    This was so helpful. I’ll get through it another time since I’ve just started journaling again!! One thing I mostly struggle with is that I use my phone when I’m tired, but not sleepy enough. I’ve tried to replace it with reading but it unfortunately doesn’t seem to help :o So what to do if you’re too tired to do anything except scrolling (which makes me even more tired).

    • @nowuc
      @nowuc 10 дней назад

      I’m stoked you found it helpful! and for sure, feel free to use this video as a resource whenever you need to. As far as answering your question, to be honest, I’ve never really experienced what you’re experiencing, but I’ll do my best to give you some tips. Some that I thought of just based on the info you gave me are: 1) I know it might seem random, but if you don’t already, consider starting to exercise. It sounds to me like maybe you’re mentally tired at the end of the day, but not physically, so doing exercise (ideally not too late in the day as this could actually activate your body through the release of endorphins) could help 2) if reading hasn’t helped, try doing some other “boring”/relaxing/less stimulating activity - like drawing, for example. kinda like the “counting sheep” exercise we’ve all heard of 3)Try the new habit longer (the one you’re replacing doomscrolling at night with) for a longer period of time. I may be assuming things here, but it sounds like maybe you tried reading for a few days and then when it didn’t give you the result you were expecting you went back to using your phone. Is that the case? because if so, then I think you could benefit from giving your brain more of a chance to adapt to the new habit. Changes take a while to be noticed, so trust that something is slowly happening, even if it feels like it isn’t 4) Try building an evening Routine - it’ll set up your brain and body to relax. For example, you can drink green or herbal tea, massage your body, do aromatherapy (buy yourself a diffuser with calming essential oils or some relaxing incense), listen to relaxing music (meditation or lofi), stretch or do gentle yoga, do breathing exercises, take a warm bath, meditate, or do any combination of these. You can combine with other suggestions 5) If reading really doesn’t work for you even after trying to do it for about a month or so, you can try switching it out for watching a long movie. something that at least requires your attention (instead of the short spurts of attention social media requires), but that’s slightly more stimulating than reading. ofc, consuming horror movies or really emotional/activating movies isn’t the move either tho, as this will likely affect your dreams and your sleep quality 6) Alternatively, listen to Audiobooks or to podcasts 7) Lastly, I’m not sure why you’re experiencing this and maybe you’re not either. So I recommend exploring why it is you can’t sleep. for example, Is your mind running a million miles an hour so you use your phone to distract yourself, but when you try to read it’s not distracting enough? If that’s the case, then confronting whatever it is that is making you anxious could be a more permanent solution, though you’re a better judge than me as to whether that’s something you actually want to/feel capable of doing that atm, whether on your own, with a friend/family member or a therapist. If you wanna chat more about this, feel free to dm me on IG so I can get a better idea of what’s going on bc atm I feel like I’m just making a lot of assumptions/generalizations also, sorry for the late reply. I wasn’t on my phone/computer too much today

    Thank you. Very useful tips! Social media takes too much time from me and it also makes me depressed. On the other hand, I am a writer and my publisher expects ”a presence” in the social media and to be present I should know what people talk about. This is a real problem which I am trying to solve.

      I'm glad you found them useful! Hopefully they can help you find a balance between spending time on your phone (for work or otherwise) and not. As far as having to use social media for work purposes.... I definitely feel you there. I've come across similar challenges since I'm trying to make this YT thing work. The good news is it is possible to do. Actually, I'm considering making my next video about general tips to break doomscrolling and phone addictions as a sort of follow-up to this one - would that be of interest/use to you? In the meantime, some things you might consider trying are: 1) setting aside very specific and very limited times to use social media and to go on there with the intention to work, not just to browse 2) using different devices for different purposes. for example, using a tablet or computer to go on social media when it's for work and a phone when it's for pleasure. this way there's a clear separation in your brain as to when you're doing what (same goes for tip #1) 3) hire someone to write social media posts for you 4) if those don't work, either talk to your publisher or consider hiring someone else for the job. ofc, I don't know your specific situation and I don't at all want you to influence you to do something you don't actually want to do, but it may be the work relationship you have with your publisher that isn't working for you

      I saw that you responded, but not sure where that comment is now. I agree, there's a lot of wisdom to be found in Stoicism... I actually find it to be pretty in-line with Buddhism, but my intention with this video wasn't to encourage people to stop practicing Spirituality. Quite the opposite. I think you can learn a lot from pain - even if it's just different ways to process it and/or lessen it. Though of course, you should never follow anything blindly and it's always a good idea to be open to changing or ending a practice if it no longer serves you (just as it's a good idea to remain open to picking it back up again if/when you see the value in it again).

      I was introduced to Stoicism by my Latin teacher. Growing up in Eastern Europe wasn’t easy, especially in terms of perspectives on the world and mental health. Stoicism helped me understand many things about the true nature of humanity, how one should view society, and how to think and behave in relation to oneself and the world.

    i think just being kind to myself and listening to my heart could lead to happiness. it is a weird state because we think happiness as a forever state rather than accepting it for what it is an emotion that comes and goes like any other moment. i hadn’t thought about how chasing happiness causes us to focus on the things making us unhappy thus digging the hole deeper. it seems like a pretty straightforward idea, yet i seem to lose sight of these foundation or simple ideas once im to deep into whatever it is im idealizing.

    • @nowuc
      @nowuc Месяц назад

      Hi Kurpluto, thank you for taking the time to write such a thoughtful response. I get what you mean. I think one of the reasons it’s hard to always keep sight of it is bc society (the people around us, marketing, etc) is constantly telling us that the key to happiness is in figuring out what you don’t have and then attaining it. And the worst part is that I think both sides have the potential to sound true. This is why I think we all have to take the time to dissect it for ourselves and see what’s true for *us.* Once you do, I think most if not all people would agree that happiness isn’t in anything external

    Hi, I'm Merve and I'm from Turkiye, I just woke up and was scrolling through videos feeling a bit down today, but your video helped me remember I'm not alone in my struggles. I wanted to say these to show you that even though maybe you feel like your channel has a long way to go, you're already out here helping random people :) I'm a big RUclips consumer for 'inspiration' as well, and I think you already have most of the things an interesting youtube channel needs. Not only effort in editing and amazing cover images for the videos but also things like having the courage to be completely open avout your own experiences to improve your content and hope it helps other people. I looked at your subscribers and couldn't believe it was not like 500K. I'm sure you'll get there someday, and even if I wasn't it still doesn't change the things I just said. Maybe you are already aware of what you can improve in the future but if you need an outside opinion, I think the volume of the video can improve, I don't know about your other videos yet but this one was a bit down in terms of volume when you talk and too loud in comparison at the outro animation. And again this is just me but more lively, having more intonation, "youtuber voice" talks attract more attention when listening. These are small things though, like if I had to find shortcomings comparing you to huge youtubers, which isnt a must so it still doesnt mean your channel isnt already awesome but again I thought maybe you would like an outside opinion. Looking forward to listening to your other videos, subscribed, and wish you the best in all your future endeavors!

      Hi Merve, thank you so much for the beautiful comment! I'm so sorry it took me so long to reply. I got a notification of a comment, but I couldn't find it in any of my videos so I thought maybe it was deleted or a false alarm. I really, really appreciate that you took the time to comment and I'm so happy that I could help you remember that you're not alone in this because you're not. We all go through hard days and hard times... I myself have had plenty throughout my journey lol. And I say this not to minimize what you're going through, but just to say that you can overcome your struggles too, whatever they may be (if you are open to it, you can dm me on IG, maybe I can help more if I know what you're going through). I've made a note of your feedback and you can be sure that I'll keep them in mind for future videos. I actually was just talking to someone about my lack of intonation lol. I know it may be something I have to work on, but this is also how I am in real life, so I'm not sure how much I'm willing to change it as one of my goals is to show myself as I am in real life... it's something I'll continue thinking about. As for the volume, that's an easy fix and I'm glad you let me know about it so that the viewing experience can be as easy as possible for everyone. Again, thank you!!

    Humor me. Lets say I am God. I see a human on Earth who daydreams of space and the "Mystery" of what all else could be out in the universe.... I make a deal to give this person the power to create anything they can imagine , draw, form, shape into reality and give them a bare planet to get started. The catch is this. I have trade marked every shape on earth and you can not copy: All Landscapes, Weather, Trees, Bushes, Flowers, Stones, Gems, Microbiology, Fish, Mammals, Birds, Insects, Humans and all of our engineering, Architecture. Even a Bucket. You get my point. Every Shape of all to ever exist on Earth from a Snake to a Octopus is trademarked by God. Ill leave out the fact everything depends and fits into a perfect role all at once in nature as well. Here is your planet ill be back to see what kind of art you came up with... God returns and the person says....Turns out there is nothing left to create.... I cannot draw anything new.... Turns out I had everything under my feet back on earth the whole time.

      Yes exactly. Our intelligence and creativity is borrowed from the Creator, Source. This reminds me of a conversation I had with my mom once. She was complaining about the weather - that it had been raining too many days in a row and that she wished it could always be dry and sunny. In response, I said “but if it was always dry and sunny, then a lot of plants would die and the rivers would dry up,” so she said, “okay, it can rain some days, but only at night,” so then said, “but then there wouldn’t be rainbows for us to enjoy,” etc etc. I don’t remember all the details, but the point is that we all think we want control and that the world we imagine in our heads is so much better than this world, but when we really break it down and think about it, we realize just how intricate and perfect this world already is and that we would have no chance of making a better one… we’re just not intelligent or creative enough.
