How to Improve Your Hatch Rate
Просмотров 28 тыс.6 лет назад
Today we are setting some eggs in our incubator to hatch. I was reading on line to see if there was anything I could do to improve the hatch rate. I found if you take water and delute 2-3% hydrogen peroxide into it you can sterilize your eggs and increase your hatch rate. It seams simple enough so lets give it a try and see what happens.. We will be candling the eggs in 10 days. stay tuned to s...

Hey guys so now that the barn is stable we are switching gears and working on the house.. We live in a circa 1860's farm house and we absolutely love these old houses for all their charm and quirks, But old houses are a lot of work and there is constantly something that needs to be done.. Today we are replacing the supports for the front porch. They where raped an tin so you couldn't see them. ...

How to turn roadkill into delicious meat and eggs
We used listerine wash to increase our hatch rate . I was amazed how well it worked .
We want to see the result. 6 years since then 😂
👍🏼
so i see someone said to use the peroxide straight from bottle and you said thanks for correction, so is the way you did it in the video wrong? you shouldn't have diluted it? what strength was your bought peroxide ?.
You don’t have to dilute. Just spray from a bottle of Peroxide and white clean place back into the incubator
why hydrogen does not bubble
Maybe because the eggs are clean? I’m not sure that’s a great question!
Did you scrub your eggs first?
The peroxide method is total BS I tried it & it FAILED Only 5 of 26 Barred Rock eggs hatched. 1 was a rare "Albino" that died after a day. In 20 years this is the worst hatch rate I got. Here's the proof. ruclips.net/video/6VwUPk4w-h8/видео.html .
Anyone know of risking deseases on your chickens by feeding them maggots? Is it the amount of maggots or what? Why not just grind the roadkill before it rots and feed the chicks ground protein ? Old cast iron grinder ought to do it.
Good work! You gave me some ideas about what I can do to mine. Thank you!
Thank you! I’m glad it helped someone. I hate seeing these awesome old buildings fall down. Thanks for watching!
It's called a Scare Hawk..
You don’t need to dilute the hydrogen peroxide.
Okay. . .someone explain to this dummy, if I don't have a fancy scale. . .How much much hydrogen peroxide are we suppose to use per oz. of water ??? I am a dummy. Please explain
Use a cap full in 8 oz. of water. Thanks for watching. I hope you liked the video!!
Do you think it would also be useful to make a wooden dummy shotgun and put it with the scare crow ?? . . also attach the scare crow on green painted cross boards on the ground so that you can easily drag it several feet when ever you walk by it, or want to move it. . + Could put a pulley motor on a timer, to move it a couple feet every hour, and pull the "dummy put on skids".
😂 sure you can get as creative as you want! If you actually do all that I hope you post a video cuz I know I’d love to see it!! 😂
Use original listerine, it kills 99.9% of germs and leaves you eggs smelling fresh and clean.
I’ll have to give that a try thanks for the tip!
how did you attach the shirt with the pants
I just used twine and made some overalls basically. Thanks for watching I’m glad you liked the video!!
Hey you haven't posted in a while what happened
We actually moved to another house and just haven’t had the time to do RUclips. I’m hoping to start back up in the spring.
Might be a good idea to close the trap door.
Oh no don’t take the fun out of falling down to the basement! Haha thanks for watching
Is this still working for you? I have really been debating on doing it so I thought I would look it up on youtube.
Yes this still works great for keeping hawks away. Thanks for watching! I hope you check out my other videos
@@farmsteadfun5227 = thankyou for continuing to update. how much do you think the ribbons blowing in the wind would be a main factor ??
Hi, I own this exact same press and mine is missing the plate near the pulverizer. Any chance I could get you to email me some photos of the plate in yours, with the top removed? I'm not sure what is supposed to be there and can't find any info online. Thanks!
Absolutely I can send some pictures of it. What’s your email?
I commented my email address but it's not showing. Did you receive it?
@@tonguedarts no I didn’t get it.
I posted it a second time and it got deleted again. RUclips must block comments with addresses in them. It's "theamnestybox" at hotmail.
Dot com. 😄
looks nice. Is it easy to move around
Yes it’s very easy to move around and works great! Thanks for watching!!
Just put the peroxide into the spray bottle and make sure to wash out the peroxide afterwards because it can degrade the plastic over time.
Shoot it
Hi I am from south Africa, I work a shitty job and I want to start chicken farming, I literally do not have capital to do this but I want to do it anyway, what would you suggest for extremely measures to make a living out chicken farming starting by using incubator?
Hello, go for it you won't regret it. As you begin the proces you must know it requires time and patience to get the outcome you want but it will eventually happen. Once the chicks have hatched start selling so you dont have to feed a lot of full grown chickens. Then when the hens start laying eggs dont buy eggs anymore use those same eggs to incubate more chicks. Reapeat this proces eventually you cant grow more and start selling more animals like sheep and pigs which cost more = more money 💰
Supporting each other another sub here
Nice video
How did it go?
It worked good. I had an 85% hatch rate.
@@farmsteadfun5227 Good stuff, i will try that on my next batch.
I used hydrogen peroxide mixed with water for quail egg. I am scared because there was white fizz forming in egg shell like some kind of reaction. Will it harm the egg?
How was the hatch? Was it successful?
@@tonymbabuphotography3016 its ok adding hydrogen but i find out we have to dry hatch using it
Hydrogen peroxide will fizz anytime it comes in contact with "germs"...totally normal and fine. And no you don't have to use the dry hatch method with this but you certainly can. I've heard a lot of good things about dry hatching...
Mine did to! That’s why I am watching this video! How was the hatch? I saw the fizzing and it left a white residue on my hand so I am worried. I used the 3% from the drug store in a spray bottle on bought quail eggs eeek
@@glenelkenfarm5577 now a days i dont use it. I dont think it will improve hatching. Use this method unless egg is very dirty.
didint it said 9/12 grams of solution most of the weight was from the cup
Hello. If you had ONLY two choices of 99 degrees Fahrenheit OR 100 degrees Fahrenheit on your forced air incubator which would you choose for Mandarin duck eggs?
99.5 IS IDEAL BUT IF NO CHOICE GO TO 100 WOULD BE BETTER STILL IS NOT TO HOT.
Lower is better. Too warm hatches early.
From another guy who rehabbed an old cider press: is that a 'Hoosier Cabinet' (maybe made by Sellers Co?) in the background?
Thanks for watching. I hope you like my videos! You have a very good eye my friend that’s exactly what it is. I’m hoping to start that project soon. Thanks again for watching!
Should the door open outside?
It can open to the outside if you’d like it to. I have mine open to the inside because I use it for my chickens in the winter and if it opens inside I don’t have to worry about shoveling snow to open and close the door. Thanks for watching! I hope you like my videos!!
@Farmstead Fun Great video, but little man needs to stay clear from those pans. Sis.Julia🕊 March 9, 2020
Thanks glad you liked the video!! Don’t worry I always keep a close on on the kiddos when we are doing stuff like this.
@@farmsteadfun5227 When i was watching the video, i was thinking about pancakes🥞and waffles, i would love to have some good old fashioned maple syrup.
Get some black Australorp chickens my black chickens are Protectors of my flock of 140 birds Guinness are also a good addition because they're noisy but most definitely the black rooster is a good protector I only have one for almost 2 acres of land and he manages pretty darn good with the rest of the 15 black hens I don't even close the chicken coops at night my only problem is in the daytime with Hawks they go after the the yellow poofy feather chickens and the slow ducks that are too fat to run away or the disabled chickens I had a Salton hen that was blind in one eye she got picked up a week ago once the winter hits It's game time for the Hawks
Pellet Gun.. Shoot, Shovel, and Shut Up..
@Cumberpatch Fingerbottom - Just dont go around telling everyone you kill those predators like a man. Some are too coward to do that and dont like it. And like cowards they can put you down behind your back only. Some are Predator Protectors and deserve %^&% on their arsess.
Interesting. I have an incubator, but haven’t used it yet...
Oh you should definitely use it. Especially if you have young kids. They love candling the eggs and when hatch day comes it’s very exciting for them.
Using a hand tools , reminds me of slow food movement, especially since I use a shovel and wheelbarrow!!....lol!
Judy Reynolds Thanks for watching! Glad you like my video!!
I think Texas Prepper was the guy who originally created this great greenhouse idea.
Lonna Adkins Yep. This one looks nice :)
Ace, Sheep doesn’t look too happy 🥴
neil gallagher I don’t think they are ever happy about being shorn haha. Thanks for watching!
The 3% refers to peroxide that is already 3% not you diluting it more
Thanks for the correction I really appreciate it!!
This will be our next try. Never had a hawk problem until this spring. I've lost a bunch so far and just today 2 of my Cayugas.
It worked great for us and still works great. Just make it look as realistic as possible and make it portable so you can move it around your chicken run from time to time. Good luck! Let me know how it works for you. Thanks for watching my videos!!
I use distilled water for all of my dilutions. It gets rid of variables that can happen with tap or well water.
Build a proper coup with a big caged run. Chickens can’t run loose.
Wow, that turned out really nice !!
Thank you! I’m really glad you liked the video!
Kill it, you have every right to defend your property and livestock, it’s legal where I live in North Carolina if it’s attacking your livestock
Adam Hammack I’m not sure if it’s legal here in jersey But I did build a scarecrow and that seemed to work great! Thanks for watching
isn't the solution of H2O2 in the brown bottle already a 3% solution?
Tristen Berry, exactly.
I was also concerned since I sprayed my hydrogen peroxide straight without diluting since it shows 3%. Had me worried for a bit. Either way, I'mma candle on day 8 but I am glad that I am not the only one who thinks it's already dilute.
Yep, already 3% right from the bottle. What he mixed is now so dilute it will essentially be ineffective.
@@tonymbabuphotography3016 how did they go? I did the same and am worried
Dilution wasnt needed lol
Use original yellow Listerine mixed. 50/50 with water and lightly spritz the eggs as soon as you bring them in from the hen house to kill all bacteria
Thanks I’ll have to give that a try
What if they're covered in dirt?
nice job how is it holding up?
redwood1957 it’s holding up very well. I’ll be planting in it again soon thanks for watching I’m glad you enjoyed my video. I’ll be posting more videos soon!!
Very nice build. I couldn't quite get the name of those pliers you used to join the panels. What are they called again? And many thanks for posting.
Captain Ron Thanks for watching I’m glad you like the video! The pliers are called hog ring pliers you can get a nice kit on amazon just search dewalt hog ring pliers they are about $25. Thanks again for watching!! Keep a look out for some new videos coming soon!!
Thanks again.
Great idea - did it keep working for you? We just developed a problem with a Red-Tailed Hawk two weeks ago and he's relentless. I hate the idea of keeping my chickens constantly cooped up, but he's not going to just pick them off one by one every day, either. Thanks so much for sharing what you're trying! (We use the same intro music on our channels! lol)
Yes this still works very well. I move the scarecrow around at least once a week to keep the hawks guessing lol. But I haven’t lost a chicken to hawks since I put up the scarecrow. I’m glad you enjoyed my video! Thanks for watching and subscribing! I really appreciate it!
@@farmsteadfun5227 is it STILL still working! <3 I have cat's and have cat proofed my backyard. A couple of hawks have a nest right outside of my neighborhood and luckly I saw their shadow on my camera's circling looking for prey. Now I'm afraid to let my cat's outside un attended like I use to do because 2 of them are runts and will stay around 7 pounds :(
