There are 5 soundtrack options (including the original if that's what you prefer). This soundtrack originally comes from the WiiWare version, and is also not my favorite of the 5 but it seems I was changing the music throughout the stream and this just happened to be the setting for this particular run.

It could be a positioning issue. For Heavy Press, the weak spot is only in the center, so be careful not to stand too far off to the side. Ballos phase 1 is all about staying within his hitbox and not missing any shots (it helps to start the fight near the edge of his hitbox and then move as little as possible). Then for phase 2, you should start shooting as soon as his eyes open, because despite the health bar making it look like he always starts with full health, he does still take damage before that.

Kappa is a Twitch emote indicating sarcasm/joking, so that split name should be interpreted as "Quick-kill (joke)". The "quick kill" here is referring to a strat we do in normal mode runs that involves fighting the boss in a certain way so that you end the fight with only 10-20 air remaining, which cuts out a lot of time waiting to drown after the fight. Although some version of that strat is _technically_ possible on hard mode (see ruclips.net/video/-5ok8mLJ2IQ/видео.html), I didn't go for it because it's very inconsistent (due to not having missiles on hard mode) and carries a high risk of getting hit and dying (because you have to get up close to the Core while it's still shooting at you).

The biggest mistake was boosting too low at 2:46 and hitting the side of the block instead of boost-jumping off of it, which cost me almost 0.5 seconds. (It's single-handedly the reason why the final split went from -0.7 to -0.3.) Besides that, Ballos phase 3 can theoretically be started all the way against the left wall, but even when testing it with a turbo button I haven't found a consistent strategy (yet) to make it work. And then of course, it's always possible to tighten up the movement throughout the level even more...(could theoretically save a few tenths with perfect play with the current strats)

@@litio9759 Unequipping the booster mid-boost preserves the speed from the boost. Otherwise you slow down instantly as soon as you let go of the button (or run out of fuel).

Yeah, I stream semi-regularly on Twitch, but the PBs don't always come at a regular pace hence the sometimes long periods between YT uploads. :p

Even with the Spur, most of the strategies are almost the same as what you see here. The main technique to know is that you can charge a Spur laser and save it for later by using the item screen to change weapons. The current WR on the Steam version uses the Spur, please feel free to take a look: ruclips.net/video/PB8IHG2IkSc/видео.html By the way, I'm using the Machine Gun mostly as an experiment. Using the Spur is probably still slightly faster, but it's unclear because each weapon has its own advantages and disadvantages. (Sorry for the late response, and for not knowing Japanese)

It's actually not, but speedruns of this level have traditionally always been based on the in-game timer so that's what I'm going with here.

Normally, releasing the booster (or running out of fuel) instantly halves your speed. But if you unequip the booster mid-boost, it doesn't do that and you get to keep the speed. Well, if it's after an upward boost, you'll still have gravity slowing you back down, so you'll have to re-boost and do it again repeatedly to avoid getting crushed.

Does the replay otherwise look like the 1'58" run that you completed? Sometimes the replays desync in the middle for unknown reasons, so maybe that is the recording of your run but it broke near the end for whatever reason.

@@periwinkle. It does look like a good run (did think it was the proper one) until I saw me dying at the end... Might have to do another run which is better and hope it saves then lol Only date achievements left though at least!
