Two Steps Back: Selected Competition Maps (Part 2)
The Mikeastro and Thinking with Portals discord servers have recently teamed up for a joint mapping competition! In the first part of the competition, members of the Mikeastro server have to create a puzzle the old-fashioned way - just pure Puzzlemaker, without any bells and whistles from BEEMod. In the second part, the winners from the first part will be recreated in Hammer from members of the TWP server.
In this video are the Puzzlemaker maps from the first part of the competition. There were so many amazing entries in this competition that I couldn't fit all of my blind runs into one video! This is the second of the two videos, containing maps released closer to the contest's deadline....

Trapped (Portal 2 mod): Blind Playthrough
Просмотров 2112 часов назад
Trapped is a short and sweet mod for Portal 2 that exceeded my expectations. The puzzles were quite visually impressive, although I seemed to have broken the second part by skipping one entire area that contained a cube. I only found two of the ten switches for the secret - I have no idea where the other eight could be found. Nice work overall! Download Trapped at the following link: www.moddb....
The Talos Principle 2: Road to Elysium - Episode 10 - Isle of the Blessed (Part 7)

Isle of the Blessed is completed in this episode. I really enjoyed the relaxing vibes, interacting with all the characters, and the puzzles were just the right level of challenging for me. I was wary about the Hexahedron going into it, but it was quite fun to work through as well! We complete the green puzzles and activate the corresponding lighthouse in this episode. Most of the puzzles here felt a bit tougher than in the previous episode - I'm enjoying the level of challenge this section of the DLC has brought so far! After completing Orpheus Ascending, we move on to Isle of the Blessed. I'm already loving this part of the DLC, with the peaceful and relaxing tropical island environment and the interactions between all the characters we got to know and love in the main game. I also think it's neat that we get to play as Yaqut and hear 1k speak for the first time. Road to Elysium is a three-part coda that allo...
Wibi!Data (Portal 2 mod): Blind Playthrough

Throughout the month of July I will occasionally be dropping videos of my blind runs of some more smaller Portal 2 mods. The first of these is Wibi!Data - this was only made to help recruit employees for a now-defunct company, oddly enough. This mod actually exceeded my expectations - the puzzles were fun to play and a bit challenging to solve at times, and looked quite good. Overall a fun expe...

We finish the remaining puzzles in the sky sphere and behind the golden gates in this video, and help reunite Hypatia and Sarabhai in life once again. Thanks for playing my map! Funnily, I've seen a number of people go for the tight trick shot to get the funnel. There's actually a much more elegant solution that doesn't involve ninja moves.

    Yeah, this is more of what I wish the whole DLC was like. I appreciate the laser-centric Orpheus part, but from what I hear Abyss is laser-heavy too, which is a shame because there are so many tools besides lasers. At least I get some of that with Isle of the blessed

    How bizarre - I thought that surely the whole recruitment thing would have been some in-mod narrative novelty, but I looked it up and this really was made by a company for such a purpose. Very interesting to look at from that perspective.

    There's no inconsistency, the vanilla game works that way too. If you mean the vanilla mechanic seems inconsistent, I think it makes sense that you only have to follow the rules of something that's actually there, since you can't make a 0x0 shape with the line drawing.

    Congrats asears, I'm glad you enjoyed the game! I also stopped at some point after doing most of the stuff I found interesting, I didn't find joy in hunting every last little thing like Nock was able to find joy in. It was cool to see everything in Nock's hunt though, just a shame those streams were never archived. At least your videos are archived here, they've been great to watch, thank you :) A lot of people complain about that hour long environmental line btw, and I understand why, it certainly wastes a lot of time for certain speedrun categories. In an isolated play6through though I think it's fine.

    Somehow I did the challenge twice without ever understanding how to get through the maze nor how to find the puzzles in it. Every time I made it that far I just wandered aimlessly. It's only slightly relieving to know there's a way to know where to go, but that's offset by the fact it requires memorization or snapping a picture with your phone :p

    Certainly lots of intrigue here, though I can see why some of these puzzles didn't make the cut for mainline puzzles. The invisible elements ones are just an annoying memorization gimmick, for example. (Though we did get invisible symmetry as a recurring mechanic outside... bleh)

    2:00 while technically possible from this angle, I've seen people do it with much more ease from above in the treehouses, not sure whether this is intended or not.

    Forcing us to re-solve these four giant floor puzzles with more specific requirements is a brilliant move, especially given some of the obstacles you have to overcome even when you know the solution. For example, the paint spill, or having to walk in specific gaps to get around the rubble blockage. Stuff like this is why I easily dismiss criticisms that this game could have just been a 2D mobile game.

  • @LB_

    I had to keep coming back to the green bridge multiple times in my playthrough, it was quite challenging. It leads to some peaceful places though. 11:18 heh, funny to solve this finally after all this time.

    Apparently a lot of people didn't reload their save after the fakeout ending and instead just proceeded into the other ending in the empty save slot. I can't imagine being so careless with save data that way lol... seems you and I are similar in that regard.

    The idea of panels with wrapping borders is cool. The idea of making them actual 3D cylinders is fun in theory and annoying in practice. Also it ignores the possibility of letting both directions wrap around instead of just one direction, I'm still disappointed that wasn't explored.

  • @LB_
    @LB_ 2 месяца назад

    The dual-line puzzle is my favorite puzzle in the whole game, and I'm so sad they never expanded upon this concept at all. The idea of having to juggle multiple lines in the same puzzle grid is ripe with potential.

  • @LB_
    @LB_ 2 месяца назад

    I like how initially you think you can just overlay all the panels to form one puzzle, but then you realize some elements are overlapping / occupy the same cell. I wonder why that concept wasn't expanded upon further.

  • @LB_

    Realizing you could walk through part of the central column took me a while. Nice work.

  • @LB_
    @LB_ 2 месяца назад

    Nice work. The mountaintop puzzle is intriguing due to its use of 3D perspectives despite being a "2D" puzzle, it makes you wonder how it must have been designed. IIRC it wasn't perfect originally though, at initial release people were finding unintended ways to solve it where you didn't have to draw the line from one side to the opposite side, so they changed it to make the unintended exits disappear while drawing. I don't remember what I did in my playthrough or if I played before or after that patch.

    Haha, I was just replaying this game last week and got this achievement. This level was great fun! I love the base game, even though execution is needed, the time slow ability makes moves easy to do…but the Desmond debacle and especially Ike-aramba dlcs are not as fun imo

    13:23 LOL by taking out and putting back in the IDS Battery, you messed up the game's scripting. Surprised they didn't test that. The main breaking point for this game with me is the excessive reliance on random/inconsistent physics and execution-based challenges instead of puzzles. The rest of the aesthetics are great though, I especially like the music. The game does feel rather hollow though with all the duplicated art assets, only some duplicates of which get comments from the narration. It feels a bit rushed.
