Would have been nice if you had mentioned *why* the troopers were looking for Ned and Dan, i.e. the alleged shooting of Fitzpatrick.

Just stumbled across this film. The attention to historical detail and accuracy in some parts of this film is quite amazing. I have just finished reading "The Kelly gang unmasked" which given its sources highlights how accurate this film is. Of course the events at Stringybark after McIntrye departs are either rely on Kelly's account or make your conclusions from available evidence. I think it is highly plausible that events unfolded this way but who can say with any certainty. I don't give Kelly's accounts much credence, mostly self serving in my opinion. I don't believe McIntrye would have lived had he not escaped. It was so refreshing to see this film steer clear of the Robin Hood angle and show that these Police were real people not just some keystone cops on horseback. If these events happened today the country would be horrified, as they were back then. As the Kelly's came to them it is hard to argue self defense. Congratulations to all involved thoroughly enjoyed the film and am so glad I came across it.

Sadly, things didn't end well for this German Soldier. Perhaps, had the first group that had taken him, held on to him, rather than calling in the Mad Dog MP's, he would have survived the war and returned home to his family. Of course, this is a short film and not a true story. Although, this type of thing surely occurred on both sides.

What an absolutely spellbinding account of that terrible day. The first time I have seen anything from the perspective of the policemen. Brilliant portrayal. I neither think the Kelly's were heroes or demons, just brazen, violent criminals. Thank you so much for a great rendition of such a tragic event in Australian history.

Stealing horses in those days could mean the difference between life and death, thats how serious it was. Cattle rustling was stealing someone's livelihood and means of survival. Times were incredibly tough in those days. The police out to arrest these thieves should be remembered as heroes and the gang as low life cowards, a stain on Australian history. Excellent production gentlemen.

  • @Jacquillo68

Thats a work of fiction. 😅 Ned Kelly never swore...in the Jerilderie letter he describes the police as "cowardly conduct of a parcel of big ugly fat-necked wombat headed big bellied magpie legged narrow hipped splaw-footed sons of Irish Bailiffs or english landlords" No swearing. You need to do better research. Go find out what happened to Fitzpatrick in Aug 1880..discharged from the force. Kelly admitted in the Jerildrie letter he sold plenty of stolen horses and cattle but was only ever charged for 8 being that he was selling them to the Victorian Police. The 1880's were different times. Of course a royal commission would not find fault in the VP, they would have arrest their own people. Of all the arrests they made to Kelly sympathisers, on trumped up charges, none of them caved to say a bad word against Kelly. They were also being harrassed by VP. People didnt glorify Kelly because he shot police they admired him because he stood up against the injustice being dished out by authorities during those times. And many many people knew he was set up. We didnt name pubs after him, and streets and tell his story all these years later because he was a cold blooded murderer. He wasnt. All sympathies to the families of those fallen police but it serves no purpose to try and paint Ned in some dark light because people already know what happened. Its legend. If you been to Victoria you would know this.

Edit: I'd also like to say what a fantastic 10 minutes this really was, you gents did a great job. I'd really love a Band of Brothers/The Pacific style series based on the British involvement of WW2. I respect our American allies for what they did but as a British citizen it'd be nice to see on film what my ancestors did for a change, from the start of the war in 1939 to its end in 1945, visualised in a way that it hasn't really be done before. I know there are films and shows but as far as I'm aware they're all quite old with the exception of a few from the top of my head such as Dunkirk, the imitiation game or 1917 which is of course set in WW1. If anyone has any suggestions please fire away 😊
