The Battle of Government House
Просмотров 142 тыс.8 лет назад
from the film 'An Ungentlemanly Act'. Royal Marines and a blue-eyed local ex-marine who re-enlisted defend Government House from attack by Argentine commandos. Exteriors [eg. the duck's area/vegetable patch] are authentic. PS: Lord Petyr Baelish is carrying the portable radio. PPS: the source video is not very good, and the audio is worse. Film was shot on super 16, with no CGI.
Aye I live in the Falklands !
Can’t find this movie anywhere

Tracers just the best in this .
Wheres the rest of this or what film was this called ?
For Christ sake can somebody put this full bbc film available to watch. Saw this back in the day when it was first aired.
It used to be available on “Brit box”
I've really gotten into the history of the falkland wars and i've been looking for a movie about it. I've seen all the documentries and began reading the book
Logistics in the Falklands War: A Case Study in Expeditionary Warfare by Kenneth L. Privratsky and Julian Thompson | 31 Jan 2020 4.6 out of 5 stars 479 Kindle Edition £3.99
@@aforandi Thank you sir
We are talking airpower, which was all that mattered, so sending a submariner admiral to be CinC was a bit dumb but typically British. 'Why Air Forces Fail' has a chapter on the reason why the Argentine one failed in combat, which is largely due to a lack of mutual support between all three services. Also I'd recommend 'Scimitar into Stanley', recently written by a colleague of a business contact, who held the rank of captain in the Guards, thus the senior officer of the senior regiment. 'Penal Company' is Philip Neame's account of D company 2 Para, which saw more combat than any other similar unit. Major Neame was not decorated for his service.
@@aforandi Did you see the doc on Operation Black Buck? Have you ever been to the Falklands?
How are they going to have the Chileans represent the Argentines if we are enemies? (the accent is not the same) another thing; The thing is that General Busser did not want to kill the English because he had an order that the taking of the islands had to be bloodless. even at the cost of Argentine lives themselves. That's why Guiachino dies. if we surpassed them 100 to 1. Governor Hunt knows this because he told him that he would not kill any English soldiers. The plan was to lead to a negotiation that the prime minister transformed into war by sinking the cruiser General Belgrano. It doesn't bother us that we lost the war with England, we won 2 in 1806 and 1807. It bothers us that they don't tell the truth. They do not declassify the files until 2050. tell the truth please. not only for us but for you. Their government lies to them.
I remember it being on tv (only twice), have it on DVD (it stops playing halfway through😳)
Having been to the Falklands.. this is extremely authentic.. I've even seen the state of the bell!!
I know a guy from Edinburgh, former 42cdo royal marines, was right in the thick of this very gun battle, 🏴✌️
Muy buena, saludos desde Buenos Aires Argentina
Red tracers!
One in five rounds. The Germans used green.
The Russians and Chinese use green as well I think
I really appreciate the small details like the insult of the Argentinian 2:52 "La puta que te parió" It is an Argentine insult and is similar to te "son of a bitch"
04:12 ah yes. The british way
When the Argie SF saw that sash window fly open and three SLR muzzles poke out, they must have known that they were going to be on the receiving end of some light artillery aka NATO 7.62mm. Brilliantly filmed drama, some superb squaddie humour- "Permission to strangle a darkie please Cpl?!" LOL Then there was, "Would boys like a cup of tea?" as the Argie light armour and dismounted inf are approaching. The question was met by one of the Royals with, "Get doon ya silly bitch! Can't ya see there's a war on?!" *UP THE ROYALS! RESPECT*
I have this on DVD, a marvellous film
One of the best battle scenes ever made. Tracer rounds were superb.
Paras wud ave won this
Tweet tweet plop😂😂😂
Yes, this ‘An Ungentlemanly Act’ and ‘Tumbledown’ are two of the best on the Falklands War
RIP Bob Peck
2:52 Lol my dad's from Argentina, he always says this when he's angry
I love how proper and dignified brits are even in warfare lol
También lo fueron los argentinos, correctos en la batalla y dignos en la derrotas, unos caballeros!!!

There were no British casualties because the orders were to take the governorship as peacefully as possible, only surrender was summoned by making the governor see that resistance was IMPOSSIBLE. This cost the life of Giachino, an excellent professional and a better person. The recovery of the islands was a flawless operation, the only civilian casualties were from British fire. I'm not looking for conflicts, I just want to inform. Greetings from Buenos Aires.
Can we just take a second to appreciate the radio operators calm in all of this
Shame about the title of the film though
'WHAT THE BLOODY HELL WE ARE FIRING AT!'....🤣
'DOESN'T ANYONE AROUND HERE SPEAK SPANISH???!!!'....
FUCKING MARVELLOUS
Looks like a great film!
Absolutely brilliant portrayal of the defence of Government House , Port Stanley by the Royal Marines. This was played down by the UK press and they were branded cowards as it was perceived the Marines had thrown in the towel too soon when in fact they created alot of Argentinan casualties. When the rest of Argentinan troops came ahore with armoured support it was decided the game was up .Tumbledown is also an extremely good drama about the Scots guards and their assault on Mount Tumbledown.
@@chrisholland7367 Yes it's easy for those who weren't there to say things like that.
Please name of movie and link
Argentine special forces.. more like special needs. Lucky the invasion happened or they'd have been hammered even harder
OH MY! I am near the end of the re mastered version and I am SUFFERING. HAVE THEY CUT A SCENE ? What happened to the Argentine Commando with the GRENADE? ? It just shows the injured Argentine Medic say.. "Nooo".... Then.. nothing except an inside the kitchen shot of the sink with a splash of green stuff.. then ..nothing? Was the scene complete in the original?
Is that Bob Peck as the Royal Marine CO?
Clever Girl
These tracers look awesome compared to the CGI crap in that Fury Movie with Brad Pit.
Done by people who know what tracers look like.
That tracer effect is better than Star Wars
No LGBTs or Lefty Marxists in this engagement.
Letting other people live in your head rent free is very psychologically damaging. You should see a specialist.
@@MichaelCasanovaMusic Thanks for bringing that to my attention, I'll see a specialist about sorting out a rent agreement.
My neigbours love this when I play it at 3am ! Its that sound of the glass breaking and smashing. Thankfully they're nearly all British and remember this incident very well. 'Strangers in the night' .
Oh guys, I'm Argentinian, I hope I don't receive insults, but it's a great movie that shows the "Rosario Operation"
Never fear, The Argentinian forces had the respect of the British armed forces. When the General Belgrano was torpedoed by a British sub, our cheap newspapers made a Headline 'Gotcha ' there was an outcry over this as our sailors do not triumph over enemy sailors drowning in freezing water. To this day I have never heard a bad word about Argentinian forces. After their surrender they were treated well and returned home as soon as could be. This is a fact.
Well.... You have to hand to the Argentine troops doing their duty.... And The Brits doing the same
Escribi en castellano mira q estos yanquis o ingleses van a escribir en español
Malvinas por siempre Argentinas Española Americana !!!!
Thinking back....I think that this might be the first time that 'Tracer' automatic fire was edited into a film. It starts off slow.....then gets much quicker before it hits you. A brilliant production, the most surreal battle I've ever seen.

I can kinda see why the UK gave up the L1A1 for a shorter rifle. Damn things look like a long pain in the ass.
The SLR was a fine fine weapon and proved its capability over the years it was in Service. If you got hit by 7.62 SLR Round then you weren’t getting back up. Ask any Vet who trained on both SLR & SA80 ( 5.56 ) they will tell you the SLR wins every time. You could get shorter Models of the SLR too, for Jungle etc. What a great weapon it was, absolutely fantastic. My Passing Out Parade in 1988 ( Infantry ), we were the last in the whole of the Army to Pass Out with the SLR.
The Argies used full auto FAL, Brits picked up one instead of L1A1.
@@ilovesmysangsomsangsom3500 Didn't the SLR also have a much longer firing range than the SA80 as well ? Accurate shots from 800 meters compared to the 300-400 with the SA
Funnil, enough, the Falklands War is the reason why they dropped it for the SA80 There were incidents where British soldiers were forced to pick up captured Argentinian FALs and/or munitions because at the time, the individual soldier can only get 3 or so L1A1 mags into their rigs.
The L1A1 SLR was and is far superior to the SA80 5.56 'peashooter' that replaced it. I know, I used both extensively. The length of the SLR was rarely an issue, it was easier to patrol with than the SA80 and could be ported in either shoulder. Far better build quality, and easier to strip and maintain. Far better bayonet wpn and ideal for close quarter fighting. IE a butt stroke to the face from an L1A1 with knock out teeth and break the nose. You might as well throw the SA80 away and pick up a shovel in close combat.
2:00 It's brilliant how calm and composed he is despite all hell breaking loose lmao
That's why the Royal Marines are so professional and focused.
@@chrisholland7367 It's like when you see Americans they're usually yelling hysterically WE'RE UNDER ATTACK! but with the Royal Marines, it's just a understatement, my location under attack, out lol
You can hear the fear in his vpice but that's not important in the moment. He needs to get a message through and can't do that of he's panicking
“Firing commences at Government House” he calmly prints on paper
Siempre Argentinas
Especially if you're a misinformed junkie, Britain owned the island before Argentina was a country
Never Argentine! Always British! 🇬🇧
My favourite part of this film is at the start where dick baker is playing golf and a sheep dog nicks his ball
********************************************** LAS MALVINAS SON ARGENTINAS *******************************
Argentine accent is shit... Pure shit
That was the very best of Argentina's forces, sent against 57 Royal Marines and the Falkland Island's militia; we all know the rest of this story :)
Tbf they were only 16 or so at Government House
No quisieron matar a nadie. Bastaba con alejarse un poco, y batir la casa de gobierno con las ametralladoras calibre 12,7. En unos minutos todo hubiera terminado.
