Hans Werner Henze - Symphony No. 2

I. Lento - Allegro II. Allegro molto vivace III. Adagio The symphony was written using twelve-tone technique. The first movement alternates large blocks of material in 3/4 and 4/4 time. Henze originally wrote five such blocks but cut the middle one before the first performance. The second movement is fast and energetic. It begins with a seven bar introduction followed by a seven bar theme in wh...

Un véritable choc musical en 1983
Composed 1967/1968
Das gewaltige Orchester der Oper benötigt die folgenden Instrumente: ====== Holzbläser: vier Flöten (1. und 2. auch Piccolo, 3. und 4. auch Altflöte), Oboe, Oboe d’amore, Englischhorn, Heckelphon, Es-Klarinette, Klarinette, Altklarinette (oder Bassetthorn), Bassklarinette, Sopransaxophon, Tenorsaxophon, zwei Fagotte, Kontrafagott Blechbläser: vier Hörner, Piccolotrompete, zwei Trompeten, Basstrompete, Altposaune (Tenorposaune), Bassposaune, Alt-Ophikleide (oder Bombardino), Bass-Ophikleide (oder Posaune mit Quartventil), Bombardon (oder Tuba in F), Wagnertuba, Basstuba, Kontrabasstuba Pauken, Schlagzeug (zwölf Spieler): drei Triangeln drei hängende Becken Paarbecken drei Gongs Kuhglocken fünf Tamtams baskisches Tamburin kleine Militärtrommel drei Bongos Tabla orientalischer Holzblock große Trommel zwei chinesische Tempelblocks Metallblocks Holzblocks Maracas Güiro hängende Bambusstäbe drei Metallbleche Shell-Chimes (hängende Muschelschalen) Vibraphon Marimba Röhrenglocken (fünf Spieler) zwei Harfen Klavier, elektrische Orgel E-Gitarre, E-Bass Streicher: zwölf Violinen, acht Bratschen, sechs Violoncelli, vier Kontrabässe

I feel deeply upset 😢😢😢
Who the hell is the conductor
And the orchestra!
@@antoniorodrigues2216 Berlin and Henze himself was apparently conducting so you know you are getting the real deal with this one boys.

awesome. This is a kind of Richard Strauss Second Edition
A beautiful piece, from Henze's best period. Warm, lyrical and where every note counts. I'd love to know what the text is.

Thanks a lot for sharing this!
This goes hard, and I think it really captures the story. My only minor issue is I have no idea where the lyrics would go, but if this wasn't even written with the lyrics in mind then that's really just a moot point.
I can tell you how helpful this is to me - I can't read music but I compose and play the keyboards so if I want to learn orchestration from Stravinsky's music - this is the only way where I can follow when there's music and score synced perfectly. Not a huge fan of the tempi in certain sections but when they get it right - boy! do they sound sweet :)
Molto bella, la regia fu di Visconti vero? Ci sono immagini ?
Fantastic. In my humble opinion, t will always remain the greatest recording of The Ring.
I like the art work.
La signature d’Henze est évidente.
Any family living going on existing is going on and every one can come to be a dead one and there are then not any more living in that family living and that family is not then existing if there are not then any more having come to be living.
Henze was/is the most important german composer after 1945 ! A genius !

“The first performance was scheduled for 9 December 1968 at the Planten un Blomen Hall in Hamburg. Just before it was due to begin, a student hung a large poster of Che Guevara on the rostrum rail, which was torn down by an official from NDR radio. Some students then hoisted the Red Flag and another Che portrait; some anarchists raised the Black Flag. At this point, although Henze and soloists had arrived onstage, the RIAS choir started chanting "Under the Red Flag we sing not" and left the stage. After some scuffles, the police arrived and began removing the students, taking Schnabel with them. Henze reappeared, stating that the police intervention had made a performance impossible, and led part of the audience in a chant of "Ho, Ho, Ho Chi Minh!" before they dispersed, the premiere cancelled” (wiki)
Wonderful symphony, great interpretation.
is this composed for communist propaganda?
Not necessarily; the composer was simply a leftist.

The premiere was given by the Berliner Philharmoniker under Gianluigi Gelmetti in 1984.
Great symphonist and his works cover innumerable genres besides.
Incredible 👍
Camilla Nylund is brilliant in this. Edda Moser set the standard for the role of La Mort and Nylund in my opinion is captivating. I find some passages somewhat rushed, but it's a great recent performance. I agree with the comment here that it should be performed more often, and the only time I can remember it in the UK is possibly at the Barbican with Omar Ibrahim as the narrator in the 1980s.

Some parts really remind me of the "Rite of Spring"
It's the same artist after all, Igor Stravinsky. He really was a brilliant mind.
@@ladgabriel1990 I am aware, thanks. I was just pointing out the similarities. We can all agree he was a brilliant mind !
@@williamshortfilm5818 Not just that - remember he was supposed to be writing Rite of Spring - he got distracted in between and came up with this and used it in some sense to prepare himself better for the Rite of Spring.
Wow. Thank you for posting this. Astounding in every way. Love Wagner's opening of the Ring: the depths and calm of the River roused to witness human/"divine" drama. Solti sure did too.

One the greatest large scale vocal/instrumental works of the second half of the past 20th century! And above all retroactively a Requeim dedicated to all refugees of all nationalities who are trying to escape the horror of whatever war or political conflict which threatens their lives. A real 'document humain' of monumental proportions which should be performed as often as possible in our days!
Agree totally. A great piece, isn't it. Terrifying and effective.
