Well, I did the replacement w/o being able to do the "TDM Replacement Mode" step using SDT. Also, for some reason doing calibration doesn't bring up the application (crashes?) which it didn't work either with the old original screen...not sure what gives. I bought the replacement screen via Microsoft which iFixit seems to be running their logistics. I didn't get any "Cam Adjustment" tools, but otherwise the kit was pretty thoughtful. Extra screws and shields in case you messed up somewhere. No closure seals so I guess I won't be replacing those. Also, I got two (~0.5") squares of "double sided" tape...not sure what that is for.

Where did you get the adhesive strips for this model? Nobody seems to carry them.

Regarding the thermal paste, the service manual recommends to replace the entire thermal module if you remove it. The video implies that you can reuse it but the manual recommends otherwise. Maybe that's why they skip over the thermal paste reapplication

Great video. There is almost no repair information on the Pro 8. This video does not cover battery replacement and they missed the step to replace the thermal paste but using this video I was able to replace my battery. Thanks! 😊😊

hey yall be extremely careful when cleaning off that toxic waste from your cpu die, it can kill you if you ingest it! also dont use a flat head on the cpu die or you may chip it and it wont be fixable total cpu death.

@iFixit Repair can you put the Adhesive Strips for sale on your shop please? You sell the screen, the debonder, and the bonding frame, but you don't sell any way to glue the whole thing back together? While you're at it, sell us the batteries! Microsoft wants 750$ CAD to replace the entire tablet, even if the only issue is worth 100$!

Thanks for posting this. I have a gen1 Surface Studio that is so amazing, except for the noisy fan and super high temperatures from being packed into this tiny base station. I really love the display and have had this unit for 6.5 years now, even upgrading the wonky 2TB "Fusion" drive (legacy HDD + SSD cache) with an NVRAM SSD 1TB and it's been doing great since - other than the overheating part. I have flat square icepacks that I rotate from my freezer to sit ontop of the base. I'm hoping to use this video to help me plan some sort of base station modification like pegs that will come down from the top but give me like a 3-4" airspace and maybe a 3rd party fan that's powered for better air circultation and venting so it's not all compressed in that tiny space. I'm running the latest RC Windows 11 version, and really would like to hang onto this unit and keep using it. It's such a shame Surface team hasn't converted/leveraged this intellectual property of such a great product line (that was too expensive and didn't get picked up much) and they should make this into a premium display product for artists, not a compute device. This surface hub if platformed right as a TB4 docking station in the base and you bring your own PC, desktop or laptop formfacter and your own GPU etc... this monitor + touch + stylus would be such an epic creator device. It's the best I've ever own, only stiffled by the poor performance and ventilation of the self-imposed design constraints of ~2016 era laptop GPU capabilities that pales to it's desktop competitors, especially in the creatives space back then. I'd love to just jack a new Surface Laptop Studio 2 into this bad boy and be off and running!! Too bad Panos didn't take up my suggestion, maybe the new team will consider it. :)
