HS360 2021 How big of a buck made that large rub?
Nice..From my 32 years of hunting out of box stands in the open. I’ve learned that big bucks and does don’t care about the location of the stand if the wind is right. They still come out and walk to the feeder lol. I even drive my pickup truck to the edge of fields sometimes and hunt right from the driver seat and just shoot out the window. All while leaving my truck running for the heat.
Can you tell me the name of the Tar River Facebook page? I can’t seem to find it.
The F/B group name is: Tar River Saya 507/505/907 No Till Drill Community
❤ thanks
Great video. How big was your plot? Do you guess planting rye furing the fall so there is food in late November?
The plot is about 1.6 acres +/-
Did you add any other seed during the fall?
No, the plot was so thick it wasnt necessary & proably wouldnt had grown much. It fed deer through to the end of our seasons.
I did this before seeing this video, this was my first year, tons of sorghum and switch all growing beneath it. Seamed to work great
Put a coyote decoy out to keep Sandhills away. Had to on my farm we had over 1000 cranes hitting my corn
Good Stuff . I like those stands but a bit too much glass "shine" tho . Camo is Essential . !
When do you start walking the property. Do you still stay out of the bedroom till spring or do you walk everything after season is done?
I start by early to mid December depending on season closure date, i like to see every bedding area if and when possible once season is over.
It looks like the chicory overtook the clovers, except where you overseeded the clovers later. Do you think the 60/40 are good percentages or do you think it could use more clovers?
I personaly really like the high percentage chicory, the areas I over seeded with straight clovers are areas I missed when I first planted the plot.
@habitatsolutions360llc3 I would think the clovers would help provide N to the chicory...but the chicory looks healthy as if it has what it needs.
Would love to know availability for your mod, thank you!
What do you plant in those shady trails?
Typicaly annual crimson clover.
I would buy one of these kits in a heartbeat for my 507. It isn’t as big of a deal on the small seeds but for planting bigger seeds with this drill it’d be a game changer. Would love to know whenever it becomes available for purchase
Man I just tipped my flaps down on about a 50 degree angle and my flappers work great just needed the extra down pressure 👍
I would be interested in this mod as well. Can we pre order?
Jake I had the same issues and after 3 yrs. of fighting it I sold my Tar River this spring and went back to tilling the soil. I got discussed using a pice of equipment that 75-80% effective. If I had known what you were working on I would have kept it and purchased a closing unit from you. Bob
Jake....I believe your improvement will make this a really good no till planter, I wish I had hung on to it. Great job in the retro fit and improving it. Bob
I too would like to purchase a modified kit for my 505 drill. Would appreciate any updates on the kit when available. Again, thank you.
I too am interested in purchasing the modified kit for my 505 drill. Thanks and great work on your video.
I had a saya 507 for one season and sold it. Bought a genesis this year and was well worth the extra money.
What size tractor will pull this? Not sure if my 26hp would handle it. Good to know on the drill though.those pesky sandhill cranes. They’re a menace to food plotters and farmers
My Yanmar is a 37 hp tractor, your 26 hp may be too light for that drill.
@@habitatsolutions360llc3 yeah seems like i looked into these before and that was the issue. guess i need a bigger tractor :)
Thanks Jake
Hey Jake, nice mod for the drill! Keep us updated on your progress toward offering the kit for sale.
I have the 505 and would like to purchase the modified kit
As soon as I have a price and delivery I will contact you.
I bought this exact same drill two years ago and was sorry I did because of the same problems you identified. This retrofit is absolutely amazing and exactly what I needed. I can't wait for you to offer this modification. Other problems you will find is that the bolts come loose. The first day I used it I found a mechanical nut in the field I just drilled. However, as per the FB support group, use a little Locktite and this should limit the problem.
How does new closing wheels work in drilling thru stubble
I just built this prototype in the past month I have'nt tryied, but I will plant in a thick residue/stubble in the next week or two and will post an update on my channel.
very innovative, jake! Other than the closing issue, any other issues with the drill? I've heard clients of mine who have tar river drills say theyve had to go through and tighten all the nuts and bolts back down after a day's use. Have you had that issue?
Being a low entry price-point anyone that buys this drill should expect to do a once over on all bolts, screws, chains, sprokets you name it. Luckely for me I found the Facebook tar river community page and did a 100% once over & lubed the chaines and sprockets before I used it These issues may originate from the implement dealers depending how thorough they are going over their checklist and what experiance level employees they hire.
Good work Jake!
Is there an advantage to spraying plus crimping vs just crimping? I’m interested in this method as I’ve got heavy clay soil as well with limited access with heavy machinery other than some homemade atv implements. Great info!
As they say one man's advantage is anothers disadvantage, Im not sure there is crimping it green preserves more soil moistre and in the rye stems, but I did have a better soybean crop in the sprayed to terminate & then crimped 10-days/2weeks later.
Another great video Jake! I love those runways behind your wall of cover along the food. If I'm able, I use that same set-up and you're right, those travel-ways can be awfully fun during the rut. Please keep sharing your knowledge with the next generation of deer habitat managers!
Smooth move exlax. Just let your dog walk through the Glysophate or whatever you are using. I'm not wasting my time watching a guy that isn't smart enough to know why you shouldn't do that. Idiot.
I’m leaving a 10 yard strip of field around my food plots. I will have to go through and hinge some trees to help promote browse in these areas
I couldn't agree with you more Jake. Thx
Great video, that area along your food must have really come a long ways since I’ve been there. Love the hinge cut areas and travel corridors thru them to get to the destination food. Gives me some ideas. You’re so right about the “process” thanks Jake!
Yes it has Steve a lot of young growth that has started to mature since you saw it last.
Great video Jake. Early successional growth/browse is underappreciated by many.
Thanks Kurt!
can you put this in as a fall planting with maybe oats as a cover
You can it's a pernnial and needs adeqate time to germinate & grow roots to survive the winter and browse pressure if thats a problem.
If you’re going to plant a spruce plant a White rather than Norway. Native north American trees will always fit better in the habitat and be favored by all critters
Another great video, Jake.
Jake do you have video with more information on growing swtch grass with egyptian wheat? Whats the seed rates are and what not?
I try to seed the HD sorghum @ 12-15 lbs/acre seeding rate and broadcast the switchgrass @ 7-10 lbs/acre seeding rate, my goal is a very thick switchgrass screen not to create bedding habitat.
What's your opinion on adding oats as a cover crop with the spring planting? Thanks for the great educational videos.
Oats as a nurse crop can really be beneficial especially when you have a high deer density.
That matted section of SG🌾, would that self choke out if not burned and managed ? I am finding that in my stand since I can not burn🔥 in my area . Think mowing and chopping that Thatch up in spring would help prevent that in my situation ?
The S/G is coming up through it pretty good now, If I hadnt been doing a side by side test Id have burned the matted section for sure.
@@habitatsolutions360llc3 thanks for reply , love what you do 👍🏼👍🏼
I basically did the same except I put HD screen along the shady side of my switch. Both turned out better than expected except the farmer nuked 200' of my switchgrass. That was 2 years ago. He stayed way off my edge this year so far. Got some RC Bigrock to fill in my original Cave and Rock. Also sprayed quinclorac the first weekend in June to get rid of some foxtail grass. Hope it does the trick for me. Anyway, nice video sir.
Going to do this over 4th July. Both spots are close to a pond and I'll irrigate 1.5 2 inches of water over 3 days.
Good info. I just planted some sudan sorgum as this years screening
Favorite videos on RUclips!!!! How’s that no till drill working for you??
Thanks Aaron, its working pretty good, Ill do a video update once the growth progresses more.
Jake, your 360 looks phenomenal...thanks for sharing. Bob
What about adding rye in fall to that mix then mowing that off in late spring ? Think that would Give some more tonage later into seaon maybe ??
Looks great Jake
Just planted switch using your method with sorghum mixed in. Fingers crossed!
Im uploading an update video on that combination screen in a few days, Good luck!
Very nice. That plot is killer.
I agree Kurt!!
Thanks for the video this day, Jake. Always interesting to view. See you on the next! 🙂👍🇺🇸
