Good work.
Glad u made it run so well
Im working on my John Deere B while watching you work on yours. My B is a 1949 and it has square axles. Mine might be a hodgepodge because the John Deere logo is centered on the hood.
Hi Mike, I'm coming from Argentina. I have a 1948 John Deere B and I'm repairing it myself since I found it in a very deteriorated condition. I'll send you photos. Best regards from afar.
Refuse to buy a tricycle.
@@kellymcclendon6601 they got a bad reputation, there’s been a couple tipped over on our farm over the years.
You should have painted the underside of the hood while you had it apart, especially if you live in the rust belt. I am not trying to make my 1951 expo quality; I just want to use it and have fun. Mine has an hour meter, water pump, live hydraulics, and a Yakima hitch, which was used before a 3 point hitch was available for John Deere.
@@DanielMeyer-ls5ph wow it’s got everything on it. One of the guys around here has a Yakima hitch n plow for a late A. Valuable property. Mine could use a water pump. Yah I probably should’ve painted more of it.
That’s a pretty slick oil & filter change. My grandpa had one of those back in the 50’s to early 60’s. I was born in 56 and I saw him work it when I was 4 or 5. I called it the clug-clug tractor. His son, (my uncle) has one now. Did those have like a 70 horse motor? Thanks fo4 the video.
@@jackhuddleston6830the late B’s were I think 28 or 30 without looking it up. A couple of my grandpa’s neighbors farmed with a B as their only tractor.
That seems too hot. I think it should be running around 190 degrees. Nice looking and running tractor though.
@@LittleNokesvilleFarm yes too warm. My dad said their old A without a water pump would run right at 200. I’ll wash the radiator out and see what happens
Take some of that engine oil and change the oil bath air filter.
@@lenscap8925 you know I usually do but I forgot all about it.
Reminds me of Ross the Oliver Guy and Moline Dan lol except he's doing Deere's
@@gzahirny I’m not as ambitious as Ross, that guy puts out a lot of videos. Does a good job at it too.
I have a 1947 John deere B.
Neat. They’re pretty cool tractors. Thanks for the comment
I love the look and sound of these great old Tractors. I liked and shared. All my best.
@@tectalabyss I really appreciate that. There’s nothing like the sound of those two cylinders under a load.
BTW, absolutely subscribed too!!
I have no idea how I got on to your channel. I want to tell you how much I appreciated your video as I am a city slicker and watching you fix the tractor and plow your field was so relaxing even though I know it's very tough work! The background insect noise was a fantastic background sound! Sir, just know that I was moved by your work ethics and appreciate your time in making a vlog about something that I don't know anything about. Now I find myself wanting to learn more about farming!!!
@@darrelhoyt4205 thanks, I just farm part time, yes it can be a lot of work but I’m sure life in the city isn’t always easy either. Appreciate you stopping by.
Love your videos! Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the positive feedback.
I hope someone can steam cleaning soon ❤️
I grew up on a farm where all the John Deere tractors were power shift tractors
You guys have pretty good luck with em?
JD 4020s are great!
@@usernametaken5619 I remember being about 11 and a custom farmer telling me they were the best tractor ever made.
If it is a power shift then spare no expense. They are just great.
@@johnireland6301 I like that transmission
Runs well! Like the power shift seems to be working perfectly!
@@michaelmcghee4833 it does work pretty good, I think those were good transmissions as long as they were maintained.
I painted a lot of 4020s..... they look sharp when your done!
@@JohnDoe-ot3zd yes they do, a friend of mine painted this. He did a good job. I left out the footage I had of him painting it, I wasn’t sure if he wanted to be on camera.
Satisfying!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
I ran a 65 4020 Power Shift with 18.4-34's and 10:00-16's. She was a horse.
@@panders55 I like those powershifts. Maybe I’ll put 10.00-16’s on this one, probly look better.
@@rustyoldjunk Pulled a 135, 5 btm semi mount plow, 20ft Kent spring tooth with a 5 bar harrow. In hay season was a 348 John Deere square baler.
@@panders55 did you have a turbo on it? Ever have any problems with the power shift? I’ve heard they’re pretty tough.
@@rustyoldjunk No, she was straight air induction, the power shift would heat up a little more than it should in 100 degree weather, so just dropped it down 1 grear and that helped. At about 11000 hors on the block and 2 overhauls the motor gave up. Then man I had worked for took an engine from a 105 J D Combine and put it in there and had the Power shift gone threw. His son and grandson still use it occasionally.
@@panders55 so 11000 on the power shift? I heard they’re pretty tough transmissions. We don’t do much heavy tillage around here in 100 degree weather anyway. Reminds me though I need to get the new trans temp gauge put in.
Nice

Wasn't 18.4x38's and 10.x16's on mine. Really liked it, made 4th 4mph, a real nice field gear and about 22 on the road!! Nice work!
Thanks, I think I’m gonna put 11l-15’s on sometime with those 34’s on the back.
Beautiful!
@@jorgepadilha7429 thanks
Beautiful!
Haha thanks Liam
Don't normally see those tractors planting. I love the idea of a hydrostatic transmission, but able to afford one. I'm impressed with that setup
The tractor and planter belong to my dad, kind of his retirement purchase I guess. Hydrostatic works really well for mowing hay and on that little planter. He pulls a 3 bottom plow too. It gave some transmission trouble this spring, less than 100 hrs on it. Warranty covered everything though, some factory defect
Makes me think of my dad seeing that old dodge. His was newer a 66, but I remember riding in that old truck everywhere until the mid to late 90s and got something else. I miss that truck and my dad. Wish I had a picture of him and that truck.
I know what you’re saying. Wish I had a few more pictures of different stuff myself. Not everyone had a camera in their pocket back then.
Have my dads 1952 JD D i have to do the same to it
Those later styled D’s are neat looking tractors
I spent thousands of hours On it plowing baleing and pulling an 8 foot cultivator moving square bales and stacking it all
@@wilmamcdermott3065 that’s cool. Those old D’s run forever and are easy to work on. Good luck with yours
You are could use a steam cleaning
Ya it got one eventually
Could a 4066r pull a 4 row or is a 2 row its limit? Sorry if its a dumb question
It’s a reasonable question, I think it would pull it pretty good. They have plenty of power. Probably would want ballast in the tires and weights on the front maybe.
How long would it take to plant around 40 acres with 4066r
With a two row like this going 4 mph about 13 hrs according to my math. Not counting time to refill the planter. This 3 acres maybe took me 45 minutes I’d guess. So maybe a couple short days for 40 acres if it was all close together.
@@rustyoldjunkthank you
Hey cousin! 😊
Hey how’s it going?
Where are you? Tennessee? Great video.
Western Wisconsin. Might look like Tennessee though. Thanks.
Ruling.
Thanks
Thank you gentlemen for saving another piece of history !
Thanks.
Back in the 60's my dad bought an identical tractor. After removing the head and hitting a stuck valve with a sawed off baseball bat and a sledgehammer it worked just fine. Never was a big fan of the steel wheels tho.
Haha ya they’re pretty tough old engines. I like the looks of steel wheels but they sure make for a rough ride.
Always love the G, finally got an early one, One of the first 400 built in 37, Saved it from the scrappers when I was in college, sitting in an Allis dealer's back lot. It was under a big thorn bush, just barely visible. I knew of it for a few years, thought it was an A as could barely see it. Then when I saw that they were clearing that lot for a new building, I took a chance and bought it almost unseen! Found out it was a G when they pulled it out of the brush to load it for me. Was missing the top end of the motor, so it sat in our hopeful pile for a time. My son loved to play farm on it when he was little. I've finally found enough parts to complete it. now just need to get going on it again. It still has the original small radiator on it, makes a bit rare, as most were recalled and updated back in the day. Don't know how long it sat in the dealers lot, but likely since the late 50s. Being it was missing the motor parts and the tires, I suspect they sold off those parts. The dealers dad told me that it was brought in for repairs but when told how much it needed, they bought a different tractor. I've owned it since 1975, but it sure has gotten many hours of kid use over the years. It's well earned it's keep for us!
That is a cool story. I’d like to have a low radiator G some day, or at least an unstyled one. Do you subscribe to Green Magazine or Two Cylinder Club? There’s a lot of aftermarket vendors advertised, they’d probably like hearing your story too. Who would trade a G for an allis??? Lol. Good luck with your project.
Hi there, Just a suggestion, when you lap valves using a drill, attach the chuck to the shaft at the collet end rather than the seat end, much easier and consistent, you only need to be able to lift it enough to allow grinding paste to fit and to allow the paste to centralise on the seat every so often. I understand you just wanted it to run, but as an experienced mechanic, if I was going that far I'd rebuild the head properly. Do it once and never need to touch it again. 👍 Glad you got this amazing old JD running against, love these old machines, they'll outlast many lifetimes.
Thanks for the advice. My thinking was it is easy enough to take back apart again, I didn’t even use a new head gasket just coated the old one with permatex aviation sealant for now. I’d like to do a full restoration someday though. Appreciate you watching me fumble around haha.
@@rustyoldjunk all good man, thanks for the reply. I hope you get her restored one day too, take care and keep learning 👍😎🍻
Luv that sound of a 4020😊
Me too, they sound even better with a regular John Deere muffler instead of that tractor supply one that’s on there.
Memories. We had a 46 A. We opened the compression release valves when we started ours. They’re right by the spark plug wire tubes. Have fun with your new workhorse.
A’s are good old tractors too. Thanks, I’m glad to have it back on the farm.
During the this past summer we went to ohio from the thumb of mi. And bought one with a wide front she runs great like yours love those Gs
Yup G’s are one of my favorite two cylinders. Neighbor has a late one with a single front wheel he’s getting ready to restore.
Reminds me of when I was a kid on the farm my grandparents lived on. Folks talking while making repairs to equipment. I miss those days.
Glad to hear it. Some of my earliest memories are with this tractor, it left when I was 8 or so.
Totally enjoyed watching the video! My dad wanted aG but never got one ! Thanks buddy for sharing!
Thanks for watching it, glad u enjoyed. G’s are pretty cool tractors.
love the old dodges good job
Thanks, I got a good running daily driver for not much money. They’re a good old truck.
Take this truck, take the box off and I'll take the box off. Go get have somebody rebuild a new bed for it, but Somali delighted in there. Go get a new build, a new frame for it. Go get a Dodge, get a new dodge like about a 94 or an hour. The ones has been I it's a junkyard. Take do the donut donut. Put a nice new engine at LA d lights on it. Can I make a nice cup? Cut a paint on your pudding? Nice cutting paint and painting the blue blue blue, the mirrors, all digital remote -Nice new seats seats everything. That's the suspensit's Benjamin and then some. And I say build that frame. I'll let you engine in there, but LA d lights in there. And there keep that do. Who knew put an a****** visor over time with cab lights? LED cab lights implies some nice new mirrors. Make a brand like a brand new tailgate. Install for it, I'm giving that test. For left bed lighter in there to a whole cover. Cover nice new tires of meeting Duo. Hey that truck although it looks
Damn it runs good.
Thanks. Ya it does run good.
Hey mike, a couple of tips for you. It's not 'synergetic', it's 'synergic'. Plus, when MIG welding with shielding gas, you push, don't pull...
Ah ya as I mentioned I am no welder. But I seem to remember “If there’s slag, you drag” now that u mention it. What does “synergic” mean anyway? I know it has to do with automatically setting the wire speed with the heat, and I’ve learned that it seems to work better to use that mode with flux core. Another thing, I found out tips are available at the local farm store.
@@rustyoldjunk It means 'coacting'/ collaborating and simply 'working together'. The word 'synergetic' does exist but welder companies are using the word synergic per se, espousing the point of 'working with the weld conditions to 'adjust' them slightly (electrically). It's done through the electronic fields and resonance/modulation as I was mutually explained. But anyways, it does seem to have a better effect on some welders than others. I've honestly never tried that with FC so you convinced me to try that and see what effect if any it has with my ArcCaptain too. Cheers!
