use. They're also much more robust in general use than the metal ones. Some people say they stain - well they all do, even the baked enamel. The only ones that don't are the ceramic.
I'm so glad you liked the video!
Great video, I just have a question... How long will the colors from the tubes on the palette last... If I put them on the palette with a lid... how long can I use them... Thank you and greetings from the Czech Republic 🌞☀️🎨 🖌️
That's the great thing about tubes, you can put them wherever you need them and they don't go bad. They will dry up, but watercolors are made to be rewetted as many times as you need. So virtually you can use them forever until you run out of them. Greetings from the other CR (Costa Rica)!
Great video! Vicki Mcgrath has a course on Domestika. Though I don't know if you even need it, you did a great job emulating her style.
Oh thanks for the tip, I had no idea. I might check it out some time. I definitely love the way she uses color, that's something I struggle with, and I feel her paintings have helped me improve a bit. That's why I'm such a firm believer in master studies.
My fve white gel pen is the Uniball Signo 0.7 White hands down
Cool😙
Thank u for the vid! I went to get oil pastels (not soft ones) but Im confused The box says soft pastels but the sticks are round and say oil pastel Another of their products say soft on the sticks and are squared in shape How do i know the mungyos im getting are oil pastels not soft pastels?
Soft pastels are like a chalk, they are dry and dusty kind of like colored charcoal, and generally, in my experience they are squared. Oil pastels are more like a crayon, they are waxy. The ones you want to get, like the mungyos, are soft oil pastels, which are something like a soft crayon, and they are rounded. Hope that helps. :)
@@iosebaart very helpful, thanks!
The Choosing Keeping watercolors are absolutely beautiful! I hope they find their way to the US soon! 💜
I hope so too!
what a gorgeous piece ☺☺
Gelly roll have different numbers. Higher number is more opeace is. Find number 10 and you will see the difference.🤗
It definitely works much better, the difference is pretty noticeable. I'm also enjoying the jelly roll 10 quite a bit. Thanks for stopping by!
Lock the focus on your camera once you get the canvas set, and it will stop focusing on your hand. Might have to mess with the mixing palette. Love watching you paint.
Thank you for the suggestion! I'll definitely make sure I do next time. Sadly I didn't notice that was happening until I was editing the whole thing :/
I really like your style, work, etc. Keep it up.
Thank you so much! Comments like yours keep me going :)
Nice video! Keep making videos and art!
Thank you so much 😀
Thank you so much for showcasing the Gansai watercolors. Your input on them has given me a better understanding of what makes them so unique. The colors are quite beautiful in an almost creamy kind of way, and that granulation is absolutely gorgeous. Adds so much character to the piece. I trully hope I can get my hands on a Gansai set in the future. Again, my many thanks. 🙏
I have the 48 set that I bought about three or four years ago… I wonder if they’ve improved the formula since then? Always found them a bit stiff but a step up from the❤❤ really dry brands, like cray pas . I have those two other super creamy sticky brands that you mentioned and yes they can be messy, but they have their place usually at the end when I need some ultra smooth blending. Recently, I tried a brand called Montmarte, and oh my gosh, the texture is supreme! Zero crumbs and blends like a dream :-) oh, and did I mention they are extremely inexpensive? Pretty certain they’re not light fast, although I could be wrong. Mungyo doesn’t seem to have any information about that anyway. But they’re worth trying and I hope if you do you make a video because they’re excellent! Love your style of video and the swatches look great :-)
Thank you so much for the suggestion! They are on my cart now. As soon as I have them on my hands and play around with them a bit I'll make a video for sure!
@@iosebaart that would be awesome! There is a slight difference between their signature set and their extra soft set. The signature set being a little bit harder/firmer. I hope you get a chance to try them and I will definitely keep an eye out for the video!❤
This looks so good, what a stunning palette ☺☺
It really is! Thank you for stopping by!
What would you personally recommend for highlights in watercolor urban sketching?
After all the struggle on the video I kept the Uniball Signo in my pencil case, as well as an extra tube of white gouache. Depending on what I want to do I go with one or the other. Thank you for watching!
@iosebaart Smart choice. Can never go wrong with a tube of white gouache if all else fails, haha! Thank you so much for sharing! 👍
How do Gansai watercolors differ from other watercolors? I hear people saying how they "don't paint like regular watercolors" and that ends up being a reason for people to dislike them. I'd like to understand if you'd care to explain it me. Thanks. 😊
In general they feel a bit more opaque tan "western watercolors", which could be a good or a bad thing depending on what you're looking for. I really like them tho... But, you know what, let me make the next video about this topic. Thank you for your question!
@iosebaart Interesting. Would love to give them a try one of these days. The colors do look gorgeous. 🥰 I'll keep an eye on my notifications to make sure I don't miss it. Always eager to learn more! 😊
I'm enjoying watching your videos, simple, straight to the point, brilliant 👍
Thank you so much for the kind message! It means a lot to me :)))
Great vid , love the easy way you explain all , well done to you Hope you tell us where U are from ✨💞
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video :) I'm currently based in Costa Rica
If you’re going to get a new fountain pen I HIGHLY recommend a Sailor de Mannen fude pen or any fude nib pen. They are perfect for sketching and it give you a variety of line widths. For the white highlife I reccomend the Pentel Milky Brush pen in white OR POSCA white
Awesome suggestions, thanks!
fantastic video, watched and enjoyed till the end ☺☺
This is a brilliantly designed little set. I love that it comes with a little reservoir and two cups.
I have the Cotman and really like it. I don't like the way the Portable Painter is supposed to stand. There are ways to make the Cotman sit because it clicks in place, it's hard to explain unless you have one but it doesn't move around. If needed you could superglue magnets to the bottom to secure to a metal surface. I have used it outdoors and just strap it to my sketchbook with fine cord, like for travelers notebooks.
while it looks pretty neat, good value for your money at first sight, i think most of the time it's better to have something with less gimmicks that solves a particular necesity really really well, rather than something with identity issues. The portable painter is stable outside, fits good on your knee (inteligent design, rather than eyeflashing), and would you really extend all those transformer-like trays if you are doing urban sketching/plen air etc? you would have to wait for them to dry too if you truly are using it on the go, or carry some extra paper towels, etc, and more of a hazzle to clean too. you would rather go for something like the portable painter (or the sennelier aqua mini if you really want to push for as small a palette as posible haha), or just go the other route and plan ahead to get yourself installed somewhere to paint, bring a little backpack with you, whathever backpack this cotman palette fits in, i'm sure a regular good old palette would fit too, since this isn't as small as to, for example, fit in your pocket, or be it's own backpack (along the line sof like, the derwent carry all let's say) . the paint being included is kind of a nice bonus at first, but it will always be better to chose pigments on their own. And what it brings is cotman, not winsor and newton, so is this something for students? but then, skip the gimicky eye flashing plastic trays all together, get a generic metal palette, no mijello or anything fancy, choose mindfully a double primary palette, get to read some info on the pigments don't just take in what comes in the set (sets almost never are a good investment over picking colors separetely, not money wise, nor pigment wise. the closest you'll get is picking sets individually curated by people like themindofwatercolor, but that's because they themselves follow the exact guidelines i'm laying out here haha, if you were new to the medium you wouldn't know that) get some empty pans and make some intelligent pigment choices yourself to learn about pigment properties, get to read on handprint or wet canvas, there are plenty of sources, and get a ceramic plate to mix. Also, the bottle seems so central to the design in practical terms, that the moment it starts having a leak for example, the whole palette is rendered a bit mut, you'll have to keep it there just for the sake of the palette being able to close properly lol. The brush included, sure, does the job, but then again, skip the paint and the brushes and any gimmicky trays altogether, give us a genuinly outdoor-designed palette, invest the cost in that rather than in eye catching extras haha That's just my opinion! I'll say this, it's eyecatching for sure, i can see why they went for those magical extending trays and cotman watercolors lol. a proffessional painter would know better haha, it's the kind of thing to trap a beginer or hobbyst with. Not to say that if a relative were to gift this set to someone looking to paint in watercolor that it wouldn't be a nice gift, but it wouldn't be the best money investment beyond the gimmick if the person plans to stick with the medium beyond a temporary, casual hobby.
I really enjoyed reading your thoughts! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you: useful
Thank you for sharing. For white: I use Copic ink which comes in a small jar with a small brush or they have a small jar that is copic white pigment. Very nice coverage. Peace.
Cool! Thank you for the tip!
I have one of these! Had it for years. Replaced the brush with a W&N series 7 travel brush (I might need something a little bigger, wonder if Rosemary travel brushes fit?), started buying extra pans and filling them with other paint. It is kinda chunky and not as pocketable as other travel palettes, but the included water bottle is very handy and I tend to slot it into a sketching bag anyway. (Where, I hasten to add, a drinks bottle filled with water would not be so convenient) I like it very much. If I had any competence whatsoever with watercolours, I'd probably love it.
I love W&N series 7 brushes.
"If I had any competence whatsoever with watercolours, I'd probably love it.", i think it's the opposite, it's a palette very much geared towards absolute beginers
Oh, I didn't know that this palette had a water bottle and cups. I use a palette that I made myself from a cigarette box and since it's very thin I can clip it to my sketchbook. Sometimes I may use just a water brush with it. Other times a spray bottle and I also have a small plastic jar with a lid filled with water in my bag, just in case I want to use it.
That's a great idea!
The way my eyes POPPED when those extra trays came out XD holy cow! That’s just so cool.
Yes that was cool. Also it all just snapped in lickety split.
