CATCHING RED FISH IN ONE FOOT OF WATER | FALL COASTAL FISHING
Welcome to another episode of Hobbs Boys Outdoors. It was a gorgeous day, but the fishing was slow in the beginning. Around low tide a lot of the fish pushed into real clear shallow water. I was targeting trout for most of the morning but no success. Didn't manage to get one until right before noon. But overall, another successful trip.

NORTH CAROLINA EARLY FALL CRAPPIE FISHING | CATCH & COOK
Просмотров 8823 месяца назад
The early fall crappie bite has kicked up a notched. I was able to land some pretty healthy size crappie on this trip. The wind would pick up at times, but I still managed to stay on top of them. This is my very first catch and cook. Nothing fancy, just a simple fish fry. Enjoy the video. #northcarolinafallcrappiefishing #crappiefishing #crappiemaxxreel #crappiemaxrod #hukgear #humminbird #lake...

I took a trip to the coast after the storm to do some kayak fishing. The morning started off a little slow but after slack tide the bite turned on. I'm not going to be critical, because nobody ever learned a darn thing by being criticized. You do need a bit of help with your technique though. Your start by sorting out any dead crabs, and chilling the live ones in an ice bath to calm them down. The fresh salted water (the salt is used to melt the ice faster) will also allow them to clear the mud from their gills. While they are chilling, add your liquids to the lower half of the pot, including the beer, no salt or seasoning required yet and leave the lid on to keep it from boiling away. You start with a low flame just to preheat the liquid. That way it is just shy of boiling when you are ready to put the top part of the pot with the crabs onto it. As you add your crabs to the pot, lay them neatly to make a layer, and season that layer. Because they have been chilled in ice, they will stay still. Then just finish the loading a layer at a time. If you are using Old Bay, you don't need to add salt. It has about 30% salt already. Now turn the heat up on your liquids and get it to a rolling boil. put the lid on the top part of the steamer pot, and place it on top of the bottom section. LEAVE THAT LID ALONE! Every time you open it, you lose most of the thermal energy inside that top section. Professional crab houses load huge steel barrels, and they never get rearranged or stirred. The steam goes evenly all over the inside of the pot. That is why your crabs are cooking uneven. If you leave the lid on, they all cook evenly. Set a timer for 20 to 25 minutes. When the timer goes off, take a fast look at the crabs, If they all look bright red with no blue/green/dark areas, they are done. If not, get that lid back on and give them a few more minutes. They don't need to be rearranged or rinsed with beer EVER.. They will turn out just fine. The only thing that will make them take any longer is if they froze because they were in the ice bath a bit too long. The only way to burn them is to let the pot run out of fluids, so be sure to use enough. The juice in the bottom section should be enough to last the whole 25 minutes, but not enough to actually touch the crabs. Test a claw, and if the meat comes out easily, they are ready. Hope this helps, and enjoy. BTW - I learned this as a kid on Hoopers Island, a crabbing community at age 12, and it has worked fine for over 50 years and many hundred bushels of crabs. If your crabs have dark patches on the bottom side, that is NOT from the steam burning them. They get that way when they are full of meat and getting ready to molt their shells. It comes from laying on the bottom of the Bay/River. They are going to be the heaviest crabs for their size. It's a good thing.

Say you right! What's this rotating crabs thang. The only crabs that might over cook is the four on the bottom. You should have bought enough anyway. In my house, the four on the bottom are not spared anyway.
