Floyd Rose Block Swap
This is a quick video showing how relatively easy it is to change a block, or really any other part, on your Floyd Rose tremolo. If you're installing a block with off-center spring holes, remember to orient the block so the spring holes are towards the knife edges / neck.

Lets Build a Warmoth Tele - Demo (Finally!)
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.Год назад
Hey everyone, lets demo a Warmoth Tele! Warmoth 1 piece swamp ash body, roasted maple neck, Fender 52ri pickups, Fender hot rod tele bridge. Warmoth electronics and a salvaged tone cap. About 2 years since it was put together, still plays great and gets a lot of use. Still no finish, it gets harder and harder to take it apart for that. Think it has DAddario 9's on it, if not 8.5's. Bends are gr...
Installing pickup riser on a Dynasonic pickup without desoldering

Removing metal shavings or steel wool dust from pickup pole pieces
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.3 года назад
In this video we'll look at a great way to remove steel wool dust or any other metal debris from your pickups pole pieces. The only tool you'll need for this job is fresh tape. I use blue painters tape but any masking tape will do this job safely. I've used packing tape as well but it doesn't hold onto the metal as firmly, not the best choice. Electrical tape is a bad choice because it'll make ...

Installing the Snap ring on a Bigsby
Просмотров 6333 года назад
In this video we'll look at how to install the snap ring, retainer ring, or circlip on the string retainer bar of a Bigsby vibrato. To do this job with the correct tool you'll need a pair of external snap ring pliers. Just like the ring itself, they can also be called retaining ring pliers, or circlip pliers. These can be found quite inexpensively, if you're into Bigsby vibratos this is a good ...
Lets build a Warmoth Tele - Tele earns its strings
Просмотров 3783 года назад
In segment 12 we'll be installing the first set of strings on the new Tele. We'll also look at some tips on stringing, or restringing, guitars in general, and how to uncoil D’Addario strings perfectly every time. If you're newer to changing guitar strings, this is also a great video to watch for a close up of restringing your F-style guitar, whether its a tele or another style.
Lets build a Warmoth Tele - Installing the neck
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.3 года назад
In segment 11 we'll be installing the neck. It's finally almost a whole guitar, we're getting really close now. The stainless steel 2 short 2 long neck screws for the cutaway heel came directly from Warmoth.
Lets build a Warmoth Tele - Soldering the wiring harness
Просмотров 2463 года назад
In segment 10 we'll solder the wiring harness, connecting the pickups to the switch, then to the volume and tone potentiometers and on to the output jack. I'd recommend lead-free eutectic solder and a good electronics soldering flux. Absolutely do not use plumbing type solder materials. Check the intended temperature range on the specific solder you are using. Don't use a solder gun, use a sold...
Lets build a Warmoth Tele - Laying out the control plate wiring
Просмотров 6133 года назад
In segment 9 we'll be putting down a protective layer to keep the guitar body from catching any dents or errant solder blobs, then laying out the wiring harness for the control plate and getting it ready to solder. A good layout and dry run ahead of time will minimize or eliminate time spent sitting and sucking solder fumes while trying to read a schematic.
Lets build a Warmoth Tele - Installing the tuning machines
Просмотров 4813 года назад
In segment 8 we'll be installing the tuning machines. The bushings just happened to fit in this case, watch out for a future video where we'll show how to enlarge your tuner holes with a reamer. The bushings should press fit by hand...most headstocks are going to need to be reamed, and if your headstock needs to be reamed and you attempt to install the bushings this way, you're gonna crack that...
Lets build a Warmoth Tele - Rolling the fretboard edges
Просмотров 4,7 тыс.3 года назад
In segment 7 we'll be rolling the fretboard edges to create a softer, broken in feel to the neck right away, in hours instead of decades. For some people this is an optional step, but I feel the process really transforms the neck. Hopefully we can take some of the fear and trepidation out of getting started. You'll find getting a broken-in feeling neck does not tie you to having a "relic" looki...

In segment 5 we'll be drilling the strap button holes and installing Schaller S-lock strap locks. The size of the Allen key is a size 3 mm / 1'8", and the stated specs for the screw we need to install is a 5/32", which is just shy of 4mm. I probably used a 3/32", which is 2.3813mm. In some soft woods you'd be able to use a 5/64" or 1.984mm bit instead. That said, I would check the specific dril...

You suggest that we get these but say nothing about what size tips we need. Even an Amazon link to those pliers thst fit would be helpful.

What is the model # of those tuners? I have gone through a Grotoh vintage set and a Fender roadworn vintage set, both were supposed to be 11/32 to match the holes Warmoth supposedly put in the neck, but in both cases, the bushings were too big and not even close. I have a message into Warmoth, but they take a long time to respond.

The ones I used were the Gotohs from Warmoth, SKU SD91-05M-6 I think. If the holes arent big enough for the ferrules to press-fit easily then I'd recommend picking up a cheap hand reamer, harbor freight usually has them under $15. Just go slowly with good light and use care not to go too far. Sorry to hear about the troubles, but I bet it'll be worth it in the end!

Good tip, I think thats probably the best option if theres no tape around. For me tape is a little more accurate and less focus intensive, so it usually works out slightly faster when considering touchup intonation afterwards. Thanks!

Yes it will be the same process and should work the same on the "Licensed" Bigsbys when using new parts. The "US" ones started using Metric threads some years ago now. The main differences are in the bearings, possibly metal composition and the casting process IIRC.

I had this problem on my DeArmonds today. I used steel wool a few days ago in the same room. Noticed the DeArmonds (T-Armonds actually) were covered in shavings. I tried masking tape first, but I ended up buffing them off with 10,000 grit sand paper as I was sanding and buffing the guitar to restore it.

    No ground to the bridge?

    • @rabidhamster
      @rabidhamster Год назад

Great question, the vintage tele setup is grounded by the bridge pickup screws threading into the copper-plated steel baseplate on the bridge pickup, which has the pickup ground connected to it. If you were installing a single coil sized humbucker or a single coil without a steel baseplate, you'd need to run an extra bridge ground also.

    • @rabidhamster

Usually they shouldn't buzz. You might try grabbing the whole assembly firmly with your hand and shaking or strumming in the way that causes buzz, and then slowly remove your hand from different areas and listen for when it comes back. If someone put on the wrong size or a worn out snap ring, I suppose that might buzz. They come out easier than it seems like they should. Congrats on the new Gretsch, I hope you like it!
