Paul Mealor - Now Sleeps the Crimson Petal
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.7 лет назад
Exeter University Singers perform Paul Mealor’s, ‘Now Sleeps the Crimson Petal’, a fantastic example of choral music offering reincarnation to aged texts. Set to Tennyson's sonnet of the same name, this piece was performed at the royal wedding of 2011, with a change of text to suit the service, and offers so much to us. The music itself has a sense of tremendous space, which suits our chapel’s ...
Ēriks Ešenvalds - Only in Sleep

Exeter University Singers perform Ērik Ešenvalds’ ‘Only in Sleep’, the first of four recordings taken in June 2017. "Written in 2010, Sara Teasdale’s nostalgic vision of childhood re-experienced through dreams is expressed in simple verse in regular metre, which Ešenvalds matches in music of regular four-bar phrases. But infinitely subtle are the chord voicings; a change from humming to vocalis...

It is certainly a rich fabulous rendition of one of the greatest hymns. Very moving. My only prayer would be that the bbc do more of this, like they used to ,and less lefty trash indoctrination.

After Hastings the saxon women assembeled in Exeter. The cathedral had been started in 1050, before the orthodox-catholic schism. This evokes the passing of the saxon church so well.

I love this piece and will be singing in it as a tenor in a concert this weekend. There are many great interpretations around. I feel this version brings something different that I really like. The solo part has a lovely simplicity. The sound scape is also fantastic. Love the emphasis on 'yet we played last night.' Thank you so much to all involved.

Abide with Me [Lyrics] ☆ Abide with me; fast falls the eventide; The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide; When other helpers fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, oh, abide with me. Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day; Earth’s joys grow dim, its glories pass away; Change and decay in all around I see- O Thou who changest not, abide with me. I need Thy presence every passing hour; What but Thy grace can foil the tempter’s pow’r? Who, like Thyself, my guide and stay can be? Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me. I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless; Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness; Where is death’s sting? Where, grave, thy victory? I triumph still, if Thou abide with me. Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes; Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies; Heav’n’s morning breaks, and earth’s vain shadows flee; In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.
