Viscosity Modifiers (A Simple Explanation Examples)
Viscosity modifiers 2020 examples simple explanation viscosity index improver for modifying. What is viscosity modifiers?
Viscosity modifiers (VM) are polymeric molecules that are sensitive to temperature. At low temperatures, the molecule chain contracts and does not impact the fluid viscosity. At high temperatures, the chain relaxes and an increase in viscosity occurs.
Viscosity modifiers (VM) are used to reduce the influence of temperature on the viscosity of lubricants - Also known as Viscosity Index Improvers (VII)
Keep in mind that as temperature increases, the viscosity decreases. The addition of modifiers will only slow down the rate at which the viscosity decreases.

    The fuel economy claim you can't really test unless you modified your car to bypass the DEF sensor, so this is unlikely to be true. I've seen multiple sources of information that seem to be pushing a narrative making it seem like DEF is a necessity to physically help your vehicle run. At the minimum it's an electronic requirement in place by vehicle manufacturers, you will be put in limp mode if this runs out. While it is probably good for the environment and us, it mechanically doesn't do anything. It's like a catalytic converter on a gasoline car.. you don't need it.

    I switched to full synthetic about a year ago. However I just recently got my car looked at One of Ford's service centers and they recommended synthetic blend. My question is will that hurt my engine? I was running full synthetic and now potentially switching to a synthetic blend. And can I switch back to full synthetic at any time?

    • @lonniebeal6032
      @lonniebeal6032 2 года назад

      Hopefully not too late, but blend is a waste of money, there are no regulations as to what constitutes a blend. I went full synthetics in the late 80's, mostly Walmarts Supertech 10w30, but any full synthetic is better than conventional and pretty much all blends. ruclips.net/video/TWuKvnCq1js/видео.html

      It is impossible for DEF to increase fuel efficiency, quite the opposite. DEF is not part of the combustion process, therefore, it has absolutely nothing to do with fuel efficiency. DEF systems use energy developed by the engine to operate, so the DEF system decreases fuel efficiency by an infinitesimal amount, certainly not an increase! Ha!

    • @Pyrolonn
      @Pyrolonn 6 месяцев назад

      This is possibly the best answer I found, "With some of the older diesels you had "in-cylinder EGR (exhaust gas recirculation )", which basically included a third injection event with both intake and exhaust valves in an open state to do the burn. It involves some timing retardation and a weird cam profile, but because you're burning fuel and not getting power from it, it's lost mileage. Today it's easier to use DEF to treat the NOx versus trying to burn it before it got to the turbo, remove an injector event where the fuel isn't being made into power, and puts the timing back to a more "optimal" area to get all that power from the fuel being injected into the cylinders."
