A Leap of Faith Great Loop
США
Добавлен 2 авг 2024
Ahoy all! We are Peter and Beth. We are embarking upon the journey of a lifetime aboard our boat "A Leap of Faith VI" in September. We plan to record our trip on the American Great Loop, a 6000+ mile counter clockwise circumnavigation of the eastern half of the United States. We will upload our trips as we go, so that you can see what we have seen. Sit back and enjoy the voyage!
Airboat Tour Part 2 Grasslands 1-26-25
This part of our tour was really interesting. With all the cold weather Florida has gotten quite dry. The water in the grasslands is really low, in fact the boat bottomed out when we stood still. The deepest water we had was 5 inches! The allowed the captain to do a ton of sliding and drifting. It was awesome to experience it. We did see another gator at the end of this tour that had seen better days. He was missing his left front leg and the lower part of his jaw. Our captain explained he'd probably lost it in a fight, and he was still in the grasslands to keep from having to confront more danger from other gators. Quite interesting!

Airboat Tour Part 1 Mangrove Maze 1-26-25
Просмотров 204 часа назад
We did go on two separate airboat tours yesterday. The first one in Part 1 is the mangrove maze. It was super cool to go running so fast in these tight spaces. After months of avoiding crabpots and snags it was a little unnerving to have the boat run right over them! The boats run on Chevy 350 engines and they really scream. On this ride we got to hear the captain on the headset which was also ...
Day 115 Indian Isle Key to Everglades Isle Marina, Everglades City 7 miles 1-24-25
Просмотров 387 часов назад
We weren’t going to be able to go into the river until high tide, so we took our time getting up this morning. It’s still cold! This morning it was 54 degrees inside the boat! Outside it was 40! That’s super cold for the Everglades. When we finally got the motivation we put the dinghy up on the davits, and heated up brunch. (Both need us to run the generator for power.) Putting the dinghy up re...
Day 114 Marco Island to Indian Isle Key 31 miles 1-23-25

After the two day blow Pete was itching to get going. We did our research, It was going to be a 3-4 hour cruise today because we sat still yesterday. Forecast told us that it may reach 60 today and the waves on the Gulf were going to be 1-2 ft. We headed out at about 9 am with a north wind blowing. Factory Bay was relatively calm, so we were good to go. We pulled up both anchors and I was cover...
Day 112 Naples to Marco Island 27 miles 1-21-25
Просмотров 1567 часов назад
The weather was still cold when we left Naples, but the winds were strong at 12 mph. We had wavy conditions, but not too bad. When we got to Marco Island we had differing opinions about where to anchor. We ended up anchoring in a bay open to the north winds which were becoming stronger. We set out two anchors to hunker down from the blow, and we ended up staying two nights because the winds wer...
Day 109-111 Naples City Marina 1-18-25 through 1-20-25

Yesterday we did something unusual. We booked a tour boat to tour the Naples areas! Pete sent out eldest a text saying, “Is it crazy to be excited about a boat tour when you live a boat tour?” The answer is “of course,” but we got to hear the history of the neighborhoods that began in the 1950’s when a young entrepreneur decided to dredge some channels and build his home. Several other guys did...
Day 108 Naples Anchorage to Naples City Marina 2 miles 1-17-25

It was only two miles from the anchorage to the marina, but we got "waked" a bunch of times on the way. I said it yesterday, but the speed limit on the Gordon Pass is 30 miles per hour, so the boats really go out there. We did have trouble trying to pull up anchor and I had to manhandle the last ten feet or so to get it tied up around the cleat. We'll have to take care of that later. It was qui...
Driving home from church via scooter 1-11-25

Created with the #GoPro App on my iPad.While here we took our scooters all over the island. Sanibel is very bike friendly and they have bike trails that parallel the main roads, so it’s easy to get around. The marina is on the north side of the island so we went to the south side. I was here as a little girl but I don’t remember the MOUNDS of shells that are on the beach! We also walked the dog...

Naples Neighborhood Tour 1-15-25

This high end neighborhood is at the mouth of Gordon Pass and the Gulf of Mexico in Naples Florida. These homes are on the canals that shoot off of the Pass, and the canals are typically 6-10 feet deep depending upon the shoaling. We took about 2 hours to look around the area and got some pretty impressive views. A Zillow search revealed that some of these whoppers are worth a quarter of a Bill...
Day 107 Big Carlos to Naples Anchorage 26 miles 1-16-25

Like I said we found ourselves with 4.5 ft under us the morning and waited a while for the tide to raise. We still had to travel “the outside” today and we had a three hour voyage ahead of us. We began a little after 10 am and had some pretty nice seas. About an hour or so into our trip the seas kicked up with some gusty winds and we were riding 3-4 ft waves. It wasn’t dicey… heck, we ride thos...
Day 106 Ft Myers Beach to Big Carlos Anchorage 10 miles 1-15-25

Today is officially our fourth month on the Loop. We left exactly 4 months ago. It was a calm day and not much to talk about. We traveled on “the outside” again, which put us into the unprotected waters of the Gulf of Mexico, but we had 1-2 ft waves. Still cool, but the sun shone all day. When we arrived at the channel into Big Carlos Channel we found that there was construction on the bridge t...

Pete got up first as usual and went up to the helm to shut off the anchor light and check our depth. When we woke up it was a super low tide. The depth meter said -. As he looked around he didn’t think we were aground but it’s happened before. As he let the meter warm up it finally showed that our depth was 4.5 ft. We draw 3.25 ft. so we were ok. Today we are headed in to the Pink Shell Resort ...

Woke up early to get to church. It was a half hour scooter ride to get there and it was in the low 50s. It has been such a blessing to be able to make it to church for every Sunday since we started our journey. The scooters have been an awesome investment. After mass we took the long way back to the marina to get some footage on the GoPro of the damage Sanibel sustained two years ago when Hurri...
Day 101 Pine Island Sound Anchorage to Sanibel Marina 26 miles 1-10-25

Finally a bit warmer! When we took off at 9 am it was 53 degrees and when we arrived in Sanibel the winds had turned from the east to the south and we hit 65 when we arrived at the docks! The wind still was blowing and it made it pretty choppy even in the Intracoastal Waterway! As I have said before, when you get into wider areas on the ICW there are channels going all over, and you have to be ...

Just found your channel! Best of luck on your journey! Be well!!!🤗🤗🤗
The strips looks gloomy and cold I wish you could see the Everglades in sunshine
Does Gracie stay on the boat when you leave to go places?
Yes Faith. When we work she spends 8+ hours a day in the condo. Same for the boat, although she is rarely alone for that long on the boat! We set her up with water and A/C if needed. She naps most of the day now that she's 16 anyway!
Wow😮 we thought the Radlers had a really good place when we visited them many years ago but we really did not go to the beach area unbelievable houses when I talk to my friend in Florida yesterday she said it has been very cold and they wear jackets every time they go out good luck on the beaches😂😊
Is there anywhere along those bike paths where you could charge up an electric scooter or bike?
We didn't notice any charging stations along the way, but we weren't looking either.
It looks like your scooters go well I can see the leftover damage of trees dead end just alive long to watch but I did it anyway😮😊
Some of the boats docked in front of those billion dollar homes aren't too shabby either!
Exactly! Right?
We were calling them cruise ships.
Correct name is Ft Myers not Meyers
Great edit!
Love it. Gracie looks good!
0:11 Bet the dogs loving it!
She is!!
If I make a video about being out in the ocean, in the middle of no where it’s gonna scare ppl
We are documenting a year long journey. Sometimes it is scary!
Happy Thanksgiving to both of you looks great even in the fog.
Being invited to dinner was such a blessing.
That's so cool!
I didn't comment last time what is Sony to see Gracie wagging her tail at 😊her new friends. It has to be a little scary to be boating in the fog love you, Mom
It is a little scary to go in the fog. Way more comfortable than our alternative. Four foot waves!
What happened to the Looper flag that was on the front of the boat?
Wish I would have seen it go! The winds took it while we were fighting the waves. We'll pick one up next weekend at St. Marks FL where our next marina is.
I'd be getting sea sick for sure! Stay safe you guys!
Thanks Faith. We are fortuanate to not have that motion sickness! Neither one of us. In fact, we crossed Lake Michigan in 2020 in 10 footers. Our oldest was seasick, but neither one of us.
Love it! Looks nice from snowy Wisconsin!
We heard about the snow. We're in a cold snap down here, too. High of 66 today and lows in the 50's! :-)
I love the idea of the wild life 😁
Hey there! How's your/our boat running:-) ?
Danny, It;s doing great! Loving it! Dolphins this morning in the cove we are in!
Hope you are doing well… show us Gracie
We are good! We will get more Gracie up. She is camera shy!
I did find out what the White cliffs are made of chalk from microbes of shells thousands of years ago how interesting😊
Wow, even being docked looks cool!
With all that being said, it still sounds better than a day at work lol. Safe travels, will definitely be watching your progress! I saw Ahren and Michelle yesterday and they told me about the channel, glad I found it!
Thanks for subscribing! Glad you joined us!
Has Gracie ever fallen off the boat?
The only time she did was on the Milwaukee River. She was on the bow of our bowrider in front of the Rock Bottom Brewpub. Pete beeped the horn to salute the people having lunch there, and scared the dog so much that she lost her footing and fell into the river. The collective gasp from everyone was audible and so the the cheer when Peter was able to recover her from the water!!
Jenny says "She's happy you are having a good time." And "As we ceossed the Mississippi we were thinking about you. 🤗⛵
Thank you so much Jenny and Steve!
Looks like a beautiful lake
It is! Lots of activity on it as well!
He learned from the best!
We enjoying your video updates! Thanks for posting.
We were in Southern Missouri but very far from you guys. Thought about meeting up, but had to get back. Loving your videos. Take care. 🤗⛵
How beautiful
I am so tickled to see the waterfall from the water it looks good and sounds fantastic from the water enjoy
Too bad it’s that cold in the morning. Take care ❤
Do these marinas have laundry facilities? Wondering where you do your laundry?
Yes. All of the marinas we have been to have laundry rooms.
So what do those houses do for water and sewer?
No idea. We didn't ask.
Glad to see you guys doing well. Ed & Danyal
I can't believe it's been 25 days already!
Hard to believe it on this end too! We have been blessed with warmer than usual temps and cool nights! Today is actually exactly 4 weeks! (It's Sunday, my videos have a lag.)
Very interesting and good to see I couldn't hear all the banter but I can imagine it I assume that you're going to another place to enjoy some of the scenery and take some time love you, Mom and Dad we have returned from Door county😊❤😮
Strong current I see
Yes and it gets stronger
I’m praying for your safety. Where are you guys right now?
We are on the Kentucky Lake. We are not close to Florida so we are fine. Pray for the safety of those in the path of Milton!
I'm wondering if you're kind of following with or behind the boat that's ahead of you in the movie it looks like they're keeping your eye on them❤ you know I love maps so I'm keeping track of where you are it's fun trying to find you on my Eastern United States map love you, Mom
We have been travelling together with Traveller and Blessings Flow. Others have joined us and others have moved beyond us.
