Man Creates Machine That Makes Time Loop
I think they’re scrubbing people’s Severence data for the four tempers, artificially taming them in an effort to create a utopian world where everyone is a more perfect version of themselves, using the Severence chip’s encoded emotional, memory & personality data as a bonsai tree to be pruned of excessive frolic, malice, dread or woe. Remember how emotionally dead our lovely Wellness Director & the senator’s wife were?
I finished season 1 for the first time just recently and inadvertently spoiled this for myself 😅 My name is Helena and my nickname is Helly-- as soon as a Helena was mentioned I was immediately like 'oh, that's Helly's outie' 😭 My having the same name and nickname made me connect the dots too quickly lol
My theory: In episode 1 Mark says to Helly: "I just bet it'll make you feel right as rain." I know that's an idiom, but something about the way Mark emphasized it, made me dwell on it. Later that episode, during the "no food dinner", the blonde lady says about Lumon: "They began in the 18 hundreds. Topical salves." Soooo... maybe the topical salves have some kind of mind-altering quality to them. This salve could also be in the "soap" dispensers, which is why they aren't labelled and employees are required to wash their hands with it at least 10 times a day. So Mark saying "you feel right as rain" could mean, that after it rains, the salve is washed away properly for the first time (since Lumon also might control the water systems and might put that salve in there too) and people actually feel "right"/ like their true selves for the first time since applying the salve. Maybe people who used the salves for many years become more receptive to the severance procedure/ it's a prerequisite for it. Mrs. Selvig/ Cobel also gave Devon a salve for her "lactation problem", and Peg Kincaid said she used a Lumon deodorant for many years. I'm not sure how innie Mark could know this, but maybe this is subconscious information? Would love to hear your thoughts on this :) Also, something else: Helly Rs clothes don't seem to fit into the office dress code. Especially her bright yellow dress and her blue jumper. I wouldn't categorize those as "pastel"...
Severance Review in Hindi ruclips.net/video/iQ4h7Yqda3s/видео.htmlfeature=shared
What's deliciously ironic, is they put her in there to prove to the world that Severance is good, yet she's going to be the cause of its downfall. None of the others would have decided to revolt on their own.
I just assumed when they showed the video of her outie telling her to get back in the fkng matrix and shutup, that it was AI CGI faked. If I had believed it was legit, I might have come to this realization sooner.
I think is parallel universe
Where did u get this file ? Is it accessible ?
Apple store, its free.
nah I think part time innies was quite direct, ms Casey said she’d only been awake a few hours, just for the wellness sessions, so she was literally part time
There are 5 bins but only 4 are named???
My theory is kier wants world domination. The point of the severance chip is to make people slaves and control them. It makes even more sense when they find out they have the ability to turn the chip off but are told it’s irreversible. Clearly it’s not. They are teaching them the world of kier and making him a god. But they haven’t perfected it because they constantly have outliers and rebellions. So the whole severance floor is a mental training facility. Which is why the “break” room is meant to mentally break you. The hand washing isn’t about washing hands. It’s also about getting them to sing the kier song as they do so 10x or more a day. Further subconsciously praising kier. At some point they are gonna turn everyone’s severance chips on permanently and have people worship the Eagen family. Macro data refinement is basically the chip turns their “outie” memories into a dataset. They are skimming through their own memories and are deleting any that may cause a connection to their outside. This is why the people who have been doing the job for the longest tend to be the most loyal. The incentives given are completely worthless meaning that they’ll be open to working for free as they don’t understand the concept of pay. They also have the ability to make them forget things which is how they originally show up with no memories but yet retain selective memories on how to drive a car etc. Also I believe Irv was one of the original to be severed. Which is why he’s one of the oldest and remembers the elevator room.
Cool
Is Noam Chomsky's Letters from Lexington: Reflections of Propaganda related to the Lexington Letter?
The lexington letter states someone died when they were close to releasing the truth in a tragic car accident, I wonder if Ms Casey's outtie was severed but was about to reveal some sort of truth, perhaps Lumen were aware and tried to have her killed. It'd also make sense as to why Ms Cobel lives next to Mark to keep an eye on him in case he figures out she's alive. It'd also make sense as to why Cobel is always testing Marks innie to see if he remembers Ms Casey, like with the candles and constant pairing of the two.
wayyyy off
I believe that a weakness to the severed is infections. It causes the implant to get malfunction and the personalities are no longer separate. I think that Petey might have found that out.
Your theory does not seem logical to me. The innie and outie are one and the same person. Gemma could not be killed in the outside world because her outie would need to be brought into Lumon to create her innie. So here the coma theories (Gemma’s outie is in a coma) make a lot of sense, particularly if she was taken to the severed floor when she awoke. It seems very odd to me and very difficult to hash out a theory in which her outie is actually dead. This would require two bodies (a clone). It is possible, though…maybe she was an experiment? Alas, I think it is more likely that her death was faked and she was taken to live permanently on the severed floor. But why?
Thank you thank you thank you!!!
Not a problem. I have more videos coming soon.
I think I count 177 labels on the back wall within the 14 departments. I hope they share more details of who's in the other departments.
About the Clean Slate protocol: another incident that supports the theory that Lumon completely or selectively wipes employee memories is what Petey says to Mark in Mark's basement. He tells Mark they both filed complaints with Lumon, which means innie Mark was unhappy with something. But when we meet him, he's a company man, as you say. And the complaint is never mentioned during the show. They must have reset his memory. AND, I think this is what starts to make Cobel suspicious that Petey reintegrated. They would have tried resetting him, too, but Petey wouldn't know that. So he comes in the next day remembering everything they tried to make him forget, and that throws up alarms. Maybe Petey realizes Mark forgot everything and that's what causes him to run - the realization that his behavior doesn't match what Lumon admins expect and his cover is blown. I've seen a number of theories speculating that they're refining the emotions or memories of severed employees. I like this theory, but can't reconcile the fact that the bins have to be evenly filled. It's now confirmed that the bins are the 4 tempers - malice, frolic, dread, woe - plus a 5th bin (which they never explain?), but it seems implausible that humans would feel these in equal distribution. In Peg's letter, she says about the files: "I guess there's a whole wall of [numbers] on her computer screen, but eventually, the wall runs out, and all the numbers have been sorted, and that's that - file completed." The numbers eventually run out, but is that because they found an equal number of the temperaments, or because they actually run out? What happens if they actually run out and haven't filled the bins? If the numbers run out because they've filled the bins, what's the point of identifying an equal number of memories or emotions of each temperament? From Lumon's perspective, these temperaments are "bad" ones (even frolic, I'd argue, because it's a distraction), so they're just trying to keep good memories and emotions? That kind of manipulation undermines the natural human experience. If Peg is right about the crash, though, they'd want to eliminate memories of it from people, and since they can't pinpoint their exact memories of traumatic events like that, the other memories they eliminate in the process are collateral damage. We know the files are time sensitive, but why? Is that an artificial deadline or a real one? Another thing I've seen people talk about is the different types of memories people have, and theorizing that severance only touches one of them. Maybe, after a certain period, memories transition from one type (the type severance controls) to another that severance can't reach, and then they can't erase the bad memories. Anyway, all of this is me thinking out loud. This show is riveting and so fun to follow! Thanks for an excellent video!
Hmmm maybe Gemma died, but her corpse was given to Lumon, so they could work with it and use it in their research to have permanent employees there. Just s thought. I mean we don't hsve much of a reason for the president guy to be in the picture. Maybe this is like an organ donation thing, where he would get to keep all the dead to become a workforce to that the outies can live without having innies or something.
These are all really good ideas! I think the reason Cobel referred to Ms Casey as a part time innie and Mark as a full time innie is that Mark works a 40 hour work week but Ms Casey only comes out when an employee needs a wellness session. In their final session together Ms Casey revealed the total numbers she’s worked for the company and that most of those hours have been wellness sessions. She reveals that the eight hour she spent in MDR was the longest she’s ever been out (and of course that it was the highlight of her time at Lumon).
Holy shit
An absolute outstanding video I'm from Ireland and have a tree in my garden that has a large hole in it I'm not in any rush to investigate it though!
Yggdrasil!
Yup...you dudes were right!
I love your theory, It is very logical .
If you don't know the file your working on '....ask your supervisor to REFRESH YOUR MEMORY
The show is just so fascinating, although I’m interested to see what direction they take in s2. It feels quick to immediately jump into the “main characters take on Lumon to save the world” arc, but at the same time it’s hard to see Lumon just taking all of MDR back after their last stunt. I think they have room to operate, though. It’s important to remember that when s2 begins, they’re going to be their outtie selves again answering for what their innie selves did (they better pick up from the finale scenes). Still, I think the only one that made serious waves as an innie on the outside world was Helly, and her pompous outtie could easily explain it away and say that her innie is “confused and lost” etc. I’m going to go back and watch the Petey scenes again. I think those got glossed over once he died and the day to day at Lumon was amplified. I’m gonna venture a guess some of the stuff he was saying, drawing, or doing is going to rear it’s head again.
Peggy is still alive, we will se her in the future seasons, she is being held in the basement live marks wife Gemma, a lot of answers in the Lexington letter and the M.O is to cause a “car accident”, comatose you & slow your heart to 1-5bpm and steal your body after the funeral
During their last wellness session, Millcheck comments that “it’s good that they don’t remember each other. It means the chips work.” As far as I’m concerned, Gemma never truly died. I would theorize she went brain dead after the incident, and Lumon scooped her up. How and why (meaning why did Lumon specifically choose Mark’s wife before mark even worked there) I’m sure we’ll find out. She is clearly heavily sedated/controlled/tampered with as a result of the “testing floor.” That would explain her robotic behavior. I’m also open to the theory that she was involved with Lumon somehow even before Mark, and with the accident Lumon made sure to keep her in-house. When Mark arrives, Cobel finds an interest in their relationship because she’s something of a sick-minded tyrant who viewed Lumon as her playground. Either way, I’m excited to find out.
Severance really revived my love for ARGs!
didn't see any handwashing. smoke screen to keep depts appart?
The breakfast thing I blew off because it seemed like the kind of thing you'd read about in a magazine or see on TV about a celebrity, especially if you are researching a company. Nice call, anyway!!
G is an incomplete whole with one square angle drawn in Earth. O is a Whole measure. D is a split whole with two square angles drawn in Earth.
So a substitution cipher works to bypass the code detectors? The ‘code’ detectors can’t detect the most common kind of code? Really?
Nice job. I just figured she was getting the standard spiel they give to employees about how great it is what she is doing.
Can someone please explain to me why outie Dylan didn’t react when Milshek deactivated the overtime in his home?? He just said: Are we ok? I mean supposedly outie Dylan is not supposed to know Milshek; he’s a stranger for outie Dylan. Just like outie Mark doesn’t know Ms. Cobel. Please explain!!
Seems like a 3 season show. If we go off of the three act structure, the end of S1 definitely feels like the end of act 1. S2 could be the shift in narrative & point of no return, and the “all hope is lost” moment being at the end. S3 would obliviously be the final act
as it is a slow burn, might take a bit to get into, especially if you were looking for a non-serious killing time show. but its very very interesting. very curious how they will continue on from this season but there is definitely a lot of things to develop and if done right, can become a top top show
What terrible design. You have to type the name of the Macrodata file, then hit enter, then scroll through a "rolodex" list of all the Macrodata files to find the file you want, then click on the rolodex? What's with the redundancy?
Sure glad I didn't come across this video before watching the show, but wow great guess. Maybe you should put video titles for theories more as question like "What is Helly's actual identity?"
One thing I wonder about (of many!) is how not experiencing sleep affects the innies. Their bodies and the shared parts of their brain benefit from their outies’ sleep, but what about the severed part of their brain? One of the functions of sleep is memory consolidation and “sorting”. It’s thought that during sleep, the brain filters memories, shifts new memories to more permanent storage, or discards them. Without this our memories may be messy, jumbled, or lost. Maybe when the outie sleeps, this process happens to the innie part of their brain too, even though they are not aware of it? I guess so. I can’t imagine never experiencing sleep, it’s such a distressing idea, to be continually awake. The innies also never engage in self-care: never dress themselves, brush their teeth, shower. Their outies do all that for them. I guess using the bathroom and eating and drinking is it :/
I think the sleep factor is explained in multiple facets. One, it’s one body. So when the outtie sleeps for 8 hours, there’s no immediate need for the innie to sleep. Two, I’m guessing the innies learn pretty quick that sleeping on the job isn’t advisable, and it’s not like Lumon is offering nap times. They do, however, touch on it with Irv. There seems to be a connect between sleep and accessing outside memories. Outtie Irv is actively depriving himself of sleep to try and get innie Irv to sleep at work and possibly see the paintings of the testing floor. These are the scenes when Irv sees the jet black ooze dropping down.
I think the reason Peggy was able to remember the childhood language is because it was stored to Peg’s procedural memory before severance. Peggy could remember the language without remembering how she acquired it, or ever having used it before. The way Irv knows how to drive a car without remembering ever actually doing it. While doodling one day, Peggy realised the doodles she was creating had meaning to her, and if they meant something to her without her knowing how she learned them, it must be something she had learned before she was severed, therefore her outie must know it too. I do think art and sleep can provide a bridge between the severed personalities. This seems clear from outie Irv’s paintings and forcing his innie fall asleep at work by staying awake himself. He is trying to get innie Irv to see the testing floor elevator through art and sleep. Mark doesn’t remember the face of his dead wife sitting opposite him in the wellness session, but by accessing his subconscious through artistic expression, he forms from clay the tree that killed her.
In the Lexington letter the person thinks they data leads to events in the outside world and Peter asks Mark what if he is killing people for 8 hours a day
I think Rebecca came from the past where autumn/Amy disappeared
Wonderful stuff! Thanks for posting :)
You’re welcome!
Just watched the whole season yesterday and was completely blown away! What an amazing original idea! Adding to the story with the Lexington letter is on par with some omega mart lore sh!t. Excellent stuff!
finaly a recap that's no BS and get straight to the point thank you!
robot or augmented clone i'm guessing. a lot of her expressions seem manipulated by programming, or whatever she's having a discussion about at the time. and if you notice whenever she ends a sentence her smile or whatever expression she has at that time, just goes blank (like a poker-face). also when she's talking to Helly about being able to perform a hug when sent to watch over her, it sounds like a programmed machine, a robot. but like i mentioned, she could also be a augmented clone. and one that's still learning, hence Cobel always sending her to the 'Testing Floor'.. that sounds like something out of Westworld. though when walking down the narrow hallway to said Testing Floor, she does seem to exhibit some real emotion, so in that regard i lean more to her being a augmented clone. she seems to really be in fear of being shut down for good, not just having her innie switched off. ☮
I hate melon 🍈. I love watermelon though. I wonder if melon bar is because melon is mild but sweet with an indistinguishable and unmemorable flavor.
