Proof that it pays to never give up, regardless of how you may be viewing the competition from your current vantage point... I use this frequently as an example when speaking at conferences. It is often better to focus on things within ones contriol as opposed to becoming distracted with fighting the competition. For other perspectives, see my blog at www.rockcheetah.com/blog/

Its okay that no one will probably see this and most likely why I'm putting it here but this is my secret sole purpose of keeping the keepin on going after the shit thats been shat. So much shitty shatting. In some deranged peaceful way i feel connected to or at least attempting to make a call to say you guys, these guys are my heroes and its nice to have someone to look up to. I wish my line meets up with the defiant weightless ones someday.

To the people saying he never gave up, he literally talked to his coach before the race and knew he couldn't keep with them so he basically conceded to them and stayed in the back of the race the whole time hoping that they would crash at the end and they did. He had a strategy in mind and it worked to perfection. Has nothing to do with no giving up.

Every race and every competion is about the moment, it is about being the best athlete in the moment and only that. yes tranining and all this is a factor, but the fundamnetal thing is being the best athelete in the moment, and Steven bradbury was that, he was the best athelete in that moment, the others failed, they fell theyr were not the best atheletes in the moment, Steven bradbury did not fall and thus was the best in the moment, a very well deserved gold byt the superior athlete in the race at the moment

I feel like the nature of our reality is fraying around the edges. I remember the 2006 Winter Olympics being in Salt Lake, not the 2002 ones.. I am certain it was in Salt Lake in 06 because we had just moved to CO and we were considering driving over just to see the craziness. This is really, really strange.

I think a lot of people misunderstand the basic idea of this race. Staying back and being prepared for the leaders to fall is an accepted tactic in speed skating; Bradbury himself later said that it was recommended that if you were slower than the lead, you stay in touch with them but hold back. It often can get you into the next stage of the race. It seldom gets you the gold medal, but as we see here - in exceptional circumstances, even that is possible! :)

Dudes, staying on your feet is the basic of basics for this sport. He got the medal because he was the only one who did it right. SIMPLE RULES. YOU WILL NOT GET GOLD IF YOU DID NOT FINISH THE RACE
