I take the Falken A/T4W’s for a ride to my friends house to pick up an argon torch set and i bring you along for the ride. We see how the tires react to some slippery conditions both on road and the back roads. These tires are extremely predictable and inspire huge confidence. 10/10 in my opinion. I trust them. I thought that TFL snow braking test on the AT4W smelt very fishy as well. I have the AT4Ws as well and they are very wrong. I have seen numerous videos now including yous since then that show the AT4W as very good in winter conditions including braking . They should come out with an apology. They likely hurt some Falcon business on AT4Ws. Hopefully now that there are many reviews including yours which entirely show TFL right out to lunch on this that it hurts their reputation significantly. If you look at the current Tire Rack reviews on the AT4W they are top 2 in the category along with K03s including winter/snow performance where they are currently at a 8.9 excellent rating in winter snow/snow performance

    Thank you for this video. I was surprised at TFL's results and took the AT4's out of consideration for my next tire because of their test. Seemed that something was "off" in the stopping distance on snow, but I could not find anything that really challenged that result. I have since found 2 vids in the last 2 days about the "real" stopping distance for the AT4's. I'll be buying the AT4 for my next tire based on your video. Currently have Wildpeak AT3's on the 4Runner. If TFL really did fudge their results on the Wildpeaks, the fallout will be very painful. A lot of people base their purchases because of TFL's videos and knowledge. Once the reputation is ruined, it's gone forever. I'm sure there will be more videos about how the AT4's perform in snow, and TFL will have to explain themselves.

      @@davealling8847 im not trying to attack them but iv always looked at them as a source and have been a fan and a long time viewer/ subscriber. If they simply made a mistake fine. But these are amazing tires and for consumers to disregard them as you and many others have done because of a flawed test and a questionable conclusion, thats downright unfortunate. Lets put it this way, im 300 miles from home right now with a snowmobile trailer after riding all weekend. Im driving all the way home in a snow storm. Instead of having any worry, i have zero worry its going to be a great ride thanks to tires that are awesome in the snow. I dont know how much better you can get than that. Perhaps they had a bad set, had tire pressures maxed out, something wrong with the brake system or abs system or selected sheer ice to test them on instead of nice snow on either side of the compressed tire tracks. Whatever the reason, i made the video because i feel the tires got unfairly condemned and they do not deserve to be regarded as a dangerous tire. Quite the opposite. Driving up we had super icy conditions and even with the snowmobile trailer (no brakes) and 2 sleds, the truck still stops faster than 180 feet from 30. And this was downright slippery glazed stuff. Someone would slip walking on it.

    I watched this last night, and I don't think this is apples to apples here. weight matters with snow/ice. Pressure on ice, melts it, makes the surface contact patch a wet spot, not ice spot. Your weight on the contact patch is very different than the other what was it, a jeep I think. Also any road treated is going to have a lower freezing point and then melt under pressure. Could the rolling weight of the tire (67lbs for C | E) and how the Jeep computes breaking ABS pulse rates. I dunno.

  • @rjhein
    @rjhein 2 дня назад

    Thanks for making this :) Yeah at first glance, the TFL test does seem a bit off... But just a note - You're testing the commercial E rated version correct? This is rated to 80lbs correct? I believe TFL tested the passenger version. Likely max psi is 51lbs on that one. Falcon corprate says they have quite different tread compounds for weight/usage so snow/ice performance would naturally be quite different. Also, I believe that Jeep they tested was likely half the weight of your truck (or even less). That will impact results too. It's still good to see this, but to use it for comparison against a vehicle that weighs about half of this truck, using different tread compound, and likely significantly different pressure would most likely be a detriment to calculating any comparable baseline between this and the TFL test rig. An interesting thing, Tyre Reviews (channel) also reviewed the At4w in snow as well, it had closer results on snow to the TFL test.

      I saw the Tyre reviews test as well for comparisons but their snow day testing on the track was comprehensive due conditions not being right. I think they stated less grip and slightly less braking than other tires but no where near the extent of TfLs results. Hopefully Tyre Review will do a comprehensive snow test, because braking run in the snow isn't a test of a tire at all.

    • @rjhein
      @rjhein 19 часов назад

      @@davidwethington9320 Yup, you're right actually. I didn't realize they did that - just double checked. It still seems strange the difference was that significant (between tires). Falcon corporate said they stiffened up the tread compound in the 4Ws which likely lead to this outcome. What's interesting is that the 3Ws rank higher in snow performance, yet they still seem to last a long time, even in diesel applications

    Unfortunatley their test is farily flawed. All the tires thry used are Load range E 126/123s weight rated. A single tire is heavy duty enough to almost hold the weight of the entire jeep on its own (rated at 3,748lbs each). They need to be tested on a 3/4-1 ton truck application to get a truly fair test. For the record i dont own any of these tires or any of the three brands even. My point is that you may find the results are much different when on a vehicle that matches their weight ratings. Or hey, the test results all might be the same too....but i think it's really importantt to find out before touting/condeming one over another.

      @@AllAmericanAutomotive all fair points. Load range c’s would be even over kill. There is merit in load range d for puncture resistance over load range c. But e’s are going to be way overkill and potentially need to be aired down to like 20 psi for idea contact patch/ loaded shape. I really dont think any of that is going to matter to the ice/ hard pack snow breaking test. If you just choose a line that is ice and test the others on a line with hard pack that could help. But the thing is, on darn near ice i wasnt able to duplicate their test with more than twice the weight and i still stopped in half their distance, i guessed about 60 ish. I am rather shocked that these Falken AT4W are doing this well, that is pretty surprising for any AT tire period. I know what would happen with a typical mud tire on that same condition, lots of skidding and sliding to finally come to a stop being that aggressive on the brakes. And utterly useless in two wheel drive to get going without being extremely careful on the throttle.

      @@greatlakespowerstrokefx4 I had to laugh at the tire theme you've gone through as well, yes years back I wanted a mud terrain on my first pickup at the time but soon realized that it was not a smart move for the winter time, yes they did good in deeper snow as long as it wasn't glare ice under the snow, but all out glare ice roads were an accident waiting to happen, those were the original KM tires, then I moved to I think it was a Hankook mud tire that could accept studs so that was much better for the ice conditions in comparsion. But after that I moved away from mud tires on my personal pickup to a variety of AT tires, however I do buy mud tires for some of the farm pickups given what they drive on most of the miles they put on as per KM2 and now KM3 although they don't last good at all on the high percentage of gravel driving those pickups see, two wheel drive trucks with little weight on the rear so the muds stay on the rear and only get 8000 miles out of them and have had tire carcass failures at that distance, that didn't exactly make the KM2 tire seem entirely impressive. Last spring I bought a full set of Firestone MT2 mud tires for a 4x4 farm pickup but then didn't happen to have the mud ( thankfully ) to deal with in the fall so can't rate them there and haven't done much in the snow nor any glare ice roads ... yet. Back to A/T tires though, of the various ones I have used through the years that went on any icy roads, the worst ones happened to be the Cooper AT3. I will have to say those tires dated back some years now when they were installed and its very possible they have a different compound now but my god they were awful on glare ice, just as bad as a worn out mud tire, good thing I was not running them during the winter but happened to swap back to them just a little bit too soon one spring and had some ice to contend with. They certainly did not do as well as the original KO tires I had used prior and ironically did not even last as long, they were however more quiet then the KO tires by a fair margin.

I would jump to a mx4800 or mx5200 if you need more than what the l3902 or l4802 offer. I do believe you would do fine with storm clean up with your l4802 or l3902. You would just need to cut largo diameter trees shorter. The grapple should handle a 30 inch log around 6 or 7 feet long id think. To be able to carry, rip out more stuff going up a frame size is the ticket. The steering linkage rods are hidden behind guards also. I have loved using the grapple and I have picked up some heavy weight with it just need more umff. I appreciate your advice and comments and suggestions. I do have rim guard in my rear tires for ballast so that helps alot. @ you are exactly right the LA766 is the one for the L4802 and the LA526 is the one for mine and the 2502. The 4802 came out after i bought mine so it wasnt a part of my search. That is really interesting it has a heftier loader, its the same frame size. I will say you will be more or less limited with stability unless you have filled tires plus a huge 3 point implement to counter weight. The la766 has a max lift weight of 2147 at 1.5 meters off the ground compared to 1506 with the LA526 at 1.5 meters. Max capacity at full height for the la766 is 1675 and for the la526 1144. So the l4802 would be + 641 lbs for max lift at 1.5 meters and + 531 lbs for max lift height. Both of which would make a difference and probably honestly worth the upgrade. I didnt realize it got its own loader. I will say you might get told a really low number for your trade in and for that reason id just take extra trips

But i can tell you, take any dirt road we have around me right now. Where everyone drives is glazed ice. Exit that a few inches and you are back to a much higher traction surface. I like tfl and iv been watching them for years. I am but a small time youtuber. So i dont want to sound like a small channel attacking a well known one for clout. But at minimum i agree i find that so hard to believe. Iv been basically driving on all similar hard pack shallow snow ice conditions and on two difference vehicles and on two difference sizes of at4w’s and my opinion is nothing but these are cheater tires. So safe and predictable. The falkens are alot heavier that is true. I wonder if they are tripping up the abs system on the jeep. He first said he was applying enough pressure to approach a abs application. It appears he did that for the bfg’s and the firestones. He did appear to just lock them up and abs the falkens down. Being in abs is less braking performance than an impending skid. Id braking just enough to not reach abs. Abs is there to unlock the tire to maintain steering. So if he either on accident locked them up with the falkens id expect worse performance than using limit braking with the other two. I really hate to believe it was done on purpose. If i didnt own two sets i wouldnt be thinking like that. I would be interested to see if the calibration of such a light jeep with such large heavy tires is greatly affected by tire weight. There is no doubt the falkens are heavier. I havent found it to be an issue on a f350 or expedition max but that doesnt mean a two door jeep abs might be displeased about 20 lbs heavier per tire weight. Im so glad you shared this with me because its really got me wondering if its innocent, a simple result of the abs system not working as well with a heavier tire or deliberate. I can greatly change handling and braking by driving on the glazed tracks. Interestingly i havent found doing that to make the truck feel any less safe. Ill do some abs vs not abs tests tomorrow and see how they do and film them. They have 100k views on their video, i wish i could do that and im jealous of that jeep😂

      @@greatlakespowerstrokefx4 Thank you for your reply and as I know from watching your videos you don't bs around, you tell it like you experience it for the good and the bad, it just is what it is. That is why I wanted to give you the heads up about that video to get your impression because of now running two sets of the AT4W. I personally have a set of the AT3W but I have so far never had them on a winter road as I have dedicated winter tires. Years ago I had a set of the original KO tires and would say compared to other all terrains I had before and after, they did a bit better as per the ice situation but I will say there is no comparison to a higher end true winter tire even with no studs compared to a typical all terrain tire. That very soft highly siped compound of a NEW winter tire just makes all the difference but even that can't perform miracles ... studs with the same tires gets a little closer yet. Of course this is all out glazed ice I am speaking of, not the compacted snow of that test they did with the Jeep. I have to wonder if like you said, that heavier tire and in theory a bit stiffer sidewall and it is a 10 ply tire after all ( although I believe they all were I think ) , and although they said the tire pressures were the same in all three tire tests, again if one tire lets say doesn't flex as much under the weight of a light Jeep for the size of that tire, the tire performance is going to be different as well. More testing would be needed, lowering pressures to a proper pressure on all tires and so forth. Their testing of the AT4W failed so bad that it would be like comparing a worn out summer tire to a new winter tire, it still blows my mind. Don't worry about your subscriber base or views, yes I realize its all work to do the videos but in all honestly I find some smaller channels that are putting out information for the sake of wanting to share information far more reliable then a huge youtube channel that they are counting on having to make the big bucks as that is their job period so they exaggerate and click bait. Sad to say but these days the key to generating views and drastically increasing subscribers is finding a hot young thing to wear skimpy clothing to add into the video. But don't do that .... 😂

      @ iv been watching tfl for a very long time. I have never perceived and all out lie but many times iv found them to not quite know what they were doing. I would say i can recreate terrible performance simply by finding the worst patch of snow to do a braking test on. At the very end of the firestone test it locked of and slipped sideways. That is evidence to me of not a uniform surface. Testing like this is hard to make repeatable simply because of the surface variation so you have to be careful concluding results without back to back to back testing. And taking an average and informing the viewers of the limitations of the test and what efforts you made to keep it uniform, and acknowledge the expected error. None of those expected things were done which is concerning. I would not put my name on that being a irrefutable test. Like i said, i was just driving in sheer ice and even did a bit of braking in this video. I will make time to do more because i really dont believe the at4 got a fair shake. Im a big fan of ko2’s for winter use. They are extremely solid tires too. I did order ko3’s and considered them for my f350. I even intended on doing ko3’s on my expedition. But the performance was so good on the at4’s as well as the way the balanced i went with another set of at4’s on the expedition. I wish i had a large enough channel to do some more head to head testing. I cant constitute buying a 1700 dollar set of extra tires to make 20 bucks on a video lol. If really like to get to that point. Like i said, i dont want to ever have a reputation of a small channel attacking larger channels for publicity but, in this case, a lack of scientific testing followed by a conclusive result is a bit disappointing from a channel i have been watching for years. Im sure you remember the gold mine hill off road test. Simply taking different lines yields different results. And they more or less stated the lines they were using and their own driving skill as a limitation. This video is rather conclusive for the method used in my opinion. Thanks for sharing and it drives me to make more content with clear evidence and testing so consumers have more information to make decisions on. We cant use studded tires here in Michigan on the road. I have owned many sets of true winter tires. Blizzak and mastercraft glacier grips and my dad had a bridgestone set on his fiesta too. There is no doubt true soft winter tires are a cut above and studded is a whole different level

    • @charlesb4267
      @charlesb4267 5 дней назад

      @@greatlakespowerstrokefx4 Doing accurate or may call it "scientific" testing is on a whole other level that takes a lot of attention to detail and eliminating all variables, requiring a lot of repeatable results using accurate instruments or means of measuring the outcomes. Of course TFL threw in some careful wording to make sure they were not accountable to their test results but I saw repeatedly after that video on other channels or forums, those results were certainly swaying future buyers of tires with all the comments flying around about how awful the AT4W did in that test and therefore were going to buy a BFG or something else. An interesting note you may find amusing, years back before BFG came out with the KO2 they did some testing of that tire in this area of Alberta and I assume it was on oilfield pickups given the nature of the testing as it was the testing of the tire on crushed gravel roads. BFG came out with an article in a western Canadian trucking magazine bragging up their new improved KO2 over the original KO tire as to how much more chip and wear resistant it was over the original design and it certainly sounded like a fantastic tire ( again keep in mind its a BFG written article ). This dates back quite a few years now so fast forward to recent times and tire shops that have key people or owners of their store that have been seeing what works and what doesn't for certain applications, they ask the customer what their intended use is, what amount of gravel will you be driving and if its much gravel at all they most definitely do not recommend the KO2 which may shock you but it became apparent that it did not fair well at all due to the rubber chipping but that the carcass would stone drill and the tire would have a catastrophic failure well before it was worn out. And these long time guys in the tire business when I would comment about that article from years back, they all were well familiar with that and just shook their head as the tire did not at all meet the hype that the article made the tire out to be. Having said that, they did recommend it as one of the better A/T tires for winter use but pointing out its never going to perform like a winter tire. So summer before last when I went to more than one tire shop to chat about tires for my pickup and various tires were discussed but zeroed in on the KO2, Toyo AT3 and the Falken AT3W, it was the Falken that was their recommendation out of the three for ability to survive the gravel better. Not that they were claiming it was the ultimate in a gravel tire but that they had way better luck with it holding up to the torture. So who knows how the KO3 and AT4W will play out on the gravel as this takes some years to establish a trend of success or failure ( we have a vast amount of gravel grid roads up here if you were wondering why gravel was an important consideration ). Minnesota and their view on studded tires, yes I came across that rather startling discovery a few years back as I "assumed" of course Minnesota would allow winter tires and I had even driven once through MN during the winter and closer to Minneapolis it was a horrendous glare ice condition at the time as well as into Wisconsin heading east. Blows my mind that they have kept that law in place and as well I believe they don't even allow their own snow plow trucks to put tire chains on if conditions warrant it, and no vehicles commercial or otherwise allowed tire chains. Here in Alberta, oh yes they allow tire chains on the highways as every so often we get a condition where trucks have to throw them on to get up the various river hills and in fact studded tires are allowed year around although hardly anyone would do that anyway. Sorry for my long posts, I am bad for that !.

      Im a bit disappointed in the hydraulic lifter engines. Their failure rate is pretty bad. With this new design you would think they modified the engine to be reliable with hydraulic lifters. If they did that, that huge issue will likely be avoided. Id be confident in being concerned with a 24 if you are planning to keep it outside of powertrain warranty. But im somewhat confident they took the issue seriously and addressed it with this entirely re designed version. I wouldnt really worry about glow plugs on the 25. I see that as an upgrade especially if you arent deleting. The egr really cakes up the grid heater after about 60-80k miles. Now i would always caution against a first model year. Lots of bugs get worked out. But at the same time i couldnt confidently tell you the 24 is a better bet. If it was me, and the cummins was the truck i wanted, id give a 2025 a shot and be open minded to first year problems that need to be warrantied.

    I didnt know you had an old chevy too! I jave an 05, along with my 22 Godzilla 250 like yours. Mine has 252k, kinda funny. I love the ford but idk, something about the GMT800s i do love them. I have the most redneck shifter linkage setup but it was the only way i could get it to stay properly.

    Take my advice. As soon as you get your truck manually lock both front hubs Keep them locked at all times because it doesn't hurt anything. Do not depend on those air actuated hubs.

    Ford, get rid of variable oil pressure pump, make a HO version (600lbft), and max tow numbers for it. I will buy it this Tuesday.

      @@laszlovass7326 that would be sweet but you would be hard pressed to “need” 600. Obviously more the better but it is really good as is. I dont love the oil pump either but thank the epa. Im amazed thet are even allowed to make something this good. Modern port injection, power and torque that make a 460 seam lame plus crazy fuel economy. I love it

    Came for the comments. Last message I saw about a gas owner is that we all sit down to piss. 🍿 🤷‍♂️

      @@darriusmorris6980 on my video? I didnt see anyone talk like that in the comments. If i missed it my bad. Always so much drama. I like both my 6.7 and my 7.3. I love diesels, i own two cummins trucks and my dad also owns a cummins. But my 7.3 was the right truck at the right time and its been a huge asset. Besides that i like it

      @@greatlakespowerstrokefx4 I most definitely agree. I’ve watched a couple of other videos regarding a gas truck over a diesel. The comments are always against any gas owners so I figured I’d check out these comments also. I love them all as long as they get the job done. 🫡

      @ i try to be very positive and practical. It tends to not get feathers ruffled. But people who are seriously interested in gas content deserve quality experience and advice.
