Today i go back onto schwalbe tyres to test out their new radial casing technology. It was interesting and i started the day with far too much pressure before ending up with not enough. The casing feels well dampened, but always feels soft even when you have too much pressure, you only really feel the difference once you start to push the tyre. I'm going to change sizes and also going to run fr...

Forgot to turn my microphone on so your stuck with camera audio I've done my best with. Single take 3rd run down this track, last run I didn't realise the bottom kept going and stopped before the finish, middle section is super fun but lost the back in a slippery berm. Dirt was super slippery today but great fun, trying to make it to the bottom without coming off today was the main goal.

At 3:22 what song is that!!??
Perhaps compare a purple ultra soft super gravity (orange tag is harder compound)
I do have purple now, I originally ordered ultra soft but was sent the wrong tyre. Surprisingly the orange compound is still very soft, when measuremt it was a 56, ultra soft a 53. Both seem great, ive got a mullet setup 2.6 on back order to get the full experience 🤙🤞
Hopefully they will launch more tire models, casings, rubber and tire size options sooner than later. I'm actually very interested especially for rear tire as I'd like more traction for techy uphill sections as I ride that a lot and I have a bike that are more downward oriented. Any extra help for getting up is welcomed.
The radial casing offers more traction from using a larger foot print. This is great although it results in a 30% greater amount of resistance to the gravity casing. So it will be harder to go up on a long day, especially on the back. I haven't got my back tyre yet so I don't have first world experience with it
@@LifeofScottDenney Harder to go up? No, what I'm talking about is more bite so you reduce the chance of spinning the tire. I'm not talking about rolling resistance, but bite. Most people only consider how tires function going down, and well, what about climbs... It's a bit weird to see you give me that kind of answer when you were the one who made this video to begin with. If it works down it works straight forward and it works up as well. It shows how the tire are more prone to shape it self to and around the things it is rolling over rather than just rolling over it. That = BITE. That will definitely help trying to clear techy uphill sections with rocks and roots and what not, because it will rather try to claw itself upthere and dig in, than just trying to roll over and eventually slip and it's game over.
@@a8f235what you are saying is exactly correct. I've seen many ebikers talk about it, although schwalbe themselves have noted how poor the rolling resistance is so it's worth noting that aspect if we are talking about climbing ability. Think of trails bike traction, or a cars tyre in the sand, traction from the casing or rubber comes at a cost. As above I'm still yet to ride the radial both front and rear but I'm excited to try it to see if the claimed resistance is bad. Schwalbe noted it would be the same resistance as running a magic mary from and rear.
@@LifeofScottDenney I'm a trail rider and my goal is never amount of miles or logging data or anything of that nature. I own a bike with slack seat tube angle so the front get light pretty easily. I'd just like any form of help I can to tackle techy uphill as well even though the bike isn't really designed for it. Lots of people claim Maxxis DHF/DHRII maxxgrip has too much rolling resistance as well, and personally I find them to roll very good for what they are. So, I'm more than open to test a radial tire on the back because no matter where I ride where I live, there's just techy uphill sections all over the place. Got to get up there somehow and pushing the bike is just sad.
@@a8f235I hope the tyres do what you want mate, just so you know I would consider a dhr a decently rolling rear. There's better and there's worse but it's a good medium imo.
Interesting test, but makes the point. I'll be getting some Schwalbe radials when they come out.
What country are you in? Should be released in most now but also they're sold out here
USA. I'm waiting for the Magic Mary. I don't see it for sale yet. The Albert is sold out or not in the compound or size I want yet.
Side note: your bike is ninja quiet even on that janky chundery stuff! You can only hear the rubber on the terrain. Soooo nice!
I find the new wireless t type drivetrains make the bike way quieter. Must have much better clutch designs. Cheers mate!
Could I run xynotal front and rear for more speed or is the xynotal up front going to be sketchy?
@tristwallace i can't see a reason why you can't, seen plenty do it on trail bike setups, the sides are still very aggressive. If you are interested the enduro supersoft release should be in the new year. an enduro super soft xynotal front would be beneficial as the soft one are still a pretty firm rubber.
hopefully its shreds the mud like the magic mary. i hate how maxxis clings mud
Seems a bit like the Albert is a summer tyre
@@KiwiInGermanyMTB yes, lugs are very close together. Far closer than I was expecting, expecting to be great for hardpack and loose over hard
Does Assegai measure wider in 2.5? Wondering if the Albert 2.6 would be the same width as an Assegai 2.5
@@thewholetrail they are on backorder sadly. So I haven't got to look at one yet
Do you smash the rim if you run the same pressure as on maxxis?
@@rokbukejlovic currently I'm only running a front, rear will be on when I can get one. It's hard to tell, the 2.5 is more like a 2.35, i want to get a 2.6 to see how that handles the pressure. I'm running maxxis front tyre pressure (23psi) and I havent had a major one, In the video it was down to 21psi once i was home and it was all wrong... I'll be going up to 24psi and playing around with it
Interesting result. Schwalbe said in their promo videos for this that the radial was supposed to work better at higher pressures than a traditional tire. The tread and those angled sipes definitely reminds me a lot of the Kryptotal and right now the DH casing Kryptotals are my go to tire.
the shape and profile remind me lot of the kryptotal fr, it is very square edged and higher surface area though. still experimenting with pressures to get them right
you have to wait for the casing to break in aswell, you can hear it wearing in when its new, once thats all settled it will be interesting what air pressure i end up on.
The new Schwalbes look promising. I can confirm the Conti Kryptotal tires are fucking sorcery where grip is concerned. Edit: I’m on Enduro Soft Kryptos
@@jeremyprovonsil7886 do you think the Albert's would be alright in wet or even muddy condition ? I wanted to go magic mary radial front and albert rear. But only the Albert's are available for now where i'm from, don't really know if i should pull the trigger or wait.
That doesn't mean that you have to use a higher pressure, but that you *_can._* If you aren't riding Red bull Rampage, 30PSI is too much for most people.

Wow ! Bloody quick mate. You liked the bike?
Bike was awesome, I'll try a bigger motor next, and a full power bike and see what route I take
Considering how techy and long most of our climbs are, it makes sense to have an ebike haha Ever so considering one myself 😅
I don't think I would go 100% ebike, but if I was going to something like this fuel would be a great pick to still get involved in the climbs. Or better yet a new slash+ so you have everything in one package. I think I'd rather have both atm though so I'll see how a full power one goes
@LifeofScottDenney yeah that's fair, I think I would rather a really efficient hardtail for quick rides and a nice FS ebike as a combo for rocky's trails haha
Ive heard you can buy re cone kits for the sub?

Thanks a ton!

Have any trouble getting the DH casings on the rim? Have heard people saying they are super tight and hard to mount.
Depends on what you compare it to I guess, compare to a double down or an exo+ it is harder as the casing is much harder and doesn't stretch. It is hard to get on most rims but far from impossible, I guess that's why people say it's rare to burp a continental though.
CRESTLINE RS180 came w the 2.4 f & r. KRYPTOTAL Front. I’d like to have the 2.5 or 2.6 KRYPTO Enduro in Super Soft Enduro too. Missed my 2.6 up front. Put on an 2.6 ASSEGAI MAXX TERRA EXO+ Whoa! Where’d my Rolling efficiency go? Feel the added weight too, Cornering and Wheeling. Sticky? Yes. Much better? Not so. Come on Conti! Give us that KRYPTO 2.5 enduro casing SS Great info - Thx for sharing.
Cheers for the reply, definately what we need. I've seen information circling of a enduro super soft but no diameter info. They make 2.6 casings in the rear and in the argotal so no reason they can't give us it either. Let's hope it's soon!
Why i am holding off on Conti for right now, no 2.5 or 2.6 for Front specific tires. Feeling like they missed the mark there. Being 73" tall and 220 lb rider weight, the 2.5-2.6" front tires definitely help improve cornering for me. 2.4 F/R is just a deal breaker for me, no matter how grippy they are. Balancing on smaller width tire makes a huge difference in feel and turn in.

I got kryptotal supersoft dh fr+re and I'm blown away. I came from maxxgrip assegai fr and dhr2 re with cushcore trail inserts. No need for cushcore with the continentals cause the casing is super thick, not to mention better that maxxis across the board. You're right about the lugs having a lot more support, they dig into loose pack wayyy better and don't squirm on hardpack like maxxgrip. The rolling resistance is noticeably faster. For being cheaper than maxxis, performing better, looking better, and not coming with the maxxis "death wobble", it's a deal for me. I just wish they made supersoft in more widths and casings, crossing my fingers!

what's your weight? just interested to see what those pressures are compared to weight. lack of enduro supersoft seems to be such an oversight on an otherwise epic set of tyres, my absolute favorites
I'm about 78kg mate, can go as low as 18psi on the front without major issues but usually run around 22 as my trails do benefit from rolling speed. Rears I have played with around 22psi. This is on the downhill casing , abit higher using the enduro casing
How did u learn to do this

you got the casings mixed up but other than that great review!
Hey mate, loved the review, for such a small channel (similar to mine xD) you expained things better than many bigger ones out there. Now to my question :) I've used Michelin DH22 and 34 combo, loved the grip but not the dragginess. Now I'm on Assegai and DHR2 combo, but they don't give me enough confidence on wet-ish slippery terrain, dry seems to be absolutely fine. So I'm contemplating what to do now, do I go for Conti Kryptotal rear and Kryptotal Front (enduro casing, softer on the front), or maybe for new Michelin WIld Enduro MS front and MH at the back, or even new Michelin DH22 and DH16 at the back. Have you tried any of Michelins and if so, how would you compare them to Contis? Same question to anyone readin comments, help bro out :D Thanks!
Hey mate, cheers for the reply. I haventtried any michelins yet, they're very high on my list but a few things have set me back. The tyres you've mentioned do have high amount of drag and weight so for my locals I haven't tried them. I was really looking forward to the MH, MS tyres and to run the new rear specific except they don't make or haven't imported 27.5 rears so I can't run them with my mulletwheelset. Extremely disappointed. As for the wet weather question it is a hard one, I don't think anything with grip we'll it rocky/roots wet stuff that isn't mechanically minded, such as the argotal. That is a tyre that's given me far more confidence than the assegai in the wet. You'd definately want something with mechanical grip over rubber traction, I havemt personnaly used the kryptotals in such conditions but I'd imagine they perform similarly to an assegai. I've used my argotal at cairns in wet weather through roots etc and thought it was brilliant so I'd imagine your michellin pairing would be similarly as good. It's all give and take, best bet is a wer specific front imo.
Do you run them tubeless?
@@S1ckb0t yeah tubeless, downhill casing is pretty thick and stiff so you can go pretty low. Full traction you can go down to 18-20psi, but I run 22psi front and 24psi rear now for abit more speed on my local trails.
What about for just on a 120mm travel trail bike? (I have bigger bikes). You wouldn't even run the trail casing on that?
@@powskier the trail casing in the endurance compound was increadibly fast, like I felt it instantly. I didn't have luck with it but our trails are very rocky, a friend of my put one one his bike a few months ago and he hasn't had any dramas. If you run say an exo or a trail casing in other brands you'll probably be OK
@@LifeofScottDenney So you are saying grip wasn’t a problem. It was that the casing didn't hold up in rocks?
@@powskier I didn't get a chance to test of the endurance rubber, if it's in the rear it wouldn't be a drama. Don't know about fronts, all depends of how hard your comparing it to. My friends still running his on the rear and loving it. Yes, I had an issue with a stick straight in the middle and a rock cut. Something I've never gotten on a exo+ maxxis. If the trails you hit are rocky I'd go enduro
eh, i thought the kryptotal F and the xenotal (rear) was a great set. then i tried the attack hpl and the trail boss. i think the latter eeks out a bit of speed, without losing any grip on hardpack and LoH.
I've actually got an Attack FSX, attack HPL combo to try next. Looking forward to it
Hey man! You're a damn good rider on our trails haha Right now, I am riding with some maxxis DHR || on both front and rear (it's sadly all I had at the time haha) You reckon it would be worth the leap to continentals? Or just wear out what I have till I can't use them I occasionally have slip ups on sections I really just shouldn't haha
Cheers mate, but hey I've tried alot of tires and nothing is really worth a change without being completely wrong. The DHR is a great tyre and I'm currently on one. The conti's just have a much longer life and are a little faster. In hero dirt I feel the maxxis comes out in all out grip but on loose over hard it's a pretty even battle. Every brands main difference seems to be how the casing reacts and feels, I think you should just wait for it to wear out but sometimes a new set of socks feels as good as a holiday is you know what I mean.
@LifeofScottDenney ah nice! Well, I will think more about it haha 😄
Sounds like you've learnt a lot from this! If your worried about using more space for the boot just get another car :) Here was my previous setup before i uninstalled it. Will be doing 2x Deaf Bonce 3012R with 4000wrms build later this year. ruclips.net/video/-aVpm-Wjbh4/видео.html
Cheers for the comment and video you've shares, I'd definately love the chance to give an X a go. Going to try another amp to compare them with this cheaper pioneer amp soon, aswell as another sub I'd like to try.
I was looking at those db subs a while back, they're so sick!
would you consider it from an SQL standpoint to be overkill? im looking for a clean setup and am considering running 2 r2w10's or even 2 r2w8's. not interested in loud but just clean bass. also considering shallow mount RSw10's. got a 1200 watt amp to run.
Hey mate, I do believe the SQL is still on point. It is not exactly loud compared to what you might think, mainly like this to play low well. I'm currently redesigning the setup to run 1 of them so I can have some boot back. I originally wanted to run some 8's aswell. I had one and the bass was really nice. If you look into my other video on these it might be slightly informative but the space required to make these work the way they show if large, you'd be looking a 1.8cu/ft +port per sub minimum. Any smaller and the output isn't work the power to them. I bought these is the factory alpine box's and the output was horrible, worse than my 2 rockfords p1's on 800w and these had 1600w, they are such a big woofer they displace alot so the box konda had to go up with them, 2 8's would be neat as if you need to work with less space. Hope that makes sense.
