I will prove this to you. - The area in pain is rarely where you'll find the root problem. - Pain is a sign that muscles, joints, nerves, and/or sys...

    I have numbness and tingling from my right shoulder all the way down to my arm and forearm, sometimes I get it from having my arm resting on the desk at 90º, and when I hang from a pullup bar it can happen too. Trying the exercises right now. As son as I start the neck retractions, I can feel the tingling (around my rear delt / trapezius / neck area) and that I am stretching THROUGH it. I think this is a sign that I'm hitting the right spots?

    My sensation is pain from my butt. Talk to my foot on three weeks into this thing now. I don’t know what I did to irritate it but it’s pretty much constant now nothing has helped medicine wise and I’ve been on vacation so I can’t do anything about it. I’ve missed all the activities that everybody else is getting to do. When I get back home, my doctor is having me get an x-ray and an MRI.

    No one can explain to me WHY some people have a disc herniation without pain. What could be the scientific reason behind this? Dying to know over here! 😅

    • @KaizenPhysicalTherapy
      @KaizenPhysicalTherapy 10 месяцев назад

      The "scientific reason" is because pain is complex. Why do some people have "double jointed" thumbs while other don't? Why do some people have one leg that's slightly shorter than the other while others don't? This is why it's so important to test for all possible sources that could mimic the symptoms (and there are at least a dozen.) If these tests don't reveal a problem then we can assume the herniated is the cause of pain, not the other way around.

    For me, this could be potentially helpful if it were specifically a nerve issue. From what I've noticed mine is more of a weight issue. And anytime I bring my hand up towards my shoulder and have it sitting there for long periods of time, that is when the numbness starts to present itself. I hope this video helps those with nerve and other neurological issues.

    I likely have a disc herniation from squatting. I had 180kg on my back. Weight Iv lifted many time and it was supposed to be a warm up. I felt a pop at my sticking point and a lot of pain for a few days, they it was fine. No issue after a few weeks and I was back squatting with no pain, just much lighter weight. 2 months later I went for a deadlift, I haven’t deadlifted in awhile and it was a cold day so I definitely wasn’t as warmed up as I should be. There was 150kg on the bar which I didn’t take very seriously considering my max was 270kg. Anyways I didn’t even get it off the ground, I didn’t feel a pop this time but I did feel ALOT of pain. This time I was really out of the gym and resting my back. Really hurt only when I leaned forward in that squat/ deadlift position. I assume it had to have been a disc. Right now it’s been 5 weeks and that pain is gone, I haven’t trained at all. I’d like to know if I’ll ever be back powerlifting the way I was before or am I done for good now? I don’t have any nerve pain and I can move around fine, I’m just worried about getting back into lifting weights again. How long would this likely take to heal?

    • @FlickSh0tt
      @FlickSh0tt Год назад

      @@dingdong6005 I’m doing well. It originally happened in November. I pretty much avoided leg days completely until a month ago. I still never had an MRI, just couldn’t afford it. Iv always had very good technique so I’m a lot more conscious of my form now with even lighter weight, being meticulous. From the video of my injury which I had recorded I could tell I just lost tension in my core when I got to my sticking point. I likely exhaled & lost stability which is why I felt the shift in my back and pop. Iv gone back dead lifting with a hex bar. Not too often but just to test the waters. I’m still a bit to nervous using a barbell due to it requiring me to be in more of a forward leaning position to lift the weight. I was still active in the gym since November. I avoided any free weights for many months and stuck with machines due to them being very stable. I used to have pain bench pressing at the beginning in my lower back due to the compression against the bench but now I don’t have any problems with pain. I still do feel a bit of instability in my back though, especially when I lean forward. I’m wearing a weight lifting belt now when squatting even with warm ups. Don’t have them too tight if you use them, it’s needs to be tight but you still need room to breath and expand your belly into the belt as a brace so make sure you can always fit your thumb between your stomach and the belt. I’m back lifting heavy again now anyways. I regained all my strength pretty quickly but it was definitely a wake up call that I need to be more careful. I’m training over 10 years but all it takes is 1 brief moment of making a mistake to hurt you and Iv learned from that going forward. That has been the worst injury Iv had personally.

      @@dingdong6005 best of luck with it. Just take some time off from what you were doing but stay active. Movement is the best thing you can do for recovery and heat. Use heat packs often or hot water bottles. I did this a lot at the beginning. Heat draws blood into the area & so does actively moving. At the start you’ll be too sore so stick with heat and then as time goes on start incorporating small activities that keep that area working. Avoid cold packs completely. They’re good for immediate injuries to ease swelling but they constrict blood flow and will only prolong your recovery if you keep using them.

    I stumbled upon your videos tonight and find them encouraging. I am 36 and trying to get my back feeling better from a presumed bulging/herniated lumbar disc. I carry around a 65lb disabled child and then a deadlift at the gym brought about some acute pain 🥴 No imaging done but I went through a short course of the McKenzie method with a local PT. He was good at his job but wouldn't ever explain which muscles we were stretching. I'm an RN and naturally curious-are there any particular muscles that are prone to causing pain in the tailbone area? That is where I feel my discomfort a lot and can't seem to find any clear answers. Thanks! And good job on the videos!

    • @KaizenPhysicalTherapy
      @KaizenPhysicalTherapy 2 года назад

      Hi Heather. The area I would first look into is the spine. Many times people with tailbone/hip pain will also be limited in spinal rotation towards the symptomatic side. There is typically also a limitation in spinal extension. After we clear the spine as the possible cause then I would look into the hip. The glutes can refer pain into the tailbone. You could try some self-myofascial release at the glutes to see if it helps. Here's a video: ruclips.net/video/6oNZg1Ll4r0/видео.html Finally, stretching isn't the solution nearly all people need. They really need proper strengthening. If a muscle is tight it's typically tight due to some weakness or instability in the joint or a nearby joint. I know that was a lot of information and it's nearly impossible for me to really help without seeing you. But I do hope that helps in some way. Good luck with everything, I hope you find a solution!

      Thanks for telling your story, Martin. I'm really happy to hear you're doing better. You could also consider finding a great physical therapist to speed up your recovery and give you the best possible chance of the problem not coming back again. Often times the area that hurts is compensating for a problem elsewhere in the body. I'd recommend finding someone who looks at the entire body.

    • @KaizenPhysicalTherapy
      @KaizenPhysicalTherapy 3 года назад

      @certainanchorshark Unfortunately, it's impossible for me to say without seeing the person standing in front of me. A diagnosis does not always = pain. They are not one and the same. That is why it's so important to have the full story. This requires looking at movement, using my hands to find what's tender or painful, and then some tests to see if symptoms improve. It takes a combination of objective data to know the entire story, not just MRI results. However, the good news is that your symptoms don't sound indicative of anything serious. But, even the muscle weakness could be due to multiple factors. I'd recommend you see a health professional who specializes in your problem who wants to help you avoid surgery. Many physical therapists can help. Good luck!

    • @KaizenPhysicalTherapy
      @KaizenPhysicalTherapy 3 года назад

      @certainanchorshark Nobody can say with 100% certainty that it will or won't heal. There is research showing they can heal, but every case is different. I would always recommend non invasive treatment first.

    • @KaizenPhysicalTherapy
      @KaizenPhysicalTherapy 3 года назад

      @certainanchorshark that is a valid question and one I’m not certain of. However, if the mechanism which lead to the injury in the first place is avoided I’d venture to say your question is irrelevant. In other words, it’s not the disc you should be worried about, it’s the faulty movements which caused the injury in the first place. That’s what you should be focusing your attention on fixing.

      Yes, it can. The head injury isn't necessarily what can cause the cramps, but the lack of balance can. If balance is poor the muscles in the hips and legs must work harder to keep that person upright. Leg cramps can be a sign that this is what's happening.
