This variation is cool because it limits range of motion and hypertrophy. All this does is make the lift less effective. FULL RANGE OF MOTION ALL DAY LONG.
Not necessarily true, the majority of hypertrophic response you'll get from a Hipthrust is the hold at the top, not the bottom. This changes pending the muscle group and movement. But in the case of this movement, you can lift a great load and push the glutes harder in the portion of the movement that has the biggest contribution to growing them (somewhat similar to how the bottom of a squat stimulates growth, not the top where you're standing straight). The hipthrust challenges the glute in the shortened position, an RDL is a good glute based movement that challenges the Glutes in the lengthened position. We still also program full ROM Hipthrusts as well :)
