Sir, your mentioning of our wearing mask reminds me of the statement of the great American writer Mark Twain : Every man is like a moon, who never shows his dark side to anybody. Sir, as such a saint appears as a saint because he hides ( has capacity to control )his un-saintly qualities. It is not at all hypocrisy. We are helpless creatures of nature with contrary impulses and instincts within us.

Sir I agree with the famous Poet Alexander Pope that A little knowledge is dangerous. But the fact there's a limit and limitations of our acquiring knowledge during our life time. What we acquire is very little only. You have already said that you don't know Madam totally after living with her for more than forty years. Jesus by washing the feet of his disciples was trying to destroy human frailties: ego and envy that undermines brotherhood. This act of selflessness by the Master showed them humility thus initiating them to respect and serve each other. The leg symbolism is that of movement and progress (in time) and Jesus Prepares them for the journey ahead- the mission to spread the Gospel.
