    Intarsia is supposedly having a comeback this year. Makes sense, since I made my daughter a baby sweater with an intarsia heart 21 years ago, and the fashion cycle is about 20 years. I found it much easier than stranded colourwork, since there are no tension issues with floats. I recently finished a hood for myself (the Bonbec), and now my eldest son wants one too, but with “some patterning”, as he says. So I’m working on another Bonbec, but added an improvised band of mosaic colourwork (easier than stranded). Doesn’t look too bad. I’ll post them on my Ravelry when I finish the second one. Keep up the good work!😊

  • @ligamara
    @ligamara День назад

    I’m Latvian and I’ve never gotten up the nerve to knit a Latvian mitten! I still have to first improve my stranded colourwork - my floats are always a tad too tight. It’s wonderful that you’re learning Norwegian - such a beautiful country, and once you learn one Scandinavian language, you can sort of understand the others!

      @LittleMissDropStitch День назад

      Thank you Liga - lovely to hear from you 😊 I hope you are doing well. I’m missing Latvia very much and wish I could go again. At least I have my beautiful wool to inspire me. Let me know if you try making mittens. X

    This would make a great cat toy if you added catnip to the stuffing! But you would probably need to knit it much tighter so the stuffing wouldn’t get pulled out by little cat claws 😹

    I love your Obi ❤ What a sweet face he has. And great tips! I recently reorganized my stash as well, and decided to give up on a sweater project that I had to frog when it was about 1/3 done, because the fit was all wrong. I’ve decided to use the yarn instead to weave a scarf. So I can practice my weaving skills without having to buy yarn! I found a gorgeous simple little antique table loom online that didn’t cost much at all, so I’m looking forward to using it after borrowing a different one that wasn’t nearly as nice from a friend.

      Sorry Carol, I seem to have missed this message. I can’t wait as see pictures of your weaving 😃 good on you for the stash re-organise. X

    Those dolls are adorable! Congratulations! And thanks for the shout out regarding our virtual meetup. I do hope we get things organized for another one soon ❤ I also had a fear of steeking before I got up the nerve to try it. But it’s great once you do it. My new skill for 2024 is that I’m learning to weave. I’m still very much a beginner, and find it hard to take time away from knitting, but I have plans for a couple of projects, anyway. I’m eager to hear your December news that you can’t share yet… I also have been plugging away at Norwegian, but I’m only doing Duolingo, so you are probably way ahead of me in your knowledge. Although I did watch a video recently about how to make a double knitting button band (with subtitles in English) and found that I could understand quite a bit of it, even though it was in Danish! So that was fun. I have exciting plans for 2025-a second cruise with A&C in late July/early August, this time including Svalbard! And Cynthia and Art are joining me. Her birthday is August 4, and mine is the first, so we will celebrate in style together!

      Hi Carol, thanks for your comment. How exciting, another cruise! If I use it before you go, I’ll let you know what I think of the Embla yarn as I know you’re looking for something new to try. I can’t wait to hear about the weaving. When I’m moved and have the essentials, I’m thinking of getting a rigid heddle loom. So I look forward to hearing how easy (or complicated) it is. Take care and all the best for new year heart ❤️ love to Cynthia and Art as well x

    Hmmm, I’ve never heard of this podcast. I’ll give it a listen. Cool that they featured your dolls! Your sweater is beautiful! What’s the pattern? Is it that Petiteknit one? Another fun video! I’ve never knit a Petite Knits pattern, although they do pop up often in my Ravelry searches. So maybe someday! I’ve also never worn a dickie, but maybe I should knit one to see how I like it. Your number one is certainly beautiful. A tip I’ve learned for knitting vertical cabled patterns is to put stitch markers between the sections to help you keep your place. Once you learn the repeat for each section, it becomes easy.

    • @LittleMissDropStitch
      @LittleMissDropStitch 5 месяцев назад

    I like all the patterns you chose, although I don’t think I agree with you about number one. Maybe I’m too old for “edgy” 😂 The “3” on the needle case is the size needle stored inside. And I think you can get your question about the Advent sweaters answered by watching the videos from the year they made them. I’m sorry I don’t remember if they were different or all the same, although I’m inclined to say that they are different.

    Rather than sewing the squares together, I recommend this: Crochet around each square, then crochet the squares together using a contrast colour. (I did mine in white). This looks a whole lot neater than sewing.

      Thank you for your comment. I made it this way so that the pattern is also suited to beginners. I didn’t want people to also have to learn to crochet for a blanket knitting pattern suitable for beginners. Your method is certainly something to bare in mind for experienced knitters 😀

  • @carolfaber585

    I recently saw a suggestion to slip the second stitch purlwise instead because it helps the completed stitch lie a bit flatter. I tried it and it worked nicely. It also makes it go faster because you can start the final left to right movement of the left hand needle while the second stitch is still on it (I hope that makes sense). Give it a try!

    Oh boy, I haven't been to Hobby Wool in a few years, I'll have to check out what it looks like now! For those watching who may be a bit wary of fine-gauge yarn -- I often hold the finer-weight Latvian wool yarns together with a strand of silk mohair, which usually comes out to a DK weight. The price point of Latvian yarn can't be beat!

    Cabling really is magic! (At least non-knitters think so 😅!). I used to use a cable needle when cabling, but just recently, at 54 years of age, finally learned how to do cables without a cable needle. I learned by watching Midori Hirose’s RUclips tutorial for the Snowy Forest sweater. It took a while to get the hang of it, but it soon became much quicker than fiddling with a separate cable needle. Except for when the final cables got really fat (5 stitches crossing 4) - I had to use a cable needle at that point because I was losing stitches at that tension.

    • @LittleMissDropStitch
      @LittleMissDropStitch 8 месяцев назад

      Thank you for your comment, Liga 💓 I still use a cable needle for 4 stitches. Although I’m doing the Ingrid jumper by Petite Knits and I’m loving the mock cable technique. Have you ever tried this? I will also check out the video you suggested. Take care 🧶 🐑

    That CaMaRose yarn was featured on the 2nd to last Fruity Knitting, I believe. It’s super eco-friendly, which explains the high price. Well, that’s clever! My grandmother made tons of tapestry pillows that I have inherited and now have on practically every couch and chair. My friend has recently gotten into making these kinds of tapestries as well. She takes motifs from Latvian mittens, whereas my gran used patterns from Latvian crafting books - in both cases, geometric patterns such as suns, stars, roses, etc. Have you seen Arne’s pillows that he found half-finished in some charity shop, and then filled in with a completely contrasting patterns? I love the one with tacky kittens that he surrounded with colourful diamonds - the mix of old-lady schmaltz with a 1970s mod background is so cool!

    Yup, I’ve got to use up more of my stash, too. A couple of years ago I destashed everything that had non-natural fibres in it - gave it to a local charity/collective of disabled people who make all sorts of crafts and then sell them in their shop along with donated clothing and other stuff. It was cathartic getting rid of it. I still have a sizeable stash, but at least now I feel good about it because it’s all yarn that I really want to use. 25 years ago, when I would buy any kind of yarn that was on sale or pretty, no one really knew about microplastics shedding from our clothes with every wash. 😱

    • @LittleMissDropStitch

    Good review of the book. I just might buy it because it looks like it teaches how to knit colourwork flat. I’ve only ever done colourwork in the round, but there are a couple of ravelry patterns I really want to make but have avoided so far because the pieces are knit flat. According to the Fruity Knitting podcast, pieced sweaters are more structured, too, because of the seams. I find my top-down sweaters and cardigans do have a tendency to stretch out at the neck and droop down with wear… (i.e. Ranunculus, Love Note, etc.)

    This video of yours just came across my feed and I will definitely go back and watch the previous videos. Thank you for sharing your experience. An Arne & Carlos knitting cruise is a feature on my bucket list. I had to laugh when you asked why Australians would travel so far and the simple answer is ... because we have to 😉 Anne 🦘

    WOW. that's a lot of yarn. Good for you. Not skimpy on the amount if wool and prices. Sometimes you just have to go for it.❤❤

      A lovely name for it! I've heard it called 'barber poling' on some of the podcasts.
