Briggs LO206 Service. HUGE HP GAINS!!
Completely unnecessary to torque those.
What is exactly a good compression number for the 206
How make air pressure are you using on tester when doing leak down test hood video
About 15PSI
Thanks jeff
I don't think briggs engines like me very much 😂
@@Kallenbennettracing Just make sure as soon as you shut the engine off after a session you pull the recoil starter until it feels tight. Can’t wait for our next race!!👊🏽
15% seems excessive for an out of the box l206. I check mine religiously and they are never above 5%. When I check my leakdown after I get it back from an engine builder it is below 1% cold.
So this engine had three days of running on it. In my experience it’s common the valve like to leaks after the first few heat cycles. After the seats are lapped up and run on the dyno they read close to zero cold like you said.
What brand of seat cutter do you use?
@@ryankretz2214 Neways
What oil do you use for racing? Did you dyno’ed different ones? Thanks for those videos! It helps a lot! Saving money!
I was guessing upper for failure.. Then punched the window and then broke at the crank. I just wonder off the flip had anything to do with it? Like over reving upside down? Great vid!
You're missing a rod bolt - it could be a connecting rod bolt failure. That would also be consistent with seeing minimal damage to the rod journal and cylinder wall.
So I had to repost this vid. Previous version had some comments about how the rod bolts can come loose which may be the cause of the failure.
Shout out to @spencergiles72 for all the great feedback!!✌
Thanks for sanity checking the results. What tipped you off that something was wrong? Why did the highest horsepower at the largest lash not make sense?
Nice! Aggressive on the gearing. On the limiter much earlier than I would have expected.
Ya we added 2 teeth from Heat 1, 1 to help getting through the pack and another to help with pushing through the wind.
Awesome tutorial and info!
Is there only one braking zone there?
Just a small tap of the brake in the first turn and a few throttle lifts on this layout.
Question: Valve lapped and set the valve lash. Piston cycles fine until I put in the spark plug is put in even part way I can really pull the starter as the piston no longer cycles. Is this a valve lash issue or something else? Thanks D
Probably the lash, I would start over and make sure the piston is at top dead center on the compression stroke before you set the lash.
@@robbinsracing801you are right. Looks like what I thought was TDC looking through the spark plug port was not. I took off the header, put it to TDC and when I checked my lash was way off. Reset the lash with real TDC and Bam back in business. Thanks man!
U should do voice overs the driving to give more perspective would be cool. Nice vids tho
Nice racing
Another thing to try is moving the exhaust silencer on the pipe
Great idea let's try that, I think changing the exhaust length is more of a 2 stroke thing but we'll find out!
Sorry to be negative but the music really sucks. Its hard to hear what you are saying. Also, how consistent is this dyno? no point trying to find 0.5 HP if, with no changes, Dyno runs show a variation of 1 hP.
Hey John, You're more than welcome to watch someone else's videos.
@@robbinsracing801 My first statement was "constructive critisism"..The rest were genuine questions about the accuracy of the dyno. Not knocking your efforts, just asking how repeatable runs are. Great seeing peeps like yourself making dynos etc.
Thanks a lot for fixing my engine and tuning it up 😂 I just did a practice today with the 1st time with that motor and it rips!!!
Definitely looking forward to watching you race this weekend👊
I feel sorry for your neighbors 🤣
They shouldn't have put in a chicken coupe 😂
Do you cut the hub key too? If you cut the axle with the normal key it won’t slide all the way to the end of the hub
I don't cut the key, to be honest I've never measured the width with the Hubs slid all they way in with and without a cut axle. I can usually see able 10 mil of the key with my hubs mounted.
Might have missed it, but what was the exhaust lash for these pulls?
@@spencergiles72 .002in
How much does the 206 refresh usually cost. Out here in Tooele
Between 200 and 250 depending on normal wear and tear parts needed.
You installed the weights backwards from how they came out. Which is correct?
You can run them either way. Leading or Trailing shoes. I just put them back on the hub to store everything together.
Why not put the weights on the opposite side of the engine but on the frame?
Easier to mount to the seat. If you have a way to securely mount to the frame you could but it's very common practice to mount to the seat in go karting.
Interesting results. Sort of supports the idea that a faster opening of intake valve (although delayed) may cause more air to be drawn into the cylinder even with the shorter duration of opening. Odd to see the dip in HP @.004. How many pulls do you do for each lash setting? It will be interesting to see how the exhaust lash settings affect the overlap and torque.
thank you
You and #514 out there putting on a show. Awesome finish line photo.
Could be vapor lock. You got the fuel pump right on top of the head don't you? Probably building up heat and vapor pressure. You never know though until you find it.
Hi! Are you on Instagram? Or Facebook? I would like to write to you in private message.. Do you have a project of your test bench?
I will definitely attest that this engine is not down on power! Love racing with you guys!
Love these videos. They are so detailed. Keep them coming. Thank You!
Thanks for the positive feedback!!
What brand of grease do you use?
Maxima Waterproof Grease
I like to replace the "washer" shack-up with an aluminum bushings made to the same dimensions.
I use faster adjusters on our seat now.
@@robbinsracing801 That is very cool!
This is great stuff. I've been really looking into optimizing my engines beyond the usual (float, clip, etc) and lash was one of the things I've been experimenting with. Thank you for sharing this. I've been doing some research (some of it from your posts on 4cycle and here) and it seems that there are two benefits to lash: increasing lash increases rate of opening of the valve, which can increase power; and changing valve overlap can move the powerband around. I tested this awhile back with my local tuner and we noticed that increasing intake lash noticeably increased torque but shifted the powerband to the left and we lost some horsepower. If I understand correctly, increased intake lash can *reduce* overlap because the intake valve doesn't open as soon as it normally would when the exhaust valve is closing, effectively reducing overlap. Out of curiosity, when you ran the tests for 0.06 and up, your AFRs shot up to near stoich. Would this be because the exhaust valve is opening later and i.e. allowing for more complete combustion?
YO thanks for the comment!! I also noticed the AFR change. I think it would be what you stated, maybe a fraction more amount air getting into the camber due to it opening later?? I think we'll learn a bit more once I get the lash testing done when I move just one at a time.
Sooooo, the Lamba went to 1.0 because the sensor died while doing the tests. Just finished tuning an IAME Mini Swift and had to replace the sensor.
I like "dials" because there batteries do not go dead.
Can't argue with that. I would definitely agree I hate when the batteries die.
Thank you for doing this test and for doing it methodically. I look forward to the tests where you hold the intake constant while changing the exhaust (or vice versa). A request - any chance you have multiple runs with the same engine settings? I'd like to know what is the run to run variability so that when there are results for different conditions, we can have an idea of how much of the change is run to run variability vs the change in the condition. Thanks again!
please give some more information on this video...thanks
Hey there good videos I have a old dynamite kart engine dyno the software is super old the company has gone out of business do you know of a company I can get newer software from to get mine going again
I hear good things about the Company "YourDyno" though I personally have no experience with them.
Lapping valves with the drill is a no-no. I was scolded by a well known machinist. A back and forth motion using a suction cup tool is the best way.
Everyone has their own way and opinion. It works for me so I shall continue with the drill method.
Nice videos! On the leak test does the gauge on the left say the pressure is 15 PSI? Was curious if you have increased this pressure. Thank you! Keep up the good work!
I have a question. I used to ride karts growing up, everything from trikes, yard karts. My pride was my dart kart. Anyway, I'm 53ish now and finally got a used PRC kart. The motor is a beast. Fastest engine in a kart I've ever driven. My question is, how do i tell what kind of motor. The guy said it's a cyclone but I'm unsure as he sounded. He said it is a stage 3. How does one tell about that without opening it up? So now I scour through the videos.
Hey Kirk, without seeing it it would be hard to tell. I would take a picture and post it on Bobs 4cycle karting forum. The best guys in the business are in there! 4cycle.com/karting/
What oil is best to use?
I only use the Briggs 4T by Amsoil.
Great explanations, videos, love that you are data driven, and I really like how you use your tools i.e. with a lot of respect and care! A couple of questions for you. Around 14:00 you were taking measurements using the protractor and a depth gauge. Was that to profile the cam? What were you looking for? I'll recheck but i haven't seen you do a carb service video. Could you please consider doing one? Thank you.
Thanks great video!!!
Where did you buy the 30 degree additional cutter from?
www.cylinderheadsupply.com/cu126.html
Great video. This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank You!
I got an issue with my lo206 in senior class. Once the engine reaches 48 mph the engine gives a "popping" sound. It almost sounds like its hitting a rev limiter. Would a fix be a tuning on the engine, valve timing, or something with the carburetor? Also once i reach the speed where the sound starts i slightly lift off because i am not sure if it is fine for the engine or not and I see others in my class getting up to 51 mph just fine with no "popping" sound.
So my gut is telling me it's too lean up top, try lowering your float height to start. I would also with the engine not running remove the filter, pull the throttle cable and insure your getting full throttle. Definitely worth throwing in a new plug just to rule that out too.
Maybe check the kill switch wiring too for any shorts.
Would you be kind enough to point me in the right direction on the kit for cutting the valves? We are not allowed to change the profile in the UK. Thanks in advance!
You'll need the kit and the 30 degree cu126 cutter is separate. www.cylinderheadsupply.com/brstancukit.html
@@robbinsracing801 Thank you.
