As far as I know it will not mark stainless. This is removing the paint from the stainless steel and just showing the metal where the paint has been removed 👍🏻

@@MARCAM I'm running an entry level Two Trees 5.5W laser next to this PC as I type, all you need to use is a Sharpie pen or some black spray paint onto a 2B stainless finish, you need to go very slow admittedly but it will engrave the Ink/Paint into the top few micron layers of the stainless steel. You'll have a better effect using a brushed No.4 finish. Then just clean the paint off using Acetone/Xylene mix etc. It leaves quite a solid engraving. (I run a 4KW Co2 at work for a living, 25 years experience and this diode laser is fun to learn).

@Eschelonistic ooh now this sounds like something I will have to try out! I was recently given a 10w to test (recent video that I’m also giving away) and that marked stainless steel by itself. Its a fun little machine for doing little projects with metal 👍🏻

@@MARCAM 10W will do it easily and a lot faster, be interested to see your results. Not viable running the 5.5W as it's painfully slow (200-300mm/min) but for a one off here and there it does the job. Messing with frequencies and pulse rates on a 4KW machine is killer, half the time you can read the engraving on the back of even 3mm thick SS if your power ramps just a little off. Much prefer diode for the ease of control over the power, fun toy so far!

Photoshop has a lot of tools and ways to do something similar but nothing I have found that works as well. The reason it’s down with the website and Inkscape is to make it a vector. You could follow the tutorial and export it to png to then import into photoshop?

The light was only stopped when adding a good few coats of black to the back. Before that light passed through the same colour as the paint 👍🏻

I use PET film. It’s great as it comes in many colours but it’s also laser safe

I don’t think using something like paint would help cutting I’m afraid. Does a diode not cut through card stock? I don’t think I’ve ever tried that myself.

Mine is a fake foam type of tile I installed to cover my bad job of using plasterboard to build a room inside of my workshop 😂 I can imagine the one in your grandfathers house being made from a real craftsman back in the day and looking a lot better in person 😊

If you got lost halfway through I’d recommend going back to the beginning and starting again. It is as simple as upload and clicking go. If you want to make them look any better though then you’ll have to actually put some time in and learn a bit more of something like Inkscape.

You can also go to your settings in the upper right hand corner of this video and slow down the speed from normal to about .75

I tend to leave it in there about a minute, shake out the bubbles and dip again. Shouldn’t take more than 3 or 4 dips 👍🏻

I always use just a simple acrylic paint. It’s cheap and applies very well 👍🏻

Thank you for watching :) The image was just created as a 2d flat image with plenty of variations with blacks, whites and greys to try and get as much detail from the laser and the slate as possible to give it that “faux” 3d effect 👍🏻

Not the only one to mention this 😅 I really need to check the mic settings along with the plugin settings I use to adjust the audio. Sounds fine to me but probably because I know what I’m saying 😅

You’re not the first person to say that. I always check the video on the pc when editing and again on my phone and always sounds good to me. Maybe I’ve got really sensitive hearing 🤷🏻‍♂️ I’ll have to edit it louder than I think needed on my next video 👍🏻

@@MARCAM If you think it's loud enough, methinks you must have some bat genes! ;-) Jokes aside and not knowing what editing s/w you're using, there should be some VU meter type of thingy, and maybe a 'normalise' function for the audio track in most of them. Look after these sponsored videos! ;-)

@zpinkLondonBelow 😂 yeah the dodgy Welsh accent isn’t the best. My editing skills are not the best, especially with audio. I should really look into it at some point

@@MARCAM I lived in Wales for 10 years or so, just a mile over the border, but still in Wales, so it's not the accent. hahaha I guessed it wasn't your favourite thing to do, hence I hinted that there may be a 'normalise'. Which is basically lifting the loudest peak to 0dB. Of course, if there are many such peaks, the RUclips or any other algorithms will punish you by lowering the volume, but that shouldn't be the case with a video like this. You can aim at having the peaks at -1dB or so, one would imagine....

@zpinkLondonBelow greatest country on earth 😜 I usually just use a plug-in built into the editing software and allow it to adjust the audio automatically. I’ll have to look into the normalising of it all. Spent a fair bit of money on a good mic so the least I can do 👌🏻

Thank you very much. Glad it helped you out :) I was in the exact same boat. Always avoided using it in photoshop because of how impossible it always seemed to get it to line up just right. The pen tool in Inkscape is so much more user friendly I find and can use it without any problems.

It’s usually made from polyethylene which is safe to laser. Most companies will use this to protect their acrylic as people will laser cut items and leave this film on to help protect against any scratches.

Thanks for the input :) You are right, that is a much easier way and it’s something I wouldn’t mind trying in the future. I think I’ll need to invest in a vinyl cutter though to be able to cut out the stickers property 👍🏻

@@MARCAM ah no problem I hope you don't think I was being negative I used the silhouette cameo 4 it's a brilliant machine and the software is free for the basic edition I have the business edition. The only downside with the basic edition it will let you load an Svg but won't re-save as an Svg so you would have to make the design in light burn or xtool etc then load it in to silhouette studio :)

Cheers 👍🏻 It turned out so much better than I thought. Didn’t think the 3d effect would work on mirror. They are such cheap mirrors too. Just £1 each so easy to make profit on 👌🏻 Nice little haul then! That will definitely keep you busy for sure!! I need to do more slate projects soon!

I’m not too sure but can check with the manufacturer. Looking at the US website that gives prices for an idea, looks like the Mira 5s is roughly £5,500 and currently the standard 5 is about £4,500

I honestly don’t measure it. Just pour a good amount in and stir it up. I’d say 2 teaspoons to a pint would be a good amount though 👍🏻
